As fast as this is evolving, it will kill about that many worldwide.  I know the population is much greater now, but how can anyone not be taking this seriously yet?  My family has first hand knowledge of how serious this is.  My wife's relation in NYC was blowing this off about 2 weeks ago.  About 10-12 of them got together----against the recommendation of the local, state and federal government----and had a little family get-together.  3 of them hospitalized with pnuemonia.  Does that sound like the flu?  3 healthy 60 year old people from one family gathering?  (one of them about died)

Everyone needs to quit with the flu statistics.  The flu statistics encompass an entire 12 months.  We are really at about day 30 of this as the first few cases were mostly contained.  This is going to destroy the numbers of the annual flu and will destroy the numbers from the last 3 world pandemics.  There were plenty of people who took the Spanish Flu lightly at the onset too.  See Philadelphia.

We can keep blowing this off.  We can keep bringing up politics.  We can keep thinking we're invincible.  It's going to be serious to our health and economy over the next year.  After that is all done, then start thowing numbers at me.  I would LOVE to say you were right and I was wrong.  Science and math (not polititians) say you will be wrong.  So far, everything they have said would happen, has happened.  Why would you be so inclined to dismiss their predictions going forward from here?

The U.S. will be "closed" for the month of April and maybe 1/2 or all of May.  Easing up before May 1st will be a disaster

Let them continue to show their stupidity...

I may have been wrong about Hawker, hmmm.  Who in this thread said Captain Orange is doing 'such a great job'?  This deal has been in the media since Jan. and it's almost April, where have you been Sarge?  This flu will go down in History as the most HYPED of all-time and nowhere near the deadliest. Wake up sheeple and while you're at it turn off the TV.  Continuously Nuttier News has been trying to bury your feerless (LOL) leader for 4 years and all they've done is likely get him re-elected, nobody deserves that mistake but I would love to see it happen....

Where have I been? I've been tracking and calling attention to this since November...That's what happens when you DO watch, listen and read the news. BTW, Trump now admits that they are using projections from the Murray model for the USA. That model has the equivelant of deaths as WWI, Korean and Vietnam wars combined by July. Yes, turn off the TV....go have a group hug with the fellow naysayers and maybe I will send flowers.

Same ol' Pat.  When asked a specific question, 'Who in this thread said Trump is doing such a great job?' you don't answer.  Never have, never will.  Hell, somebody may have said it, I never read all the posts, waiting for your response first though.

I never asked where YOU have been. I asked where Sarge (egras) had been, it's not always about you, hell it's never about you...

Have you ever applied at CNN (made it simple for ya), you sure have their routine of BS down well.  When the good ol' USA goes bankrupt and unemployed it's cry wolf clowns that deserve the credit, you lead the group...

I would love nothing more than to buy you a beer at a race NEXT July and tell you I was wrong and you were right.  But, I, and most health experts, believe you're going to be wrong.  If this "fizzles out" in May of this year, there will still likely be 100,000+ dead in this country.  I can do math, can you?  Can you see how fast the deaths are multiplying?  On March 14th--2 weeks ago, the U.S. reported 9 deaths on that day.  Yesterday, 14 days later, the U.S. reported 525 deaths.  By next Saturday, I would estimate a daily death toll of 2000-4000 people---in one day.   What makes you think this trend is going to stop?   This will pass our flu totals by next weekend.

If this fizzles out in May, and "only" 100,000 are dead, it's already more deadly than the flu----with a long time, and many cold months ahead before a vaccination is available.

As to the "this deal has been in the media since Jan. and it's almost April"   We have not been in a full-fledged outbreak for more than a month---maybe only 2 or 3 weeks.  We had some spotty cases from overseas travellers but not a sustained spread within our borders.  I said a week or so ago we were in inning number 2 of a 9 inning game.  I think I was wrong.  We are now in inning number 2.  We were in inning 1 back then.

As far as the politics, I really could give two craps about the politicians.  I'm listening to the scientists and the politicians have been listening to them.  The politicians are merely a vessel to spread the information of the scientists.

Couple last things since you guys aren't paying much attention..

Hawker has still not answered the very simple question I've asked 3 times now and E- man 18,000.000 (Spanish Flu minimum death number) is somewhat different than your toll number of 100,000.  Stop pushing the Panic Button, PULEASSEEE...

I don't have a side in this, I'm nearing the end anyways.  What I have said all along is that this disease is HYPED, most people are being cured, NOT dying.  Enough with 'The Sky is Falling' BS that CNN flaunts and you two guys have seriously bought in to.  I woud have thought you guys were smarter than that, you're not going to save the world, it doesn't need it, let it go and get on with your lives to the best of your abilities  Hug your family, wash often and watch some music on Youtube or racing on Flo or Dirtvision.  Oh yeah, get a case of Chill Pills and use often....

What kind of ass backwards approach are you brining here? Do you not expect the human race to evolve over time?

This basically looks like "HURR DURR THIS HASNT KILLED AS MANY PEOPLE AS IT DID BACK IN MY DAY, STOP WHININ."

Do you know what the average life expectancy was in the US in 1918? Roughly 37 for men and roughly 42 for women. I'm certainly glad people over the years decided not to have this attitude and figured out ways to have access to clean water, medicine, food safety, labor safety, etc. I wonder what the Spanish Flu rate would have been if they had the advantages we have today - instant transfer of news, better healthcare, overall better quality of life.

