He has more class than to respond to you idiots .

Yes. Nothing is classier than an OWI. Flaunting your willingness to violate the conditions of your sentencing is punk move. I appreciate Kevin's work, lifestyle, perspective, and willingness to quote Steve Earle, but Kevin is not a victim here. How he travels through this world is up to him, how he travels public roadways is not. I admit to be disappointed in him, he reports on racing with a clarity and honesty few possess. Clearly he has a different filter when it comes to introspection.

Exactly how old does a person have to be before other persons stop asking him to grow up? I’ve always done whatever I want. I like beer. I like weed. Living on the lamb is the consequence. No, it doesn’t make sense to blog about skipping probation. Pardon me while I do it anyway. Knoxville has tried to run me off for 20 years now. They finally succeeded. I have NEVER been drunk enough to “have an accident and kill some innocent people.” That is complete and utter horseshit. I am a sinner in no need of salvation. F your Jesus. He’s nothing but a carpenter to me. There are a lot more people with my sprint car knowledge? Funny, I haven’t met any in 30 years. I’ve always felt a spiritual connection to California and will “Stan Donnit” as long as I please. Soon to be sharing a beer and a bowl with Henry Chinaski All Hopped Up, Eckert

some of you are just judgemental jackasses. The dude went and served time and marion county is basically trying to nail him down to one spot.....that's not going to work on that guy lol. I get the situation and think it's screwed up on their part. He went and served a month, just have the guy pay his fines and leave him the f*ck alone. If you think he is bound more than that - you're either a dumbass or never been in, nor known anyone in, the legal system. I know of people in my county (Canadian County OK) that have had several DUI's in just a few years and they didn't serve time. But more importantly, serving time was considered the worst case scenario for the accused - so for those who went that route, served the time, paid the fines - they didn't go so hard on probations, piss tests, fines and the like. Very few people man up to serve the time. This guy did. What the hell further debt does/should he really owe to marion county iowa? I won't judge his choice because I KNOW I really don't have that right. Or better yet, maybe I do and just like them (minus the drinking and driving). I had three marijuana arrests in 4 years and had to serve county time twice - the writeup he did of his month in jail is the most vivid and accurate account of a county jail term as you will ever find - ANYWHERE. It was almost exactly like mine were on all accounts, right down to how you were made to feel while in there. Yeah stupid me for playing Cheech for a few more years than I should, just like Eck would, and often has, criticized himself for wetting his beak and getting behind the wheel. Bad decisions = prices to pay. What is BS is that dude paid his - and if he honored his fines and was willing to see a probie in Indy - what the hell??? But by the time they flipped scripts on him he had enough and said f*ck em. Can't help but admire that a little (ok maybe a lot lol). He doesn't have things to tie him down - so why not make the statement you truly believe in? Yeah I admire it and all the assholes of hoseheads putting him down won't change that. The guy has more real integrity than anyone I've met.....and he leans just as far left as I do and likes his race cars to do the same lol. Combine that with a knowledge of this sport, past and present, that no one else has and an ability to share it that is without equal and in a league of its' own...... Only natural that I am a shameless fan. For Chinaski, BRR, Stan M, and those who aren't judging him personally - good for you guys. Many putting him down are the usual jackasses anyway. This sport has never had writing of this caliber, and it never will again once he's done/gone. Enjoy it while you can. His writing is bound to no one, that's what makes it far more superior to anything else that anyone does. Count me among the :::insert insult of choice::: that would offer the dude a comfortable bed, a few Yuengling's, and the best fried onion burgers around (about the only thing el reno, oklahoma actually has) if he ever stops off on the west side of Oklahoma City. I'm a huge fan. Not sure I can cover the smoke, but.....everyone always knows someone who can lol. Even modified from its' original form - Eck's response is classic lol. Btw - "I suck limes like Marion County can suck on my indifference" is possibly one of the best quotes ever. I like filtalr enough to go back through this so he might not have to lol.

I for one can't wait for his next blog of wisdom when the Outlaws leave and I'm sure it'll go something like this...

"At a point in the evening, you won't get any higher, just lower on dope...Pass the pringles Henry."

I truly wonder how many of the naysayers of Mr. Eckert have ever spent any time with the man. Forget his philosophies or specific thoughts on subjects, spend time with him and walk away smarter and with a grin, I know you will, I saw it happen many times.

