Good points, Grove. I couldn't agree more. Too bad money is so tight right now, because with the crap Nascar puts on, its prime time for some competition from the Dirt Racers ! I cannot figure how the networks (Speed, ESPN and the likes) think there is not enough interest in the dirt races. Even Dave Despain gets lots of activity on his show when he has a WoO person on his show. Every bit as much as F1 or Indy guests. Now how do we get the point across to the networks? Who can we talk (pronounced B-with an itch) to? Between Versus, Outdoor Channel, Espn(s) and Speed, there should be room for programming as was mentioned above. With the number of independent film guys out there, they wouldn't have to do the "mega-production" as was the case in the past. Good stuff. Maybe some day.................................

Well, while we can all dream, the fact is that we'll never see more than highlights of any dirt racing on TV because the networks that used to broadcast dirt track racing have found that they'll get more eyes on shows like "Pinks" or "Pass Time" than sprint car racing. The sponsors buy time because of the # of folks watching.
Sprint car racing is a niche sport;while there may be hundreds of tracks running sprint cars, most of those tracks are attracting 2-3K fans. If you do the math(200 tracks X 3000 people); that's a total of 600000 folks watching sprint cars. Most media buyers won't turn their heads for those low numbers....

All it takes is money! It is something like $30,000 to put on a weekly show. Each week! It was my
ambition for years to have a weekly sprint car TV show. I shot west coast races every week for 20
years, at a different track every week, from Feb to Nov. I have a van with over 500,000 miles on it.
Dean Mills, who is THE BEST open wheel dirt track shooter, was a 16 year old kid when I met him.
Dean gets all over the country now and his stuff is on speed report. We both used to weekly have
stuff on Speedweek, Raceday, On Pit Road, and RPM 2night. Jeff Converse and Jeff Kristianson
also both do great work. We've all worked together for a long time. If we could get together we
could have a show that the network people would never be able to match. . . . . the only problem$
have been the co$t of broadca$ting it. If you have the sponsorship, they will show it! Any ideas?

We have all had this dream in our heads for years. A 1/2 hour show highlighting nothing but open wheel races. For footage you have me in the southern west coast, Grove up north (if he comes out of retirement), Dean wandering all over the country with USAC, Kris Krone shooting at Knoxville, Jeff C chasing ASCS and anything else along the way, Steve Gigious shooting in central PA, D.O. shooting Indiana, might even get Greg Stephens back at the dirt tracks, the list goes on. There is plenty of quality footage shot each week to put together a fantastic show. For talent we have Sean Buckley, Dave Argabright and a host of others. Why has it never been done? Simple, not enough eye balls watching to make it worth while. Not for TV anyway. Why not do it on the Internet? Sponsorship can still be obtained and the production costs would be 1/10 of TV. Its the wave of the future. I believe TV and Internet will be one in the same in another 10 years, or less. Lets get it started!

During my decade or so of touring the country and setting up and selling photos at sprint shows, many of them W of O's, I was always surprised that my NASCAR sales were as good as and often better than my sprint stuff. The hard core bought sprints but the average fan but more Dale, Jeff and Tony stuff on a regular basis, including the Nationals and Chili Bowl with a combined 20+ years at those two venues alone. I seriously doubt NASCAR can keep this up with milk-toast guys like Jimmy Johnson being the champ on a regular basis but their hard core fans are in such large numbers it may not matter. Take It Easy....

Our politics shows the typical new American can't see past the pimple on their eye lid so the nonsense called NASCAR will continue to be successfull...a completely new fan base than 25 years ago but still profitable.
Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?
