On a separate note, while we were loading up last night after the races my brother and I saw someone walking the track with measuring equipment and we both immediately laughed and looked at each other and agreed it had to be BRR. And we've never met or seen him to know what he looks like. We just knew who it had to be.

That walking stick is likely used more often for protection than measuring tracks, lol. At least PA has the biggest tracks not the fastest drivers, this IS important to some people. Take It Easy....

So, with all of these different measurements, shouldn't someone's speed be calculated by which groove they take around the track? If they take the shorter way around the track at a certain speed it'd look faster than the same speed around the top side. If they go high in 1&2 and low in 3&4 would they split that or just take the middle measurement?
See how ridiculous this sounds???
BTW: What's the speed around K'ville compared to the others?

not sure what "footage" is used in the timing spreadsheet for average lap speed (Bill W?).
we do not have the radar gun with us to check the straigh line speed - not much use unless you can get out in the grass at the turn entry for an accurate reading.
the post that started this thread simply verified that cars actually cover .5 mile at Kville...and when they call it a half mile - it is not a myth!

Actually, the speed would be calculated on the average length of the racing grove, the way it is at every IndyCar, NASCAR, or F1 venue.
The track would have one official length, how a driver chooses to cover that length is up to him.
Is it a huge deal either way, no not really. But it is interesting to see what the tracks actually measure.
Does it change how "fast" a track is? No. Eldora is still a scary fast place, even if it is only a 4/10. I-70 was wicked fast too, but it was 70 feet short of a half-mile around the OUTSIDE.
Didn't think I would ever say this, but keep it up BRR!

Average speed of current track records using BRR measurements
Lincoln .35 12.730= 98.978 mph
The Grove . .53 16.140=118.126 mph
Selinsgrove .54 16.207=119.948 mph
Eldora .43 12.707= 121.822 mph
Knoxville .52 14.407= 129.937 mph
I couldn't find Port Royals TR, the website is down.
I guess BRR did prove one thing with this though, PA is home to some of the slowest dirt tracks in the country

BRR! I'm getting in my car in about 2 hours to head to Knoxville, will be there at 10ish tonight. When are we going to get together and have a beer and talk about whether or not global warming will make John Edwards' illegitimate children deformed?

Here is your Kindergarten art project.
Print both tracks in the same scale. Use your round end scissors to cut out your tracks.
Set Eldora inside of Knoxville.
Peace Out!

I saw someone measuring the track after the races, obviously the infamous BRR (we have never met).
I will testify that he was drinking and driving behind the wheel of the measuring stick (lol)...
If I see you tonight will definetely make acquaintance BRR...
Later,
Mac

I think a couple of factors have been over looked which makes track comparisons practically impossible, I have yet to race a track that is a spitting image of one other , the banking and "dirtonomics " (sorry i made that up) of a particular track make the surface carry less or more speed. just the consistancy of the amont or % of clay, rubber, silt measured in a particular surface make up the amount of friction a tire will addhear too ,compaction and moisture are part of what makes Dirt Racing exciting , never the same track, it makes the challenge much much more difficult ,Im not taking anything away from asphalt racers on here, but, I find the dirt much more to my liking (reguarless if it is Grove,Kville,Eldora Ect) and im sure many of you on here will agree, or maybe not? this is a message board!

your boy edwards has been granted several weeks to put together a plausible love child excuse...will he be PERMITTED to speak at the DNC convention?
you may have not heard, but the protestors in Denver were required to sign a document promising NOT to throw buckets of feces onto the oncoming limos carrying the liberal elite to their perch!
can't wait to see the meltdown...look for me tonight after the races!

No problem. I never sweat it because I always know that the next time he comes to the slow grove, he'll whip your boys all night long even though they race there 40 times a year. Really, it's not even a challenge anymore for he or the other Outlaws to dominate. It's hilarious that Posse fans even still exist, as pitiful as their attempt at competing against the best actually is. I'll just keep on laughing, knowing that your boys won't get past the B-main while Schatz (on his worst qualifying night in what seems like forever) is easily in the A-scramble again.

No, the Belleville Highbanks is by far the fastest dirt track on the planet, and it makes Eldora look like a bullring...

Wow, I'm actually surprised Knoxville measured out that big. I always thought it was a little smaller. I guess that would make it by far the fastest sprint car track in the country. The puzzling thing is that it's also the flattest. It must be the shape with the short straights and long turns that makes it faster? To the naked eye the cars look to be going just as fast at Selinsgrove and Port Royal as K-ville but the numbers don't lie.