You want reality, no matter the perspective, you want the truth as seen before an honest man's eyes, you want answers to questions you really don't want, say Hello to Kevin Eckert. Hell, I may miss him as much as I do sprint car racing and I never did get to spend that much time with him, but it was all memorable......

Kevin,

Your statement of "I have NEVER been drunk enough to "have and accident and kill some innocent people" " is the one that gets me the most and makes me lose respect for you.

I have NEVER met anyone that has had an accident that hurt or killed people that didn't state the same exact thing.

The bottom line is that the law in Iowa is .08 BAC. If you were above it (no matter how you "feel", you broke the law and dodged a bullet of killing someone else (or yourself) on the roadway.

I wish I could say I will miss you when Nationals rolls around if you choose to stay away, a part of me will be happy knowing that at least one arrogant drunk won't be on the road endangering other people's lives becuase "he doesn't feel drunk enough to have an accident".

California (or PA) can keep you, I'll take 15-16 year old kids without any driving experience every day of week over someone that intentionally gets behind the wheel of a car under the infuence (of alcohol or drugs). Time to grow up (or grow a pair), and realize that if you're going to drink, you need to have a DD or call a cab (if you can afford the booze, you can afford a cab ride).

Living on the lam? That is certainly a romanticized version of walking away from the terms of your sentencing. How many OWI's does this make? 3,4,5? Yeah, Knoxville and Marion County are the problem.

Dang, pretty rough crowd. You gotta love the kind of people that get to throw the first stone having NEVER been guilty of any type of driving impairment, hmmmm.

Not sure of all the details, mainly because it's none of my damn business but wasn't Kevin arrested because he had maryjane in his system? While I can say that I've never been guilty of that I daresay many others and possibly some in this forum, can not. Let's not get all too righteous here folks, although it does appear we had quite a few candidates for Popedom right here on Hoseheads, could have saved those silly people in Italy a lot of time.....

I never said I was a saint (and don't recall anyone else on this thread proclaiming to be either , but I grew up and realized how DUMB it was to do those things as I could ruin my life and others lives.

When I choose to drink, I don't drive, not in the parking lot, not across town, and not on the highway.

It's common sense, once you hit a certain age in life (generally in your mid-20's), you realize that everything is not all about you and you think of the consequences of your actions. Obviously Kevin has not (and may never) reach that point in his life.

I know people that have lost thier license due to driving while impaired. 99% of them figured it out after the first time they got caught that they needed to grow up and take responsiblity for their actions (if they drink, they now have a DD or a call a cab).

Well said MSPN. I don't know the guy or the situation. I just hope no one gets hurt falling off their high horse.

I spent a couple minutes with SprintCarStats in the pits at Stockton the other night. He looked fairly sober/stable to me! I spent half my life on the Calif Hwy Patrol and don't make any allowance for driving impaired. Kevin didn't say he does it every day . . . . hopefully he'll think about things a little differently after this experience.

He has lived a life around racing that many of us would envy. He has not always made the wisest decisions but we are all sinners in our own way. Someone else has already made reference to, "throwing the first stone."

I have always appreciated what he does that has made him known to all of us in the first place, and would be very sorry to see it all go away.

Kevin, the main thing you said that really disappoints me is using the F when speaking in regards to our Savior. Whether you realize it or not, He knows you by name and loves you and holds great expectations for you. There will be a day somewhere in the eternities that you will have the opportunity to stand before Him and get to try convincing him He is ONLY a carpenter.

Hopefully you will someday come to that realization.

Until then, keep up the blog we all look forward to!

I don't know circumstances of arrest, but drinking & driving is stupid, irresponsible & dangerous... but was he really driving drunk? Some people can be over limit & drive OK, others are a menace on one drink. Obviously there has to be a standard & we need to obey it.

That said, after serving a month in the slammer, making him STAY IN IOWA for a year is absurd.

THC in system? It stays there a month, meaningless...

My suggestion, wanted or not, is give up the booze & stay with the ganja (Legal here in Co.). Made that decision about 30 yrs. ago. Drove drunk many times myself in my reckless youth,, its a miracle I never got busted, killed myself or worse an INNOCENT PERSON. Drunks drive off the road & kill family of 4.Stoners miss their exit

Jesus comment was a real shocker. Another reason to be thankful we don't live in a theocratic state, be it Islamic, Jewish, OR Christian. I think that might have gotten him burned at the stake in colonial Massachusetts.....
