So if Donny S is number 81 he should stay home ?

You're clearly missing the point.

Donny could be the last car of a 200 car field to sign in and he'd still be #1 on the list of favorites to win it. The problem is that there is only one Donny and only a small handful of guys that have a chance of beating him. There's only 30-40 cars that even have much of a shot of making the A.

You need a whole lot of guys that run mid-pack at their weekly shows to tow to Knoxville in order to get 100+ cars.

The less chance they have at taking home some $'s the less chance there is of them spending $'s pulling the car there.

If they think they need 55 cars/night, I highly doubt there will ever be a fully inverted heat race again.

It is not how many cars it is how fast they are

If you are fast you don't care if there are 200

limit the show to 80 that would make a good show right or maybe not

The "show" is already limited to 80 cars.

If you time worse than 40 you missed the show.

Now I get it we should make it so the slow cars can make the show and send the fast ones home because they don't need the money anyway ?

That's why we come to the Nationals to see the slow cars, see I get it

Without all of the "slow" cars the Knoxville Nationals will be just another multi-day WoO show.

I would say half, if not more, of the cars who go to The Nationals realize they have no chance whatsoever. I think they do it just for the "atmosphere" to enjoy all the things which make up the Knoxville Nationals. I will say I am deeply disappointed in their quest to add another car to the race that does not get to the final 24 by running the alphabet. They are starting to water it down like NASCAR....and that is bad in my opinion.

1 month to go and Knoxville has 82 drivers (83 cars) registered. Usually with about 5 scratches and no shows Knoxville needs about 25 more entries to guarantee 50 per night. Here are 25 notable names missing... WoO - Sammy, Pittman, Darrah, Gravel, Saldana, Dollansky, Sweet True Outlaws - 82 (Solwold for now), Hafertepe, Bruce Jr., Knoxville - G. Dollansky, Cali - Allard, Starks, Meyers, Hirst, Ohio/All Stars - J. Haudenschild, S. Haudenschild, Schaffer, Hannagan, Blaney, Holtgraver, G. Wilson Posse - Rahmer IRA - Balog No Ride - Wolfe

Knoxville website now has the Wednesday/Thursday night qualifiers.  Still have 10-15 guys(1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 49, 59, 71) that will be racing, but have yet to register.  I'm thinking most of them will be placed on Thursday night...Wednesday looks pretty stacked in comparision.
