I just want to argue a few more of these points and then I will let it go….

“WOO and ASCS both pay tow money to their touring regulars , so gas money does make a difference!”-bentaxle

Thank you for making my point, why doesn’t USAC pay tow money!

“SoCal is a tough market.”-Doug Bushey

Why is SoCal a tough market? There is more money, affluence, transportation, media and thrill seeking people here than anywhere in the world! Why should that be a tough market? If you have a great product, you will kill in that kind of market.

“I don't think it is fair to compare CRA with the WoO.”-Buzzard

Buzz Baby, what is a fair comparison? Should I compare them to the PGA? You write “We are comparing high school sports with NFL….”. Thank you for making my point. Time to graduate. You also write “the West coast 360's are the best series running on this coast.” First, if a talented 410 driver shows up and races a 360, he is going to pound (or should pound) that competition. JMO. And where is the logic or economics in pulling your 410 engine, putting in a 360, traveling a greater distance and racing for less prize money. But when they only offer you five races in three months, you are forced to go race for less. And they then expect you to thank them for giving you so many racing opportunities. Sorry, I just don’t get it. You are settling for less, period.

“I know I probably asked this at one time or another, but what is the attraction to 410 CI powered sprints????-sentsat98

Well, why would anyone prefer a weaker engine in a race car? Would you prefer watching a farm team over a pro team. Nothing wrong with 360’s, I have spent many happy years watching them, but I would definitely prefer a 410 race any day. How often can a 360 beat a 410 in a race? I’m not saying never, but rarely. If you are going to build a premier series, you need all the horsepower allowed.

“how about we get some innovation back in the sport and run what ya brung”-turn4rob

Not a bad idea, Rob.

The main point I keep driving at is where is the pride? Non-wing sprint car racing is the most exciting sport I’ve ever seen. No one should settle for inferior purses, too few races, or any long-winded excuse that says you have to accept it. Stand up and demand better. Don’t be “comfortably numb”.

i dont think usca-cra is a filler show , i think its a caluclated move by the pas to show the woo fans how great the non-wing racing is . every time i have gone to the woo show at the pas the crowd is there . if we could pull 10 % of the woo fans back to the monthly usac-cra races at the pas it would make a difference .

GOOD. ,,,, I did not think of it that way !!. ,,,, I just hope that there will be some track surface left for the 410s  ???, . ZZ

Mike...

I fail to see how you come up with a 410 driver being better than a 360 driver. That is just bad math. A talented driver is a talented driver, either way.

The 410 regulars have no more chance of beating the 360 drivers in that series because there are fantastic drivers who arent bigoted over a few cubic inches. Many are running both series and are FORCED to own both engines by the lack of a FULL schedule in either series. If you want to run more than once a month you need a 360 engine.

USAC scheduled it this way. USAC wants it this way. The racers did not want conflicts on the two schedules.

The World of Outlaws is a series with decades of history. It has not fallen apart, it has not reformed, it has not EVER low balled itself out of the spotlight. The World Of Outlaws to me is like the NHRA Monster Trucks. They show up one night a year with super amounts of hype, run their show and move on... the big difference, and what we don't have with the CRA is the locals showing up and filling the field to run against "the best of the best".

CRA has no local competition. Rivals, or series to run against. There are very few 'locals' who can show up and flesh out the field with a travelling show that the CRA should be. We will see what happens up north with this "So-Cal Sprint Week" and how many non CRA cars show for that.

No Mike, I compare CRA with the old California  Super Modifieds. They refused to try and innovate or change, lower costs or market their product. They would'nt adapt to the reality of the time, economy and social changes. Where are they now?

Hey Mike...

I am not disputing your comment that there is "more money, affluence, transportation, media and thrill seeking people" here in California.  But just because those things exist here doesn't mean they are easy to tap into.

You see, all those didn't show up because of the racing here.  Instead, they are here because of the land we have in California and what it has to offer.  We have the beautiful West Coast, with it's Pacific Ocean beaches and shorelines.  We have mountain ranges with gorgeous scenery and an abundance of lakes, rivers, streams, and foiiage.  We have sand dunes and deserts to offer thrillseekers endless opportunities for pleasure.

As a result, we also have Hollywood...which is an attraction for people, transportation, and the almighty dollar.  With the influx of population and wealth came larger malls, bigger theme parks, and enough adrenaline-junkie attactions to keep the thrill seekers happy.

The problem is, Sprint Car Racing has to compete with all of the above.  The inverse is not true, except for the hardcore fans like you and I.  Other areas, such as the Mid-West, don't have that much competition, which is why they can charge $7 a head 5 nights a week and fill the joints.  That is why I made the comment that this is a tough market.

The other comments you made are spot-on and I couldn't agree more!  Smile

Buzz and Bush-

I appreciate your comments, you make excellent counterpoints.
