To anyone who needs to re-live the Doug Wolgang alphabet soup run. Buy yourself a ticket to the HOF. Better yet, go to the 360 Nats and spend the weekend in Knoxville. It isnt near as busy and I bet you can be the only one in the theatre on the 2nd floor. You can watch so many good videos -- including the run Doug had from the D main to the A. Had there been another 20 laps or so he prob does win the A main that year. The show is a little long, but it was made for good tv back then. Sit and enjoy.

Can also find all 4 races on Youtube in their entirety.

Hard Knox Night is perfect. Leave it the way it is...
I never did like it when they ran the A,B,C Scrambles.

Agree about Kings Royal format. I can't wrap my head around it, but whatever. I enjoy watching it, but I've seen too many cars "average" their way to a pole in that race, while cars that unload fast completely miss the show. Silly.
As far as your assessment of missing the show on Friday night goes, you've pretty much summed up what would be a terrible week for any team, and they wouldn't really deserve much more of a chance anyways. So in your scenarios, they end up running exactly where they qualified to run anyways. If you go out late, and you're deserving of a chance to make the Championship night feature, you should be able to time in the top 24. The top 24 in qualifying on Friday night run the top 2 rows of the 6 heats in an invert. 25th fastest would start 5th in the 1st heat, and would only have to move up 2 spots, and so on. (Friday night is only a 4 car invert on TT's)
Just my thoughts.

Fair points but 27th in points after the 2 nights isn't necessarily a terrible week. You'd start 7th in the B main under the old format (which I'm not advocating bringing back). I just think the vast majority of the money is paid on Saturday and while Friday is a 2nd chance for everyone, some teams have more to lose than others. That said there probably isn't a great way to solve that issue.
But not taking into account a car that passes a lot of cars in their heat but doesn't transfer is something I think that they can tweak. Knoxville is pretty much perfect as it is so not a huge deal but i think there may be room for improvement on Friday.

How about letting the drivers pick their Friday qualifying spot based on points from Wed/Thurs.............................?
Would be an incentive to continue digging on qualifying night even if you knew you were out of it...

My only comment on 16 days in Knoxville.
1) In the past, with Cappy in charge, there was always a crew either power washing the fence, or painting it in the days before the Nationals. The joint always looked classy. Not happening since the management changed hands.
2) Cattle get better treatment on their way to slaughter than the front gate at Knoxville during the Nationals for its fans. Particularly since putting in the golf cart lane/parking spot. Why not core drill a couple holes in the concrete so the main gates could be opened far enough for pedestrian traffic but not enough for a vehicle to fit thru. The only time I seen the main gates open was after the Saturday finale.
3) Pork tenderloins are not square, chicken bites used to have real chicken, rather than chicken flavored sponge like material.
