That was my point exactly Carol. RPM and Devils Bowl both had 5 inches of rain from Monday night into Tuesday night. Then it rained again Thursday too. I'm sure people can and will blame Lanny for a bunch of things, but he doesn't create the weather last time I checked.

I have been to the Devil Bowl shows where you had to have a tractor get the tow rigs in and out of the pits. Lanny always tries to get the shows in. As someone else posted, the Bowl is on a "limited" schedule this year. This is one of their big money making weekends.
Finally, it amazes me that people always get on here and complain about promoters versus ticket takers. The theory is that we need more promoters. However, Lanny is getting killed for being a promoter instead of a ticket taker. A promoter knows that they need to build a buzz for a race. A promoter knows that people have options with the entertainment dollar. A promoter knows that people will travel for a big weekend show when they can plan for it. However, by postponing it a weekend, you kill the buzz. Most of all of the travelers are lost, and you are fighting to get all of the casual fans back. Devil's Bowl front gate is huge. They need much more than the die hard fans to fill the stands, and by postponing the race by a week the die hard fans is all that they would have had.

Those of you that know Lannie Edwards would know he does not
cancel shows easily. He is a die hard
race promoter. Also if you know anything
about Devil’s Bowl speedway, the track was not the issue for a Friday night
race.It is the pits. Getting big haulers
in and out of the upper pits in the mud is almost impossible.I have seen them bring in loaders to pull out
haulers.
I have been on the phone off and on all week checking on the
status of the pits. They were actually
using a roller to try to get it in shape for tonights show.
Anyone that complains about a shows cancelation should put
up the bucks to promote one to see how fast you can lose your ass.The promoter is the ultimate gambler. So many things have to come together just right
to pull off a profitable show.

Interesting thread.
I saw the line about "standing water in the infield" and thought... so? Pit on the FLAT, CLAY upper pits. Had to say DOH to myself on that bad idea (5" of rain will do that to someone).
The biggest complaint about a man I truly admire is that I never agreed with the concept to pay the purse through the pit gate with so many support classes. The older I get... the more it makes sense. Let the promoter hedge his bet on the lackluster fan turnout with some support classes that belong on a 1/4 mile... no problem. I'll go get some pretty good race track food and stretch my legs. If it makes the promoter book a show that he otherwise might not have... cool.
I like the idea of "put your money where your mouth is" more & more on this message board. Lots of folks criticize promoters for all the goofy things they do and don't begin to have a clue on how much $$$ is on the line for the promoter. Have promoters cost fans money on unnecessary travel expenses? Yup. Are promoters perfect? Nope.
Next you have someone that worked on a car, owned a car, sponsored a car once or drove a car and THEY know absolutely what a promoter should do. Well... step up to the plate and take your swing at it, big boy! It sure looks a lot easier when your name isn't on all the checks going out.
No one holds anyone hostage and forces them to go to races, to race a car, to sponsor a car, etc. ASCS doesn't pay enough? No kidding? Don't like it... DON'T RACE. Go buy a bass boat, go fishing and shut up about it already. Racing doesn't make sense. It never has and it never will. I've posted on message boards for 12 years about cutting costs but it just seems like no one wants to. They want 53' trailers (because your car is slow if you don't have one apparently)... they want ridiculous chromed pit equipment and gargantuan Mules that cost more than my truck with all the add-ons. Racing is all about entertainment... it isn't a common sense, logical thing to do. It benefits a small scale of people financially and some more than others.
Trying to make sense of racing... talk about crazy!
