I'm not familiar with the SKR option. I see it as a choice on the build sheets but no description or explanation. Is the seat moved towards the rear of the car at all? Being 6' 5" I would think his knees would be smashed against the steering box? I know they offer the Big Boy option. Is this part of what you have?

The SKR options are the bar in the bottom of the car that the torque tube safety hoop is on is farther forward in the car and the car has 2 jake ladder mounts, and 2 sets of top wing mounts.

We bought this car from Big Game Tree stands, it was one of T-Macs cars. there are several drivers around that use a tall cage car just for the xtra head room. I would stay with a well known chassis. Go to the track and start asking around and you will probably find what you are looking for.

our car is not the big boy car. we use a KSE Gen 2 steering gear. this opens up the right side of the cockpit and he has about an inch between his knee and the gear on the left side.

I'm 6'2" 260 lbs. I had a big boy Maxim(7 years ago, don't race anymore) but I didn't like it @ first. My biggest problem was that I have long legs and big feet. I had to have all the seat bars moved back to get my legs and feet positioned where they could actually function and be able to have good throttle control. Once that was done I felt 75 % more comfortable in the car.

Another person you might like to contact is Chad Kemenah. Get as much as info as you can from the bigger people who wheel these things before you decide anything. Good luck!

I am not that tall, but have an extremely tall upper body...when sitting down I am even with someone 6'4" - 6'5".

Buying a new/tall/big chassis wasn't in the cards for me financially, so I had some alterations done on a std. car. Seat bar moved down/lower, and also had a 4" halo added to the top. My knees are pretty close, but it gets the job done. I have no concerns with sitting a bit higher with the halo, and using a containment seat. Tony Beaber did the work, and did a great job. I may sell this car, and quite reasonably. I also have an 04 J&J frame/body with the same work done I'd sell.

Jack Dover is almost 6'5". He has always ran Eagle chassis, and had plenty of head room. Eagle Chassis customs builds Jack chassis. He is currently in the 2011 model and LOVES IT.

Jack also drives for Gary Swenson, Schnee chassis also custom built a chassis to fit Jack as well.

Im sure almost any chassis builder will build what you want, or try buying used from a tall guy.

Some tall guys

Jack Dover

Zack Chappel

Eric Baldacinni

Dave and Dale Blaney

I went and watched the ASCS and WOW at Central Missouri Speedway tonight. It was a great show. The rain held off just long enough to get the show in. Brian Brown held off a late charging Jack Dover to win it. I went down after the race and spoke with Jacks dad. I sat in Jacks car and fit in it very well. Enough room for my knees and about 4 inches of clearance for my head. He said he liked the new car so much they already ordered another one. They were very nice people and I appreciated the input. Thanks

Fasster23,

Did Jack's Dad tell you what was "custom" on his car? Tall cage, big boy, lower seat bar?? What is different about his car?

I believe it was just a tall cage car. The rear portion of the halo was raised. He said that they had to move the A-frame on other cars but I don't think they had to change anything for his new car. The new Eagles if I remember correctly allowed enough room that it wasn't necessary to move anything else. I felt very comfortable in it. I had room for my hand to fit in between my knees and the braces on the steering gear. I didn't get a chance to speak with Jack in the pits. He was busy and a LARGE storm came in right after the races just as we made it to the car. I spoke with his father for a bit. Nice people.

Great topic!

Seeking out advice from Dale Blaney is a great idea. If you have the opportunity to talk to him, please share the results of your conversation.

The "tall cage" means the halo is taller. In some cases the entire halo is taller and in some cases only the rear portion of the cage is raised. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think all new Maxims feature a 2 inch taller halo (the rear portion).

The "big boy" option means that the A frame that the seat bolts to is moved from the frame rails to the rear cross-member. This option would give your knees more clearance. There is also a "big boy V", meaning the cross-members inside the A are V shaped, allowing you to push the seat back even further.

You can also change the position and shape of the lower seat bar, but I agree, you may create a clearance issue between the bottom of the seat and the torque tube.

Perhaps some other "tall" drivers would be willing to comment.

Please let us know if you have the chance to discuss with Dale. You could also call Maxim and simply ask which tall/big boy options Dale uses on his car. I'm curious about the seat bar too!

I sent an email to Dale Blaney asking advice on what chassis mods he has to accommodate his tall frame. He actually called me last night. He said he currently runs a Maxim tall cage and moves the A-frame back about 2" and says that works fine for him. He was a very nice guy. He talked like we already knew each other. I have been around racing for years but I have not experienced the willingness to help and the all around friendly atmosphere like I have found in the Sprint Car community. It is very refreshing and I wanted to say thanks to everyone for the help and advice.

What a great story! The fact that Dale took the time to call and converse says a TON about how much class the Blaney's have and show to one and all....
