This is a great interview and it's great to hear Sammy speak so clearly. I am definitely on record as not being a fan of his as far as the type of person he could be at the track but one of the best drivers ever he certainly is. It is interesting to hear him say that all these years it's been "all about him". It takes a lot to admit something like that so I commend him for saying it.  I think you will see him smiling a lot more in the coming years as he spends his time with his wife, son, grandchild, and whoever else he choses to spend his time with. I for one look forward to seeing Sammy smile more. I wish him nothing but happiness moving forward.

Threadkiller I am very proud of you.  Love or hate the man he earned the Respect.  These were very nice words.  I just couldn't imagine the pressure and relying on the racing paycheck for 43 years.  We never totally appreciate what we have until we lose it.  Thanks again for your kind words

I wish Sammy would have announced this at the driver intro before Saturdays A. I bet he would have got a 5 minute standing ovation...

Not his style.  But I agree with you.  I would have loved a goodbye tour, but again not his style.  Low key and on the job 24/7.  That is Sammy.  I for one have always said I could never work for the man.  NO WAY I could keep that work pace up a year much less a few weekends a year.

Many thanks.  Sammy-quality.  I am struggling with his retirement.  It's sad.  But I am so thankful to have enjoyed his magic.  He brought something no one else will ever bring to the track.  Its crazy that I still get great joy looking at pics of his cars after 30 years of gazing.  Thanks again Sammy.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?
