If you ask a driver to sign something before the races are done, you deserve to get stiffed. If you ask politely after the races are done and don't barge into their trailer or interrupt when they are talking to someone else, they should have the courtesy to sign an autograph. My 9 year old son has a binder full of autograph cards and most drivers were very polite and professional when they signed for him. I had a chance to get Sammy's autograph after a local 360 show when he was running the 10 car a few years ago. My son didn't go with me that night, but I wanted to get Sammy's autograph for him. I've never been a fan but I respect the man's accomplishments and he did win the feature that night. I waited for a few minutes while others got autographs. When it was my turn, I made a joke about the kid in front of me who asked Sammy to sign a body part. Sammy laughed, I congratulated him on his win, he said thanks, and I thanked him for coming to race and he thanked me for coming to watch.

Why does a driver, pro athlete, or celebrity owe anyone an autograph ? Dont know the percentage but many end up for sale.

Didn't give an autograph?..... Boohoo
Did he risk his life for your entertainment? Wasn't that enough?

Actually, the 10 people on this board that always defend Sammy regardless of what he does have once again come to his rescue. However, this time they have started a new tactic. Instead of defending Sammy, they attack the original poster for wanting an autograph.
While I have never collected autograph's a lot of people do. There is nothing wrong with it. It allows some people to feel connected to the drivers. It allows other people to have a "racing collection" since they can not afford a race team. As some as stated, it is something that they do with thier children and grandchildren. For others, it is a way to reconnect with the childhood memories. Attacking a person for wanted an autograph is petty and mean.
Of course, I would expect nothing else from the Sammy faithful.

LOL, as spoken by one of the guys that attacks every chance they can. Is this the kettle calling the pot black? There were a lot of people posting about when is the best time to obtain an autograph and try and help the lost soul. I found these comments constructive and informing and hopefully to be used in the future, this is wrong? Here's a kleenex, move on.....

Or maybe it was the idea that people have seen enough of these threads started where someone didn't sign something for their kid or didn't smile at them or didn't say what they thought they should have in their after race speech. This whole deal was hashed out in the Donny didn't sign my kids stuff post a couple months ago and I think thats why this one didn't get as much "Oh he's a Monster for not signing that" posts. Next week will it be that Craig Dollansky didn't sign something for someone? In the end the person who starts a post like this is trying to get people to say bad things about the person its about or why would they have started the post, this one didn't really get the hoped for reaction of the original poster.
Also I don't hate Sammy - I don't love Sammy. I like a good race and will likely cheer for whoever the winner is so don't try to smear that this is just an excuse from a Sammy lover.

I have never asked any WoO driver for an autograph, ever, but enjoy talking with various ones, however,as much as I don't like some of Sammys behavior,I can tell you right now he is one of the best wrenches in the pits,I've just went to the pits to watch what he does to his car as compared to the other "hot dogs" that show up,its not always what he does to the car,its when he does it,while he figures he has to beat, such and such car or cars ,he does his work when they are on the track and even such and suchs crew is not paying attention, and being last to put on the right stagger after they have went out, many times hes been close to the last car out,but its all in his strategy and he has been doing this a long, long, time,he is one smart cookie.

Kinser has way more wins and is a much nicer guy than Sammy. I guess thats part of the reason Sammy never seems happy, been second best all his life lol. In sprint cars.

For what its worth, Sammy was really nice to my kids after the race, my 8 year old asked him to sign his shirt, he did, and thanked my son for coming to by see him.

Seriously guys? I am by no means a Sammy fan, but there are very few drivers out there that I "respect" more than him when it comes to driving and working on racecars. I have always heard that he isn't a personable person but I try not to pass judgement since I have never met or talked to him OUTSIDE of the racetrack. As a kid Sammy was always kind to me but I NEVER bothered him when he was working. I do get tired of the Swindell's bitching all the time and passing blame, but I admire his desire to win after all these years.
You'll better sit back and enjoy it now because we're living in the glory years. It saddens me to think about how boring the sport will be after Steve and Sammy retire.

Insert any other name while busy doing their job. See if that works for you ? If not I will see if I can borrow my daughter's crayolas.