Back to the current - imagine if we hadn't "pushed the panic button" what the numbers would look like right now. Thankfully, the curve looks like it might be starting to flatten, incidentally about two weeks exactly to the timespan social distancing measures started to get put into place. Let me be clear - there is still a lot of uncertainty in the number, especially due to questions on tesing capabilities.

You want to walk into one of the completely overrun hospitals in NYC and tell the exhausted staff to stop pushing the panic button?

This is one of the most absurdly low intelligence comments I've seen on this subject on this board. Even the hardest headed deniers have seemed to waive the white flag, understanding how grossly they misunderstood the severity of this pandemic.

Then again, I'm not surprised - the types who use the phrase "WakE uP SheEpLe" are walking Dunning-Kruger cases.

And there you have it folks.  Read your comments people. 2 parties squawking like a bunch of kids. That's what's wrong with america.

I bet when that check shows up in your bank account your going to forget real fast what party affiliate you are.

The one question I always ask a politician. Whats your thoughts on term limits ?  Try it sometime, if you get a answer I will be surprised. Or as most do, they ignore you and go on to the next question.

The 2 party system needs to be eliminated.  I want to hear a person's beliefs,  how many vote on the floor just because there party would look down on them if they did not ?

How many walk into a polling booth and vote strictly on party lines. To many, you are the problem.

1.  18,000,000 deaths from Spanish flu was world wide.  100,000 deaths from coronavirus is BEST case scenario for the United States.  You are not comparing apples to apples.

2.  The 100,000-200,000 BEST case scenario for coronavirus deaths in the US is because of the very steps our gov't has taken based off of the recommendations.  The worst case scenario was for us to let this run through our population unchecked----like the Spanish Flu did--and over 1,000,000 die in the US alone.

3.  Worth noting--the 100,000 to 200,000 BEST case scenario is still 2-5 times worse than the average flu season.  And, it doesn't take the place of the flu season so tack this number on to the already bad flu season.  Not sure how you're dismissing this with all of the vulnerable people we all know.  ??

And, who's hitting the panic button between myself and Hawker?  We are stating facts and numbers.  Didn't tell anyone to get a bunker.

Carlin has so many insightful statements!

We used to think of him as a comedian. Now that he's gone, we realize his wisdom

Carlin was one of the most brilliant speakers that could also make you laugh but also make sense. Given all of the political talk lately by everyone in the country, I am reminded what he said about politicians on both sides. They are basically put there because major business' & lobbyists fund their campaigns. Politicans rarely do what their constituents/indiduals would like. They normally just do whoever is funding their wallet wants to do.

The fascinating thing is the foresight some of our founders and earlier Presidents/legislators had, creating plenty of laws to combat most of what Carlin is against here. And shock, as time goes on, all of those have been systemically dismantled to lead to where we are today. It is a shame.

Had no idea he ever said that. Unfortunately he's spot on. As we are all finding out more and more every day.

I wish just once...that politics could be left out of threads.  And people being civil would be nice too.  Maybe open up a thread about politics and track surface for tracks that yall could talk in? haha

And the problem is Stan, you have to feel like you can't tell everyone what is important to you without someone feeling like you are bashing their favorite politicians and "their" party.  It's too bad really.

Everyone that knows me knows I hate politics with a passion.  I hate the far left, and I hate the far right.  Why shouldn't I be able to say Trump did this wrong and this right without having to answer to loyal haters or loyal followers?  Why can't he be right sometimes and just plain wrong others?  I didn't care much for my governor before all of this happened but he is doing, at least I feel, an A+ job during this crisis.

I have so many values that reach across both party lines that it's impossible for me to be "brand loyal" to any party or politician.  Anyone who tells me they believe in everything Trump says and does is a phony.  Anyone who says they disagree with everything Trump says and does is a phony.  You are simply basing everything you believe in on what he says or does----not thinking for yourself.   You have to disagree with at least something every politician says or does or you are a fake.  You have to at least agree with something every politician says or you are also a fake.

So, Stan, I'm sure you and I don't agree on every political aspect, but who cares?  I don't think you're a dumbass for stating your beliefs at all.  And, I am upset that saying how any of us feels automatically becomes politics rather than our actual view on a situation.

So---I'll spell it out---just my opinion.  Trump (R)was handling the economy great up until this crisis.  I thought his trade war was going to blow up in his face and I was wrong.  I thought he has been handling foreign policy to my liking.  I don't care for his tweets.  I think he caused big problems by under-stating the severity of this virus crisis.  I thought he has done a pretty good job since he started taking it seriously.  He is going to make a decision soon to try to return to "normal."  The verdict is still out on how he will handle that and how it will turn out.  I'm not going to say he's wrong or right as the eventual outcome will judge him for that. My governor---J.B. Pritzker (D)--is not my favorite guy in the world.  He's a nice guy but wants to give every dime of my tax dollar to those who don't do crap.  But, he has handled this crisis fantastically I think.

See how I did that.  I don't blindly follow a politician based on what I think of him.  I don't let his reputation precede him.  I judge him on every decision and agree or disagree on each and every point----not just an undying support or hate.

If we did more of this, our country wouldn't suck so bad right now.

I'm pretty much the same as you politically so either I didn't word my comments correctly or you read something into them.  Cool down, I'm not the enemy.

I hate to be that guy, but no you didn't. While they traced back the first case to sometime in mid-November, it wasn't until late December around the holidays when China started discovering an outbreak of a pneumonia type disease (Dec 31 is when they confirmed to the World Health Organization) And it was early January when it was discovered to be a novel coronavirus. So unless you were boots on the ground in a Wuhan hospital in December, you were not calling attention to it until January at the earliest
