No experience on the tracks he raced, no practice, no testing - sounds like Kinser and Berstein all over again.

Kinser and Bernstein, a classic example of thinking the grass is always greener.

A bit off topic but I think SK ended up with a pretty good sponsor after his short lived nascar career.

Yes he did. I could only imagine if he would have stayed with karl kinser. A fairy tale career could have possibly been greater than what it was.

The article doesn't even mention Gravel... its all about Logan Misuraca

He should be able to earn a ride on his own, no?
I'd rather watch him on dirt anyway...

You just now figuring out that succeeding in NASCAR is not 100% based on talent?

Thankfully sprint car racing isn't the same way on any level.  That's sarcasm by the way.

i don't think buying rides is unique to nascar so it's not one of the first criticisms i would make about the sport.  i posted in the last conversation on this subject about buying rides in foruma 1.  it happens all the way up and down racing.

by the way...romain grosjean's crash yesterday might have been the worst crash i've ever seen somebody survive.  definitely in f1.  you don't have your car split in half and get the half flaming half of the car you're sitting in wedged into a fence...and survive.  it always surprises me the safety lapses in f1 despite how sophisticated they think they are.  the angle of the fence was the first problem...closely followed by the type of fence and how a car could burst into flames like that.

i do think nascar is finally making some of the right moves by ditching the mile and a halfs for short tracks and road courses.  it should be a huge boost that a popular driver from the south like chase elliott won the title.  people will whine all day about everything then snap in line to support a winner (see:  kyle larson in pa).

I'll say this for Logan Misuraca, she didn't get there with a big family checkbook paving the way.  Her dad's sprint car was a low buck car among low buck cars.  In 2016 she was working on her dad's sprint car as hard as she could at the track. Not watching others work and looking cute, actually working on the car.  I have never seen Logan actually drive, but she must have been hustling to go from wrenching on her fathers sprinter to getting into a truck seat in less than 5 years without big time family money behind her.  What I saw from Logan in 2016 was hard work, humillity and a love fro the sport.  I hope that hasn't changed and that is what got her where she is today.

If anyone is avoiding NASCAR because of ride buying and bringing money to teams they haven't been paying attention to the behind the scenes Sprint Car deals.  I think in a lot of ways aside from owner/drivers the big money Sprint Car teams are following that same formula of giving preference to drivers that have something beyond their talent to offer.  It's only going to get more and more like that as costs to field a car continue to rise.

I only have to look at my own family's involvement in racing to see those changes.  They started off with home built modifieds of the early 60's and ended up owning Sprint Cars through 1976 when my cousin got out of it due to the expenses of fielding a competitive Sprint Car.  He was a welder by trade and had a few local businesses as sponsors and he had some big name drivers make starts in his cars including Jerry Richert Sr. and Roger Rager.  Their last ever big win was 1976 Cheaters Day with Jerry Richert Sr. in the car.

I recall an early World of Outlaws race at North Starr Speedway in 1979 where Steve Kinser and Richert battled wheel to wheel with Kinser taking the win.  Richert accomplished that driving a locally owned car that competed around Minnesota and Wisconsin weekly against local competition.  Today the only way to come close to that is to have equipment capable of winning and most regions today are 360 and 305 with only a few 410 hotspots.  No local racer in my area has the kind of gear necessary to keep up with those guys and that divide will only get worse.  While I admire the talent of the top racers I think a lot of places they have a distinct advantage before they even unload the race car because their gear is top notch.

I think we have been in a big money situation in Sprint Cars for quite a few years now.
