No flat bill caps or long sponser list
Also, no climbing uptop on the wing. Great to see. Going on top of the wing is the second dumbest thing in racing, next to doing donuts.
|
huh? Flat bill caps, sponsors, and celebrations are what's wrong with today's sprint car racing? Ok. I would really like to party with you sometime. Should we start early so you can be home for Matlock and Murder She Wrote?

He was fine last night. That was his best shot and still ends up 2nd. That's better then a couple other times this year where he ended up in the back for being overly aggressive when it wasn't needed.
He'a had some of the shittiest luck at times this year too. Friday night at Attica wasn't the first time that sheer dumb luck costed him a win. He's a couple decisions and some randomness away from being right there with Brad for at least wins.
|
I'm not sure how much dumb luck it is, or a mix of making your own luck. Attica was a bad deal, but some of the other races, Sheldon is just running way too hard, which causes racing lapped cars way too hard or cutting tires.

Sheldon tried to knock the wall down all night. How many times did Gibson say "Sheldon in the wall" tonight. If he ever learns a little patience and risk vs reward he will be a WoO champ.
|
Yea, he's usually pretty fast but some how manages a lot of "close but no cigar" finishes...
Oh well, definitely fun to watch...

Dave ran a great race!
|
He sure did. There are a lot of fans like I said in my previous post who weren't around during Dave's pre NASCAR Sprint Car career. His win the other night gave them a demonstration of how great he was.

Great win.
|
That's great! Very satisfying to chalk a 'W' with your own design I'm assuming. The fact that a veteran winner wins isn't that surprising, but to get a 'not off the shelf' car to VL against the best is pretty noteworthy! Great deal

I will say I agree even if some do think that it is boring. As a great college football coach used to tell his players. "When you score a touchdown it is ok to be happy and celebrate a little but act like you have done it before."

I thought the rules were so tied up that nobody could build outside the box. There has been endless chatter about the store bought pieces and everything is so equal., the days of Karl Kinser are gone.
So tell me, which is true? Do you have to build from a certain catalogue of pre approved options or is their room to still be an outlaw by schedule and by design???
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

Fairly sure that the rule book states very little about the suspension ideas that many have tried & most have failed. As long as the overall appearance of wings & body panels meet the defined measurements verl little has changed since the late 60's.
Congrats to the Buckeye Bullet!!

Heck yeah
|
How about that grin on his face when he climbed out of the car?
He ran the bottom most of the race, didn't show his hand until it counted. Fun!

He's lost more due to himself, but the dumb luck ones aren't far behind. He cut a tire leading at Jackksonville and I think there might have been one other where he had no control.
I think Blaney has both wings angled to the sides too. Pretty sure 3 or maybe all 4 top post are a different heights. That's what I always notice about that car.

Following Sheldon til the last lap.might be a safe strategy. Especially when you ate watching him bang the wall every 3rd lap. Why risk getting caught up in his wreck when you can pass by on the yellow safely.

care what most of you think!

Congratulations to the Buckeye Bullet, my 1st driver favorite goign back to the early 90's and the Vivarin sponsored car, Woodruff wrenched and Casey & Beverly Luna (NM) owned Ford powered sprint car. Used to love watchign him diamond the corners at Eldora. Then off to Nascar and my 2 hr naps betwen the start and finish of their races.
I might have to dig our my Blaney paraphanalia and were it proudly this spring.
Was Dale Blaney at Sharon or workign for the All Stars in Gas City?
I like that he's still sporting Bill Davis Trucking sponsorship, and Ryan Balney for that matter.
Would it be safe to assume the photos of Dave's in victory lane on the phone was to call Ryan telling him of Victory?
Good articles/bios on the Sprint Car HOF page for both Dave & Dale.

Dave's win is almost hauntingly similar to the 1993 Kings Royal when he made a last lap pass of another Haudenschild after he knocked a coil wire off while banging the outside wall for 40 laps.

Not his 1st WOO win, just the first one in a long time. He was very successful on the WOO tour(former champion I believe) before he left to pursue a nascar career. His brother(Dale) works for ASCoC. He does own Sharon(with his brother and family I think. Don't know who built the car.
