The two best winters of my life were spent in Aussie land. Of all the many tracks in many places I was ever lucky enough to see, PCR and Warrnambool rank in my top half dozen, some of the best racing I ever saw was there as well.

The Aussie hard core fan is as passionate as the Posse fan in this country and that's tough to compete with. Guys like Mr. Beard, Mr Evans and a few others put their LIVES into this sport and it's better because of them.

Aussie's by and large like to do three of the same things I have most enjoyed in my time on this planet, Drink/Party, Gamble and go Racing. The only negative, they don't let you wear shorts in some of their 'clubs', WTF?

If anyone gets to PCR this winter give a hug and a hello to Patti and Don at the Pit Stop Shop souvenir stand. They were my hosts for almost 6 months and likely the two nicest people I have ever known, love you guys! Take It Easy.....

Going to help people out with out their replies

Daniel and Jon do a great job for our sport and should take bow .As for Drink Gamble and go racing .Yes please aint that the only things to do in life

Which Clubs wouldnt let you in in shorts .Name them and shame here

Pat and Don no longer have the Pit shop which is shame .PCR took it back over as a commercial decision .Which is a shame

damn dude - that was one of the coolest and informative posts I've seen on hoseheads. the race format there is great. as here it's either time trials and 1 set of heats - or 2 sets of heats minus the time trials. Driving - if it's like that I'm having none of it - I would take an ambien and hope I wake up at the track. lol.

Australia has got to be one of the most fascinating places to me. more so because throughout my life I've studied history and geography hardcore. and when it comes to geography - aussie has it all. and I would like to hear more of personal perspective on the wildlife there. You guys have some crazy wildlife. I'm not talkin bout kangaroos. I'm talkin about the crazy swarms of mice and more importantly - the WHACKED OUT spiders ya'll have there - including the funnel-web. From my readings I learned one of the most populated regions for the funnel web is western sydney and the outskirts. How do people there deal with that? Knowing that if that sucker bites ya you are probably a goner. And I also noticed that TPCR is in the western part of sydney - funnel webs around there too? I read those spiders have taken a liking to urban areas in sydney.....that whole thing really peaks my curiosity................

why are the roads in such bad condition? One would think around the populated coastlines they would be really good. not suprising to hear they aren't good in no man's land though. One other thing - what attendence do most tracks average there? and thank you for the quarter-mile comparison - as when lookin at track web sited it lists them all in meters - which loses me fast.

thank you all for the great replies - man this is really cool stuff............and another thing - if I ever came to AU I would definitely have to go to New Zealand too - which I hear has sprint races too. what are they like? I watched a show about this place in New Zealand - I can't remember the name of it which pisses me off - but it was about a highway that went through some very lush mountain area that also had glaciers, forests, vert short and steep cliffs and mountains. looked awesome. whats terrain like in AU by the coasts? any mountains and hills? or is it flat dry plains like where I live in Oklahoma?

Where do I start .Spiders If I find them I take my shoe off and kill them .No Funnels Webs have been found at TPCR .They like warm areas.Tendency to hibernate around those area .The one you have to look out for are .Those Redbacks on the toilet seat .

Why are the Roads so bad ,can you tell me a mixture of fundings between the Federal ,State and Local Governments

Check this site out http://www.ozroads.com.au/ and this one http://www.fixourbloodyroads.com/

Attendance varies on the meeting Club Shows 1000 International Shows 3000 through 10000 11000

The only thing I can help you with last paragraph is the show may have been about the South Island

yes sir So. Island does kind of ring a bell. No funnel webs at TPCR - thats a good thing. lol. I've figured unless people keep some sort of antecdote for a bite of that variety - they would scared to death of it. Redbacks? what are those? poisonous? I take it spiders are very fond of the populated coastlines.

that really is a shame about the roads. Seems like every highway in australia is like Lawson Road that Devil's Bowl Speedway sits on in Mesquite, Texas. I sympathize with Aussie's on that.

To wind this baby down - what steps could I take - or any other things that could be done - to cut down costs for a US winter full of racing in aussie land? Surely there must be some things - travel packages and other stuff of the sort........I ask this towards everyone. Thats something I would really love to do maybe in like 2009 or 2010-----its just very cost effective. And with great races here in Oklahoma City, regional ascs races, Knoxville 360 Nationals, Short Track Nationals, Devil's Bowl Winter Nationals, and the Chili Bowl...........it gets harder and harder every year to save money.
