I'd love to see the Victorville show! Please give us an update from a spectators viewpoint on the event! It would be greatly appreciated RadRobinlb! Thanks, Troy White

T-Dub, Great event at Victorville last night. The track was extremely fast, and the fans were treated to some great racing. Mike Spencer, Chaffin #50, set the fast time and new track record, with Tony Jones, Alexander #4, right behind him. In all, there were 31 cars that showed up, about half of what was expected. Most of the teams that showed were USAC/CRA regulars with a few Victorville regulars, two VRA guys, and an Arizona guy. Blake Miller, Gardner #93, won the event with Jones coming in second, and Davey Pombo, Crossno #38, coming in third. It was a cold night, but I forgot about it, the racing was that good. I thought that the Victorville facility was great, and, with a little modernization, would be a good home track for any series. There is some more info on the event on the So. Cal board.

T-dub, You seem pretty informed about the USAC Western Sprints, and I have a question for you. My father and I took in the race Saturday night at Roseville, and it was extremely entertaining. I have never seen sprints on asphalt before, and boy was it a treat. My question is regarding the guy who led most of the main event laps, Eric Humphries, I thought he did a fine job holding off those two Kaplan cars for most of the race. Where did he come from? I have never heard his name before. Any information you may have, or anyone else for that matter, would be greatly appreciated.

Sprints on asphalt can be pretty cool at the right track. Although I prefer supermodifieds for pavement racing, the sprints are also pretty good at Madera. I am a dirt sprint/midget fan myself, but I have seen some pretty damn good pavement races. I've seen lots of people equate asphalt sprint racing with watching paint dry, but, I've found when the racing is good, it doesn't make much difference between pavement and dirt.

Thanks for the info RadRobinlb! 31 cars isn't to awfully bad. The diversity of drivers and associations is what I think is really cool! I'd like to see more OPEN COMP shows like that one at some other venues. Maybe someday..........

No problem T-Dub. They just announced another Open Comp show for the end of May at Victorville. This one promises to better than the last. Maybe you can make it down here for that one. Have a great day.
