Ricky was busy in Texas helping Rico to a 7th place finish.

What's up with Rico this year?  He seems to be in a run if bad luck.  Last night he ended up flipping while running out of the top five.  Shows how hard this sport can be and how competive this HL series is.  Just a tick off and they're mid pack.

I've always liked Rico.  However, he is who he is, and regardless of the opinion of one particular Hoser, Ricky Warner is not going to turn him into Donny Schatz in his prime.  Ricky Warner isn't going to turn anyone into Donny Schatz in his prime, because you first have to have Donny Schatz.  As Murphy already pointed out, Donny has more talent than Rico.  IMO, he has more talent than just about anyone who has ever strapped on a helmet and jumped into a 410 winged sprint car. Arguments can be made about Kinser, Sammy, Wolf, and Larson, but the list is short.

Rico is a great driver, but he is not at that level, and he will continue to be a threat most nights, and will pick up some wins, with a smattering of hot streaks.  I don't see him ever having the equivalent of a 30 win Outlaw season, but he will be a formidable opponent each and every time he is in the field.  So in my opinion, there's nothing up with Rico this year----he's Rico.

If Schatz keeps this up, he could win his second Knoxville Nationals and his second Kings Royal without Ricky.

Bad luck would have sufficed but you covered all the bases and then some.  Thanks!

Yes, he's had some bad luck for sure.  My pointed comments weren't necessarily aimed at you, but more at everyone's favorite Hosehead.  wink

Yes and in the process, placing himself solidly upon sprint car racing's Mt. Rushmore. Kinser, Donny, Wolfie, Sammy. That's it. No debate to be made. You can argue the particular order but it's those 4 in their own elite group. Donny has done much of his finest work in an era where parity has been the theme compared to what it was years ago when the field would be separated by 5 or 6 seconds. Kinser isn't known as the King of the NST or the USA. He's the King of the Outlaws. End of story.

He's doing ok. He won a WoO race this weekend. What did you accomplish?

I think Eliason would love to have Donny's worst season.

Cory has been really solid this year. 6 races with High Limit, two top 10s, one crew chief fired. Average finish 15th. Can't imagine the 11 time Nationals champ and 10 time WoO champion doing any better than that.

Also rans don't win the National Open. Donny most recently won it in 2020. Also rans don't win the Kings Royal. He won it in 2023. And also rans sure as hell don't win the Knoxville Natonals. He won it in 2022.

The way I roll as a fan drivers that I interacted with are personal favorites and that includes our neighbors.  I don't get involved in the dick measuring contest about who is best.  That is a young man's thing.  At my age it's all about waking up alive for another day and seeing one more race.  We worry about tomorrow if it comes.  Life is too short to die on the hill of arguing about racing.

For sure!   wink

In all seriousness for the Stawsers of the world,

This is the twilight of Donny's career.  If Vegas were to put pre-race odds on the winner of the 2024 Nationals, Donny, without RW, would be a favorite over just about any driver in the field--- including Rico with RW.  I would have to believe the only drivers Vegas would give higher, or equal odds to, would be Gravel, Sweet, and Larson.  Schatz would be 4th on the list.
