A Really good idea!  To me, Steve is most closely associated with the green Quaker State car.  That's the one I saw him in the most.

Those Coors Light cars of the 1980's won a TON of races and I was a kid when he and Karl got that sponsorship (and Doty had them on his #18 as well).

I've seen all but (1) of Kinser's Nationals Victories (1980), and a probably 50 or more of the 58 wins he has @ Knoxville (amazing, he's 3rd on the All-time win list behind Lasoski (100) and Wolfgang (60) @ Knoxville and never competed there as a regular ever).  Every win is against WoO or Nationals competition.  Simply amazing....

Since I'm nearly 40 now, the Coors Light and Valvoline cars are the most recognizable cars for me (with Quaker State being a close 3rd), but I loved the white #11 with red #'s that was unsponsored, that thing was bad fast and won a ton of races too.

For me the Quaker State car was the most memorable, simply because it was green.

+1. These were maybe the 2 most dominate eras. Many great stories and nearly unbelievable accomplishmnets in his 35+ years. Would make a great book!

Quick story. While on vacation from Knoxville to Vermont last year we ran up to Quebec to catch the Outlwas at Granby. After the show was over most rigs had loaded up and headed out right after the modified feature was over at the end of the night. 2 guys stayed to meet the fans for about an hour afterwards even though few people speak english there. Steve and Kraig Kinser. Very good guys!

I'm sure if the title was "Kinser retires from WoO" it would be different

Yes, the scoop would have attracted more attention with Steve's name attached to it but I see that it gained some traction during the day.

I find it interesting that there hasn't been any discussion about the wording of the press release.  It says this will be SK's last year following the WoO circuit but doesn't go so far as to say he won't be doing any racing after next season.

If this is indeed Steve's last season I hope that TSR has the opportunity to partner with past sponsors of Steve and make sure the fans from Coast to Coast can see the different iterations of the #11 over the years.

Would love to see throwback paint schemes from time to time including:

Coors Light -- maybe @ Knoxville or Eldora (he won a ton of races at both of those tracks in that car)

Valvoline -- ditto

Quaker State -- WG National Open or Chico

Bass ProShops -- WG National Open or Chico

Bad Boy Buggies -- World Finals

Plain white #11 with red #'s (how cool would that be to see at Hagerstown or Lernerville)

The possibilities on selling T-shirts/collectibles is HUGE - throwback shirts celebrating 35+ years traveling from Coast to Coast and I can foresee really long lines for autographs every night next season.

While it would be cool it will never happen.  Mobil1 and Budweiser are worth more than $25M to Stewart and I don't see them being ok flying competitors colors, even if for a lengends farewell tour.  So you can forget about Coors Light, Valvoline and Quaker State.

On another note, this will be the first and last time I rout for Kinser to win the Nationals.  Well maybe not the last time.  It says he's done with fulltime WoO.  My guess is we may see the 11 racing during the month of money for a few years yet.

My first Outlaw race and memory of Steve Kinser was in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn in OKC in 1981. We had checked in and there he was with Karl and Paul with a little brown 2-door dually with an open trailer with the white #11 onboard. Un-mounted tires stuffed around the car. Wolfgang won that night in the Howells #4, Sammy was 2nd in the Nance 1n and Steve ran a close 3rd. I was instantly hooked and in awe of Steve in that plain white #11. Watching him run the top with his rear bumper mere inches from the guard rail and that deep roar of his Gaerte engine was incredible.

I watched him at Lawton Speedway have mechanical issues with the #11 and he slide into Mark's #51 and came from the rear to a respectable top 3 if my memory is correct. He made it look so easy on that little quarter mile bullring that night.

Steve has always has a commanding presence, and earned the respect of other racers. A true champion, father and husband. We should all feel privledged to have had the oppurtunity to see him race. He is the King for a reason and a great ambassador for dirt track racing.

As with all things, nothing lasts forever. We should all appreciate the fact we witnessed his racing legacy.

Jeff

My fondest memory of the King was a scheduled WOO race in Farley, Iowa back about 10 years ago.  We made the 1.5 hour drive in a terrible storm.  We kept calling the track and they said it was dry there and the races were on.  We got all the way there and started meeting haulers going the opposite direction on highway 20--never a good sign.  We pulled in and sure as hell--races cancelled.  I went into the office to get a refund for our tickets.  I was in there for about 20 minutes and when i came back out the sky was black--bad storm on its way.  Haulers were filing out at a rapid pace.  Out of the corner of my eye I caught a small group of about 10 or 12 people laughing and carrying on with someone on a golf cart--it was the King.  He was in the middle of the parking lot--maybe 20 or 30 cars left--signing autographs and thanking fans for driving over.  From that day forward--fan of the King for life. There are many other drivers I root for but I will never, ever root against the King.

My favorite is when he  drove the '83 Gambler House car with the number #18 on it.  It was October of 1982.

"Piloted by Steve Kinser the first time it rolled off the trailer, the car blew their doors off at Manzy's Western World. "

Don't think the car even had his name on it.
