Better yet (noticing your avatar) why is Tim Crawley not running this show??? I've only been able to see him run during ASCS speedweeks over the past few years and I love watching that guy drive! Maybe I'm crazy, but from what I have seen... I think he would be in the 15-20 mix.

A couple of things to note here...

The All Stars have teams competing for a 50k points championship....80k is you want to count 2009 tow money into the equation. Why shouldn't they come out to the Midwest PRIOR to the Nationals with fresh equipment instead of running the week after with depleted resources? Besides, after the Nationals, the fans from afar go home and the locals turn their interest to other things. There's a reason Knoxville takes a week off after Nationals and then only runs two more weekends...the interest just isn't there. Why shouldn't the All Stars capitalize on an opportunity to give traveling teams an opportunity to compete for some really good money on their way to Knoxville for the NATIONALS? Tell the fans at Eagle and Husets that they shouldn't have a quality 410 race because another track over three hours (in Eagle's case) and five hours (Husets case) has priority. Should those fans be required to travel to see quality racing?

Here's another reason the All Stars are racing when they are racing...Belleville asked for a race to open the Belleville Midget Nationals weekend. It's a great opportunity for the series to open one of the most traditional events in open wheel racing. What should Guy Webb do? Tell them he can't come because the Knoxville 360 Nationals are that weekend?

Thunder Through the Plains is a unique event, too. Four tracks in four nights...every track being unique in and of itself. Belleville, Thunderhill, Eagle and Husets...$5,000 to WIN EVERY NIGHT. A thrilling points championship battle taking shape. Fans getting a chance to see drivers they wouldn't normally see...Dewease, Blaney, Hannagan, Wilson and many more who'll pop in at one or two (or more) races. It's a chance to build some momentum for those teams heading to the NATIONALS (should they deisre).

Here's another thing...why is it that it's OK for the World of Outlaws to race that weekend in Wisconsin but when the All Stars schedule races the series is perceived to have some kind of "evil intent"? The All Stars and WoO don't schedule races during the NATIONALS...are they supposed to lay down the previous week as well? These series are committed to so many sanctioned races to fulfill sponsor deals. They have a business to run, too

Instead of people complaining that fans/teams "have to choose", why not view this as an opportunity to see some great racing and for teams to race for really good money in the area, whether it be with the All Stars or Knoxville)

A Hall of Fame car owner/builder once told me that in the old days, there would be races every night for a month leading up to the Knoxville Nationals to capitalize on cars coming in to the Midwest...Topeka, Kansas City, Wichita, Eagle, ect. So...what's wrong with trying to build a little bit of that tradition back again?

I'm looking forward to a fun Thunder Through the Plains tour. Should be good crowds each night. I'm sure Knoxville will have a good crowd, too, when the 410s run on Saturday night.

With the high car counts for the 360 nationals it sure would be nice to see a better purse, I'm not knocking what they have now and maybe the payout is based in part of the attendance? The 360 nationals have really grown since they moved it to the weekend before the big show. This has to be the best 10 days of sprint car racing all year long.Smile

Personally, I'm looking forward to the all-stars race at husets on sunday. I live in Sioux Falls and go to the nationals every year so this will be a good warm up. Can't wait!

Yea, to answer your question...I do some work for the All Stars and Guy Webb is a friend of mine. I'll be on the announcing crew for next week's races and have done some "behind the scenes" work for the series. I do this because I share a similar vision with Webb regarding the future of the sport. (It sure as hell isn't because of the money or any finacial gain...lol). In fact, I'm heading to Eagle and Husets this weekend to promote next week's races. I want those tracks to do well and that success will lead to more quality sprint car racing in the future.

I hope that answers your question...not that it matters.

Ok, that explains it...

Well, I would like to take this oppurtunity to invite all race fans to see one of the most underated sprint car events of the year....3 days in a row at one of the greatest dirt track venues in the nation...The Knoxville 360 Nationals.

You want to talk names?...How about Allard, Giannetto, McCarl, Adams, Henderson, Wright, L. Dallansky, Brown, Alley, Higday, Droud, Rilat, Sowald, Jason Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Chappell, Lee Jacobs, Dover, Hockett, Natalie " Hotter than Danica" Sather, I could go on and on.....and if youve never seen Dustin Daggett or Brian Howland run, you don't know what you've been missing!

You can choose thunder through the plains or the 360 Nationals. Come to Knoxville on Thursday and you wont have to start youre vehicle for 10 Days ( except to travel to Osky on Monday and Tuesday). Have you ever traveled through the flatland of Kansas and Nebraska in late July and August ?...It's about as exiting as a Donnie Schatz victory lane interview...

Saturday night August 2nd, the 360 National Finals night is one of the best nights of sprint car racing anywhere, with 100 360's fighting for the $10,000 to win $500 to start National Championship. Along with this up to 50 410's running in the National Tune-up night....and all for just $20 bucks!!

Don't get me wrong, I love 410 racing as well, and have nothing against the All-Stars..just think they are trying to feed from Knoxville's teet. T-Mac has already mastered this and there is only room for one...

After all the name of this post is "knox 360 nats", not "thunder through the plains"....so Katich, start youre own post..

Sidebar..the information included in this message is entirely of the authors view, and the author is in no way representing or a paid employee of Knoxville Raceway.......I do however know Duane Robuck and Yard dog.

JTC, i agree with most of what you say, I use to attend all nights of the 360 nats, when they ran in june, but 10 nights in a row is just a bit much for my budget and the sat, before nats has always been one of my favorite nights for as long as I can remember.

it seems to me like Guy Webb has a different view of what helps sprint car racing to what most people think, and what the guy series MASS appears to be trying to do to a weekly track is pretty bad

knoxville is hurting themselves a bit by running the 360s the weekend before

I will be at the 360 sat night, same sat night that I have attened for as long as I can remember, actully hit that night more than main event night

Damn, this has turned into a real pissing match eh??? I get sent to the corner much earlier in this post, for making a point about car counts, and now its Mr. Katich's turn to be sent to the corner with the dunce cap on.. Go on now Mr. Katich, to the corner you go.. LOL.

I remember the days when the "JAYHAWK NATIONALS" were run just days before the "NATIONALS" in Knoxville. Whether it was at the old Lakeside Speedway, or at Topeka Raceway, or at Linn County, the cars would fill the pits from all over, and they were great shows. Damn good times, but somehow that got messed up by some group or organization some how.

Either way, its nice to have the ALL-STARS organization run out our way in the midwest again.. I have enjoyed seeing there brand of '410 sprint cars for years previous on the old NCRA>ALL-STARS clashes of the mid-nineties till 2000..

John are you still in the corner??? Stay there till the '360 Natls. are over.... LOL

And all you up Knoxville way, chill.. there is plenty to go around.. Crack open a cold one.. Enjoy the show....

The ASCOC have been running in the midwest every year. Last few years their shows weren't anything to brag about. I for one am looking forward to Knoxville. It's the 1 time of the year the 360's get my full attention. Next week is one of the best nights of the year, 360 Nats and the "tune" up week for the 410's. See you in Knoxville!
