Generaly speaking, I prefer 1/3, 3/8th, even 1/4 as small as it is but I've seen some great races on high banked and not-so-banked 1/2 miles, usually in feature races though. Heat races need a decent car count so you have 10 or more per heat.
Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

I love the short tracks and I was raised watching them at Farmington. I've been to all kinds and if they don't take rubber and follow the leader they all can be good. Lazy promotors not working on a track with rubber is the big problem on any track.

I feel after a steady diet of one vs. the other .... the 'other' appears different and exciting.
So if you are a weekly watcher of short tracks and you get to see a big track once in a while it seems twice as fast as maybe it is and you think 'jeezus ... if this slider goes awry (see film of Wimmer's attempted slider on Kenemah a couple of Nats ago) this is gonna hurt.'
If you are a Knoxville weekly watcher and you go to a place like Chico where it is non stop action with the leaders in traffic in every corner and every straightaway you think 'wow ..... I don't even know where to look ...action everywhere.'
As my late uncle was quoted (just before his enraged widow shot him in thru the heart) 'I'm really sorry honey ...... but variety ........ is the spice of life.'

I'll take the mid-sized tracks personally. 1/3 to 3/8 is best for me.
Cedar Lake Speedway is my favorite also. Charter Raceway can be good too. Both places are smaller, but are super fast. Cedar Lake I believe is a 3/8, and the track record for winged sprints is in the high 10 second range with an average speed of something like 124mph!
"They'll learn."

Knoxville is my home track and always thought in the past that it was the only racetrack worth watching. In recent years I've attended more short tracks and I have learned that although speeds are slower, the side by side action as triple of that on the big tracks.
If it takes perhaps 6 or 7 laps to get your average caution, then the leader on a big track hasn't even gotten NEAR the backmarkers yet. However, on a short track, the leader after 6-7 laps has already had to fight with 2 other drivers for the lead, plus get around a couple lapped cars as well!
Tracks I've seen in 2010: Knoxville(8 shows), Volusia(4), East Bay, Ocala(2), Lawrenceburg IN, Port Royal, Williams Grove, Selinsgrove, Lincoln Pa, Fulton Ny, Weedsport, Rolling Wheels, Brewerton Ny, Utica/Rome Ny, plus some pavement. Best shows were the shorter ones. Thank God I have a job that requires travel.
Oh, and Slideways Karting Center twice.
I'll never be able to repeat a year like this one.
Bye bye, Hardhat!

This really helpful for a newcomer like myself. So far I've only been to 2 sprint races, Clinton County & Williams Grove National Open. Of course, had to prefer the better talent of the Open.
However, after seeing the video someone put up of "The Kokomo Klash", the cut throat back & forth competition was awesome, think I might check out some non-wing & smaller tracks next summer.

Shorter tracks no ? There. Usually the racing at places like k-ville sucks certainly the weekly shows the cars get to strung out and maybe you get to see a slider at 140 mph but I would much rather see 10 sliders at 120 mph

Boy, those fences in the corners at Selinsgrove aren't very tall. At the speeds they're going where do they end up when they go over them?
Also, non-wing any size track. Prefer winged cars on bullrings.
