If you read it again, all he's saying is that it's highly improbable that someone became a fan because of TV exposure.

Thanks Bigfish!   Someone on the board is intelligent enough to read what I'm posting and understand it!   Sideways, go find a brain and come back and maybe we can talk some more...

As for your next level theory...

The start was when Jimmy Clark showed up at Indy with that green car in 63, that's when the next level had a lid put on it forever and no amount of TV or stock car fans will be able to take it off again.

Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

You guys are about twenty years too late. Ted Johnson wanted to take sprint car racing to the next level and got with Pat Patterson and the Slick 50 Winter Series was born. For a time we had; Burger King, Pennzoil, Budwieser, Ecowater, Fridgedaire, STP, Gold Eagle, etc. We already did the live tv thing and then, about five years later, it all but vanished.

From TNN, to Speedvision to SpeedChannel, we had our racing networks and they didn't generate an audience nor sponsors and they came and went. Forrest Lucas has the controls of MAVtv, we shall see where that leads.

Future is now and the future is dirt racing on the internet. Cost too much? If racing truely is in your blood and that is all you want, rid of cable (you can get some other sports on line now days anyway) and support the internet and your dirt racing/sprint car racing.

The "take it to the next level" has come and gone. Our sport has been there, done that and here we are.

The BEST sprint car (and midget) racing on TV was the old ESPN "Thunder" series, hands down.  Some of those shows from Ventura were easily the best racing ever on TV, of any kind.  It is a shame that there isn't any incentive for it.  Instead just hours of insipid shows like NFL draft, cheerleading, etc.

If you get the big dollar sponsors into the sport, it will find a way on TV. It's the chicken and the road syndrome though - one has to come before the other to do so. I truly believe this to be an untapped market. It just takes the right people calling the shots to make it work. If the PBR, NHRA, etc. can get big TV deals, this can too, but you can't alienate your fans to the point of protest by changing too many things. It's tough water to tread - someone may have the vision to do so. That's why guys like Smoke, Kahne and Larson are going to be very valuable going down the road. You get someone with a high-level presence in racing and their legion of fans will follow blindly.

You hit the nail on the head.  This is an untapped Market and sold properly can attract the right companies that the fans can appreciate and will be loyal to.  There is a method to selling this sport one in which I utilize when assisting teams acquire dollars that the WoO and the ASCS have not utilized.  Lucas pretty much owns the ASCS and it was not through anything the ASCS to attract Lucas it was the other way around.  STP's program with the Outlaws is a good step however you still do not see the retail presence that Pennzoil gave the WoO, I do think STP will do some more retail promotions with them and we will see how that attracts the casual fan.  Rodeo in my opinion on TV is like watching paint dry so is bowling yet they have quite the flow of corporate dollars, and butts in the seats all of which make their corporate partners quite pleased.  Live Sprint Car coverage I agree is very tough, the reason I brought up Outdoor was it was week in week out on the same day and time which is a big for fans because it is consistant.

There have been some very good responses to this post and I appreciate those that took the time to post.
