All teams are allowed to run new tires for the A-main--have to run the same tire in qualifying, heat, and dash ONLY.

Ah - OK ... gotcha.... thought they had to run the same tire all night. Maybe they should keep some NASCAR slicks (made for asphalt - like that track was) around for such an instance. wink

I'm disapointed that the race didn't go the entire 30 laps as scheduled.  However after the effort put forth with lots of water and tilling and reworking, who would have guessed that it would have slicked off and taken rubber like it did.  Obviously the officials and crews were caught by surprise on how fast it changed.  Does Hooser even make a tire compound hard enough to have withstand 30 or more laps under the conditions they faced?  If so, and one of the teams chose to run it, would it be fair to say that they were cheated out of a win?

Exactly what Daryn Pittman told us after the race. They had on the hardest compound, expecting the 30 laps. He wasn't too pleased with the call, but did say he understood, cause very few would have finished. Bummer of a deal on the feature, but still a great night at the racetrack. And a very well run track, I might add, as well as being a really nice facility. Love the Highbanks!!

Never been to a race before without a white flag, tho. Crazy!!

Did Sammy not race last night?

As for Sammy, he ran, but had problems in his heat and the LCQ. Didn't qualify for the Feature, but used a provisional. Started last and pulled off. Burned up a provisional. Musta got it fixed for Sat night at Pevely. Smile

Here is the WHOLE story.....

The track looked beautifully prepared at 4pm when it was decided to "till" the top and bottom and leave it open for nearly 2 hours for the sun and wind (which was a lot) to do it's magic. Hotlaps saw just a little dust kicking up here and there. By qualifying time, eveyone knew what was in store.

Yes, as mentioned above, the heats were great, but only because the track slicked off like a feature would be. So we all knew what was in store later on.

Let me back track just a bit too. 25 cars signed in, one was a 360. Why would you run a 7 car "B" main just to eliminate 1 car from the "A" main? Why not just give the lowest qualifying car $800 and send him on his way? But no, we ran a "B". And you know what? after running a rubberdown "B", with Sammy's last place finish and a provisional in hand, they started 25 cars in the "A" main. A TOTAL waste of time and laps on a handful of maintenance hungry 410 engines.

So after the "B" main and support classes it was very apparent that the track would rubber up through the middle. The bottom was still tacky and the top was dry and dusty with no curb.

So what does the track prep team do? The took the tiller and tilled two lanes at the VERY top of the track ALL the way around. We then watched the water truck turn 10.....Count 'em....10 laps around the top with the water at FULL BORE. It was then ran in and after realizing that they got it WAY too wet, they had to till it again and run it back down to try to dry it out. Meanwhile, they never tounched the middle where the rubber was in the "B".

So after a 1hour 20 cluster "reworking the track", it's time for the "A" main. So guess where everyone is going to race, on the freshly prepared top lanes where it is supper tacky? Or the rubber where it's always faster? Yep, you guessed it! That middle rubbered up like the burnout pit at the Gator Nationals. Well, by lap 23 after severa; tires that popped and many more that were soon to come, on the lap 23 restart, the green was thrown and without a white flag, the checkered flag was thrown the nxt time by on lap 24, 6 laps shy of the advertised distance. The highlight of the night was watching Daryn Pittman swerve down to the edge of the infield to give a single finger salute to the WoO officials.

In addition, they ran 2, 15 lap features for stocks and mods, adding to the dry conditions.  Why not run the sprint feature before them?

As long as fans keep throwing their hard earned money to the track why should they change.
