Okay-

The original Layne/Mcdaniels car was sold in 1969 to a Jim Cox in Frontenac, KS.

Here is the first version of it

Topeka Fairgrounds maybe??

As stated earlier that is the Topeka Fairgrounds. This is looking to the southwest towards the number two corner. The building that can be seen over the wall is the old building for Meyers Yearbook now known as Jostens. This looks like it is an early sixties photo. The car in the lower left looks like either the number 12 Chevy of Bill Cohee or the number 4 Pontiac of Bill Corwin. The old narrowed pickup body that was run in the late fifties and eary sixties. Both changed body styles in either 1962 or 1963. The car over the injector stacks looks to be the number 11 car built by Jerry Hayes and owned by Marvin Shields that would later become the number 25. It ran no later than 1965 before moving somewhere back east.

Okay so I have been accused of just looking at the pictures and not reading the articles, LOL.

Look at the two guys at the left side of the photo. Do they resemble anyone ? The guy in the white is still alive but the second from the left has passed if is who I think it is. I will let someone else figure out who he is. The photo has to be 1962. I do not think it is 1964 for several reasons. GOOD LUCK

Isn't that the black and red #37 car, 2nd row inside? Could that Be Tiger Bob Williams of Missouri?

Jack Belk drove the 37 in 1969. He won the Muskogee championship and finished 6th in the Tulsa standings I think he might have won this race. After 1969 he never drove this car again. He drove the ex Nance house car that was renumbered to 88 in the supers and he keep driving the sprints and was killed in one in 1971 in Topeka

Does anybody else regognize any of the cars here?

Outside of the Pink Zink flip top, could that be Joe Cox's #33 with Emmett Hahn the driver?

Okay, so now we have another offset car that took over for the Layne/Mcdaniels team in 1969.

Here, the new 1969 offset car has won the pole for a 50 lapper at Muskogee. The Zink offset is on the 3rd back.

I think that pokieokie is right about Emmett on the out side of the Pink Zink. The hood looks like the Cox car. The car behind the 77 looks like the car that Al Lemons drove after Junior's Duvall's Death. I found the the results of this race in my NCRA yearbook and they were: 1 Jack Belk 2Al Lemons 3Buddy Cagle 4Emmett Hahn 5Dale Mc daniels, Chick Shaddox set the fast time

Boy, these were what they call the "Good Old Days" just look at the packed grandstand and the line up of the cars goes back it looks like to the forth turn. I'm glad I got to see these best of times. We will never see that type of racing again including the cars, drivers, owners, pit crews and even promoters.

I just wonder who is driving the 77. This is about the time that the Boomershines had got into racing, like I said earlier it might be Stanly Durrett but I am not sure. They used a lot of drivers then, the driver is not skiney enough to be Mike Jimmerson mabee Al Lemons drove for them that day. He did not have aregular ride that year and I am not sure theis him in the car behind the 77. Mabe one of the Lemon boys will read this andlet us know what car he finished 2nd in

If your talking about pic with Layne's 81 at Topeka ,it's not 1962 because that car was built winter of 64 first ran spring 65.

Great picture, I am trying to figure out who is who. The car behind Dale McDanieel is Jack Belk and his car 37. I think that Jack won this race. Is that right Tim? the 77 on the outside pole is the Boommershine car, Stanley Durret might be in it.Other than the Pink Zink I do not recognize any other cars Surly there is some body out there that knows who some of these cars are.

Ray

Yes Ray that is Jack Belk in the #37 he won that race.1969 Muskogge Nationals,i have another shot of this but from another angle that show more of the field ..This is a great pic because it shows a good shot of my Dad in the #37,i would like a copy of it if possible...Great pic send me a copy.I cant get to my stuff for a while because of the Tornado in Joplin it was all i could do to get my stuff to a safe place.I am glad to say it was untouched but took a hell of a ride.

The first four rows are

1st row #81 McDaniels------#77 Durrett ( I Think)i would have to check records to be sure, ther were ohers that drove that car

2nd row #37 Belk--------------#51 Al Lemmons

3rd row #52 Cagle------------#33 Hahn

4th row,,,#97 Bob Ballard-------#07 Jackie Howerton,,Jackie built that car i believe , you can see the 07 on the door if you look close.

I cant see any more from this angle,,i got the whole line up at home, # 55 Frankie Lies was there but broke something in his rear end and didnt start the A main,I remember everybody was expecting a great race between Belk and Lies

Pete York is in mid pack also, this was the Race that Pete York and Jack Belk had a Fist fight in the infield after the race ended. ..Belk was leading lapping York,, York just got the lap flag and he tired to cut Belk off going into turn 1, and he went flipping in the middle of 1 and 2..York came and jumped Belk from the behind in the infield after the race.,,York got Belk in a head lock Belk got lose and fist were flying...All i can say is York was bloodyer than Belk was. And York didnt want no more..He was Drunk. It was another good day at the Race Track.

Also specail thanks to Ray Crawford who was there ,,he loaned Belk a Right Front tire that helped him go on and win..

Brian the next year 1970 at Muskogge Bob Williams did drive #37 at the Nationals there that year,,, Belk was in the #88 and finished 6th.Williams was runing 7th and droped out of the race,,One of the few time Als Weiland cars did not finish because of mechical trouble..Al was giving my Dad hell after the race ,,Al said that car broke because it just could not pass you. Many people think that my dad and Al split with bad fealings..I am hear to say they were the best of friends.

Tim Belk

Win as if you are use to it.And lose as if you enjoyed
it for a change. Its hard to get to the top and alot
harder to stay there.

From Mike Pogue-

updates on the Dale McDaniels sedan version. Don't worry about the sedan body being split up, I've just seen quite a few in Arkansas! Still a bunch around.
