This is standard operation for Swindell fans to feel good about themselves, typical of Swindell fans. Beat Kinser down to prop up Sammy, WEAK!!! Oh by the way, How many titles, wins and Knoxville Nationals does Steve have since 1990, its more than Sammy! So you can go pound sand!

Steve's record in big races dwarfs Sammy's.
It is true that Sammy raced in less WoO races than Steve and there were a couple of years in the early 90s where Sammy probably had the fastest car in the country and would have won the title had he followed the tour, but it's not really a debate who the #1 sprint car driver of all time is. It's clearly Steve Kinser.

I guess the real truth is too painful to acknowlege.
When facts and numbers come in to play you take your ball and go away... have a good day.

the years WOO did not travel many cars,, what year have they ever had more than 17, even those years 6-8 of those cars had tough time making the A whant at a sprint track with quality competition. Pre mid 80s at many of the tracks the WOO ran a 35 car field for a one night chow was considered very pour car count, 50 cars for two day show was average. More guys were building their own cars, wings, motors, today you can buy just about anything the top drivers run, except perhaps sammy and steve both old school still try to do some things in house to give them the edg
e, it will be a sad day when niether of them race the knoxville nats. I have never really been a Sammy fan but respect the hell out of the great driver, mechanic, and engineer he is, still smile every time I see a shiney black TMC truck rolling down the road and think of one of the greates ooking sprint cars ever to hit the track.

I'm going to make this post, but I want to be clear....the following in noway is an example of disrespect towards Steve Kinser.
As noted, Kinser is the King...the record is undisputed, however.....that's like saying AutoZone is the King of autoparts, just because they sell more. Does the quality rival that of NAPA, or some others? Likely not, so while Steve is 'King", Sammy was, is, and always will be, THE MAN. Very few sprint fans -outside Sammy's legion- understand our dedication. We set a higher standard for ourselves. A lot of people can't handle that aspect and just want to argue the numbers. Let's argue the substance; the general car knowledge, the driving ability, the understanding of 'how things work' such as fuel system components, tires, shocks, wings, chassis design, winged vs non wing chassis set up, brake systems, etc...
When you compare the two men on those levels, there is NO COMPARISON. Sammy wins. So, Kinser fans, take your one win on the numbers, and we'll take our numerous wins on all the other facets - which it takes to make an overall better racer.
Let me intrigue you all with a scenario:
You have an unlimited budget to field a WoO team for one year, but....you MUST employee either Steve or Sammy for the entire season. And, whichever you choose has to pull duty as your Driver/Crew chief/chassis set up man/shock package & tire main/engine maintenance guy. The only other team members would be the truck driver, mule operator/car washers, helpers etc.
Now...how many of you guys are gonna call the King?

Just wonder what a Karl Kinser/Sammy team would have done.

The butt hurt is quite comical. Here's all you need to know. 574 WoO wins. 20 WoO season championships. 12 Knoxville Nationals championships. Get back to us when ANYONE gets close to ANY of these numbers.

After they tangle between Mark & Sammy at the Nationals, Sammy told Karl "If we ever teamed up, we'd never lose". That statement complimented Karl (which Karl loved) and insulted Mark & Steve. Never cared for Sammy's style but have alays respected his talent behind the wheel and turning the wrenches. He was never afraid to try something - independent front end, coil overs, etc.

FYI MoOpenwheel...kudos on providing an exemplary way of ignoring my earlier post. None of the "Crown Toters" want to acknowledge Sammy's prevalence over Steve on ANY subject matter. Fact of the matter is Karl played a vital role in making Steve what he is today. The bulk of Sammy's success came without a "Karl" in the background. Not meaning there wasn't a good support group behind Sammy, but he didn't have the liesure of someone like Karl preparing every facet of the car FOR him....Sammy was involved in preparing it all himself.

Jeff Lynne must be one of the favorite recording artists of this group. All songs written, produced and performed by Jeff Lynne. Jeff Lynne: lead vocals, background vocals, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, piano, bass, keyboards, vocoder and cowbell. Hard to believe how much talent some people have. I currently don't have an unlimited budget to field any team. But if I did, we would have fun helping out any number of underfunded teams. Fifty years of sprint car racing was never about a higher standard. It was and is about having fun. And even if it was just for one night, I'd call the King or the Man, THE MAN FROM MIFFLINTOWN.

I don't care how good your crew chief is.
If the guy behind the wheel can't drive...the wins don't come.
Steve's record speaks for itself and no amount of Karl or Gerkin can get a car to the front without the best driver in the seat.
Steve's record over the years proves he is the King.
I don't base this on what he is doing this year. We're talking forty years of this grind.
I'm an Opp fan but when it comes to the king of sprint car racing...there is one..and that is Steve.

concerning all of steves championships, how many came in the day when the competition was not all that great? fewer car counts = more wins for the top echelon drivers
i am curious as to the stats that someone may have say, pre 1990 or so.
anyone have them?
|
The car counts in the 80`s and 90`s were WAAAYYY better than they are now. NARC in northern Cali, non wing at Ascot, Phoenix, huge car counts at Knoxville with plenty of great drivers/teams and of course PA. Steve was still running non-wing shows after the Outlaws went to all wing and just as good or better as anybody. Also, how many Knoxville Nationals has he won and Sambo still has the 1.

per www.knoxvilleraceway.com/HistoricEvent.aspx?id=20
Car Count
1961…59 1962…75 1963…78 1964…87 1965…102 1966…97 1967…92 1968…77 1969…77 1970…105 1971…96 1972…109 1973…98 1974…95 1975…113 1976…90 1977…124 1978…129 1979…108 1980…90 1981…86 1982…92 1983…106 1984…104 1985…101 1986…104 1987…126 1988…111 1989…125 1990…134 1991…166 1992…158 1993…149 1994…132 1995…145 1996…153 1997…154 1998…140 1999…130 2000…128 2001…126 2002…116 2003…114 2004…119 2005…118 2006…128 2007…105 2008…110 2009…107 2010…100 2011…99
I'll give you the car counts at the nationals in the 90's were extremely good, but the car counts of the 2000's to today are actually BETTER than the 1980's (1045 from 1980-1989) - 2000's (1171 from 2000-2009) car counts in 2010-2012 are better than first 3 years in the 1980's as well.
I would argue that the QUALITY of the field in the 2000's to present is WAYYYY better than it was in the 1980's and early 1990's.

What were the car counts for a WoO Wednesday night show in 1987? You can pull Knox Nats car counts to reconcile the "Great Car Count Debate".
