not crucifying, just being realistic.  I'm not sure if it was 4 times as big if section AA would be able to see it very well (HD or not).  It's just a matter of how far away you are from turn #4.

I think a lot of people have the "perception" that $$$ is unlimited and the racetrack can get an HD screen like the ones they have at Dallas Stadium and the like (those cost more than what they plan on spending in TOTAL for all upgrades including a new 4 story building).

Now, as I stated before, their 3 year plan (which the big screen was part of) isn't even supposed to start for another year (they actually had anticipated for the bill going though the statehouse to take 2 years to pass (which would be NEXT YEAR)).

Now, maybe the RJ Johnson crash changed things, but my guess is that Impact may be "sponsoring" the video board, because the fairboard would have to sign off on spending the $$ to put a new one up (and I'm fairly certain that they have not (and most don't see anything wrong with the one that was there).

I know on the picture on facebook of them putting this new one up, someone comments about a tire hitting the other one. Did something hit the old one and break it so they had to make a move? I don't know, I'm just asking based off that persons comment.

RJ Johsone broke and axle and his wheel (and part of hte axle hit the old one (4 weeks ago maybe)).  All but a small section was repaired and working by the next race.

In actuality, it was no worse than it had been for 2-3 years (there was always a small section that didn't work correct when cars were on the track).

For the record, I'm glad they upgraded, but if it's the same size or minimally larger, I think I'd have rather had them wait 2 years if that's what it would have taken to get a bigger one (especially since video boards (much live TV's and computers) are outdated and old technology they day they are purchased, something new is always coming down the pike.

I'm very excited to see this video board Saturday! The only thing I wonder is what are they doing differently to keep this one from getting hit with a car or debris? Maybe nothing and they are not worried. It would be a bummer to get a screen that everyone can see just to have it taken out by one wreck. I'm sure an HD screen is even more expensive to repair if some event like RJ's happened again.
