Wednesday & Thursday - Invert 10 cars, run 12 laps heats
Friday - Let all non-qualifiers run instead of cars 51 through 100 in points. (Correct me if I'm wrong on that) so that everyone gets to race twice.
Saturday - Keep same format with A Feature running 40 laps. I hope that the 50 lap feature next year doesn't get all rubbered down.

Every car has a chance to improve their position on Friday except
11-20 locked into Saturday's A and B. Why not run scrambles for them
too? Or, ditch the scrambles and the last chance show both and
do this. Divide the field into their respective mains based on Wed and
Thur points. Now invert them all in each main. Run a 12 lap E, 15 lap
D, 20 C, 25 B, and 30 A. Accumulate points the same as Wed/Thur toward
the final starting order for Saturday. We get a second night of all
cars. We get to see the fast guys in each main start in the back and
try to race their way forward. Friday nights show may just become the
best show of the week and is now worth the ticket price! Would the teams like it? Probably not as it
adds another degree of difficulty. But it's the Knoxville Nationals.
The highest paying most prestigious race of the year. It should be
difficult to win.
One thing I'd like to see that really could happen without much
fanfare is transfer 4 cars instead of 2 out of the E, D, and C on
Saturday. Currently, cars that transfer have almost 0 chance of
getting up to 2nd in the next race. But 4th wouldn't be out of the
question if they really got it going. It could make those races a little more exciting as a car would have a better chance of running the alphabet.
This year's last chance show made it harder to transfer through.
You only got one chance to make the A main. In the old format you had
the heat and then a B to get into the nights A main. It did take less
time though and certainly was as entertaining of a Friday night show as
I've seen in a long time watching Sammy "drive it like he stole it".
It actually may have been the highlight of the week.
Wing versus non wing... One question for the non wingers: If non
wing racing is so popular and the best racing and all that, where are
all the big payingshows? If it's all that, surely there must be enough people, and more importantly, sponsers, willing to
support it. But I don't see it happening. Heck, one of the biggest
paying non wing races of the year is put on by ...... a wing guy.....
for crying out loud. And we all know what happened at the biggest paying non wing race ever... Dad-gummed wing guys took home the money.
Why doesn't USAC pay $10,000 to win all it's non wing races like the
WoO does? Where are the Gold Cups, National Opens, Ironmans, and
Knoxville Nationals? If it really was that popular wouldn't the money
races would be there?

I love non-winged racing too, but the fan base isn't there. Oskaloosa aside, I've been to Indiana for speedweek and some of the places they run have seating capacity of about 2k. No way could those tracks afford a $10k to win race. Also, even the great weekly tracks like Kokomo pay like $1400 to win weekly. And this is Indiana, where the focus is 99% non-winged.
Conversely, Central PA, (where the focus is 99% winged) pays about $3000 to win for the average weekly show. Claim what you will about the racing being better, but the fan base doesn't back it up.

I just had a simple thought, that I'd like to see what others think. I am not petitioning for a change, just a simple idea. Let me preface, I am fine with the current format, I just think this is one could add some additional interest.
Wednesday Night - No Change
Thursday Night - No Change
Friday Night - No more LCQ. Eliminate the last chance qualifier and instead replace it with two complete shows. Take the total points from Wed/Thurs nights and divide all drivers into two groups. top point getter would be considered the #1 qualifier for group A, #2 point getter would be #1 qualifier for group B, 3rd point getter would be #2 qualifier for group A and 4th point getter would be #2 qualifier for group B. So on until you have to even fields based on total points. Then run two complete shows. One for Group A and one for Group B without Time Trials. Time Trials are based on the total points. Points are awarded for heats and mains just as they are on Wed/Thurs. A perfect three night score (Fast Time/Heat Win/Main Win/Heat Win/Main Win) would be 800 points. No more scrambles. Then run the World Challenge that night.
Saturday Night - Lineup the mains based on total points from the first three nights.
It just seems like there is too much emphasis on Wed/Thurs. I'd like to see one more night with a "full" program to really decide who is going to be taking home the $150,000. This would help ease the nights like Wednesday where the track is so narrow. Then all the drivers would race at least one qualifying night on the same track. Also, drivers would get to race against different drivers in each of
the shows. Some would be the same, but it would be a true Scramble of
the cars.
Thoughts?

Maybe 4 nights is too much given the state of the economy for both competitor and fan. Th, F, Sat. rain date on Sun.

Friday night was easily the best show of the week this year, in this fan's opinion...
Why change it?

Why not take the wings off for the 50th, then we'll see who the real drivers are. Also, bring back the mystery feature and states race and drop the scrambles.

Bingo--do the T-N-T thing and run a heat for points then run a qualifier for more points. Watch those T-N-T highlights and thats what sprint car racing ought to look like---not follow each other around because everybody is glued to the track because they have a patio roof on the car.

I thought this year's Friday night was some really good racing, plus I think those guys in the scrambles can use that extra money. Makes it worth finishing high enough up in each race, i.e. A, B, C,

Kahne-former USAC Midget Champ-no wing
Blaney-former Silver Crown Champ
Both ran lots of races with and without a wing.
