let us remember where hockett comes from. he runs all over the country where when a car gets upside down an immediate red comes out for safety reasons, obviously. if you drive past an accident, they are likely to send you home right then and there. i couldn't tell if matt stopped because he saw hockett do it or if he simply got slowed down too much. in any case, the two show makers were sent to the back. i gotta admit, the show lacked excitement after that. about half of the people left right then saying some pretty brutal words. i can't see how time was a factor since the main got over at 9:30.
it's sad to see politics govern racing the way it does these days. ventura is not the only track guilty of packing the pits with as many divisions as possible. bring back the midget/tq only days i say...
please come support the midget race on the 21st. hopefully the fellas at ventura will see how this incident has affected their fans and will take action to make sure it won't happen again.

Hockett/Mitchell stopped because they saw a red flicker!!! Anyone who contests that statement please confront Jesse or Matt in person? Both drivers wear contacts. Naylor's mind may partially be gone $$ and Cliff calling the shots!? I love Jim and Cliff like I love my brother, but I lost him due to a un-safe Race Track. I hope Naylor cleans his act up or he and his "state of the art" dirt tract will be gone too!!! Also please ask the Midget drivers about the non yellow, while J-Rod was dead on the track, on the 17th!!!??? Biggie is still sick today. He is also concerned about safety at Ventura. He and his crew had a good run going this month. Biggie prepares and works hard for his success. He chases the car and track all night!! Ventura is a great facility and I think we can bring Naylor back to reality?? See you guys at the Oval Nationals.

I agree totally with WHINITWASFUN. I was sitting in the turn four side of the grandstands and couldn't believe what I was seeing on the track. Sheridan got into the turn three fence hard, got upside down and was hit hard from another car. Hocket and Mitchel were running 1 & 2 and saw Sheridon on his head with fire coming from the car and stopped in turn 4 expecting a red. I couldn't believe it when there was no red. The track workers were dodging cars to get to Danny and the cars running on the track were dodging the wreck and the cars stopped in turn 4. In 47 years of going to the races I have never seen anything so ridiculous in my life. What amazed me is the regular VRA fans that were sitting in my area thought nothing about it. They seemed happy that Hocket and Mitchel were sent to the back and their regular VRA cars got to move up with a better chance for the cash. To top that incident off, with 3 laps to go a car hit the wall and the right front tire of the car was under the car and he drove like that for two laps and the flag man never gave him a black flag. I couldn't beleave what I was seeing. At that point I got up and left. I know sometimes the USAC officials get trashed, but they would have never let the lack of safety for the drivers and track workers happen like they did saturday night at Ventura. I was really looking forward to going to the Midgets on Nov. 21 but after what I saw there on saturday I 'm not sure I want to go back.

The real sad thing about the incident was that Luis Espinosa was penalized for stopping his car to help out Sheridan. He started in the back along with Mitchell and Hockett. The red should have been thrown. Espinosa is a real hero in my view of things as are Ventura's track crew.

Espinsoa was done for the night, his second stop. His car was pushed to the infield done. Yes the red should have been thrown. Maybe a heavy finger brushing over the button flashed the red light, never saw it myself. One guy said he saw a red but he was seeing red also.

Luckily Sheridan was not hurt. Ventura has been known to be a political track and Hockett and Mitchell got screwed plain and simple.

Do you really think there was a conspiracy? I'm sure that Jim Naylor didn't screw Hocket or Mitchell. Ventura doesn't throw the red for every crash. I was sitting in the stands and saw the same thing you guys did. Yellow flag and light. No red. They stopped...go to the back. It sucks, but, that's the way it goes.
I do think it should of been a red though. Sheridan was hit by Espinoza when he was up-side-down. That should be one of those times you have to throw the red. Louis was the first one to Danny's car. That is the second time, this year, that another driver got to the crashed car first.
Maybe for the last few races, Jim will let some push trucks come in and help out. It would be nice to see. All he would have to do is post a request on the VRA website and some one would respond.

Jackslashes video clearly shows the light in turn 3. Is it red or yellow?

Can't tell really at all by the video but great taping. The only person that knows in his heart if there was a red and should of knotted his stomach to know that he should of thrown a red was Jim and Cliff....they should re evaluate the situation and know that to throw a red and get the cars restarted is going to be alot easier than walking into a hospital room or worse when they are the ones in control..god forbid If racing takes too much time and trouble then they should go to the horse races on saturday---just a thought

I agree that there should of been a red flag thrown. Driver safety should be the first concern of a racetrack, not making curfew. That driver could of been seriously injured and if the car was on fire needs people there to help get them out of it, not wait for the cars on the track to slow down or wait for an opening of cars to get to the car.
