I don't agree with anything you have said, non malicously. I don't know what your expectations are but you do not have to sleep in a tent with no air conditioner, eat subway, or shower with a hose so that right there kind of blows my mind. Do you make arrangements at the last minute and never come out of your tent? What are your expectations, do you need a hotel within a few miles of the track with 4 star resturants at every corner, in a city with access to everything?
I only ask because I first went to the Nationals in 2017. I bought my tickets in late April, went online and found a hotel in Newton about 30miles away at a Days Inn at a resonable price around $400 for Weds-Sunday morning. We rented a car here in Ohio and drove, the following year we made arrangements to fly and got a rental car very easy in January/Febuary along with a hotel. Have stayed in Oskaloosa and Grinnell and the drive is not that bad. Each hotel was clean, was able to get back within 30-45mins after the event, felt safe, could shower, and have had no issues. Being at Knoxville, there is a food everywhere you turn and you do not have to eat subway. Rib Shack is one of my favorites, rotary club has a cook out, several food trucks and trailers on the concourse, plus a grocery store literally across the street that serves food. Down the street a couple miles away there is McDonalds, Hardees, walmart, etc. I gain almost 10lbs every year going there because I eat so much.
I think your expectations are a little high and are on the same level of maybe the superbowl in a major city. Most race events I have gone to, I have had to drive at least 20-30mins to get to the location after staying at a hotel. The rates for the hotel really are not that bad. There are Nascar venues that have worst locations (Pocono, Bristol, Michigan, etc) and others. Its a race location which a lot are in the middle of no where which in a lot of cases adds to the experience of the whole thing. There is something about going to a town that no one really knows about and tripling/quadrupling the town population for a weekend. When you tell most people I'm going to the Knoxville Nationals they say oh is that in Tenn? No, Iowa. Unless you wait until the last minute, you are able to find affordable accommidations with no real issues. The event has not outgrown the city and the city does a damn good job with the event. I have been to other big mainstream events in cities that do not do a 10th of the job that Knoxville does. It doesn't need to be moved from Knoxville, I think some better planning just needs to be done by some of the spectators to get their accomidations

Please make sure they don't do it in Milwaukee on the same weekends they have the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the Daytona 500 and the Alaska Fur Rendezvous there.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA This is the dumbest idea I have heard in long time, move the nationals. Eldora is in the middle or now where, we should move that whole track to Atlanta. lol I really hope the person that posted this isn't serious.

Who goes to Knoxville during the Nationals (or any time of year) and decides that Subway is the best culinary option?
Honestly, if that is the best you can find.....you are not trying hard enough.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Eldora in the middle of nowhere? I don't know since I've never been there, but are there tons of restaurants and hotels around Eldora? If not, then maybe the Kings Royal should be moved to a more "convenient" facility too if we use Rotorglow's logic.
The big events we have in sprint car racing now are big for their own reasons. Move any of them and it'll never be the same or as good as it is now. I go to the Nationals every year and love going to Knoxville and just really enjoy being in Iowa. Move it somewhere else and I probably don't go any longer.

Eldora is WAY more isolated than Knoxville!

A) Plenty of motels in Des Moines
B) For a small town, Knoxville has decent selection of restaurants, & food at the track is pretty good too
C) Its right in the middle of the country, fair to teams traveling from all over the USA
D) You can take showers, swim, work out, shoot hoops etc. at the town Rec Center
E) Its cool to see a small town completely swarming with sprint car fans
F) As somebody mentioned, THEY STARTED IT! Its KNOXVILLE Nationals
G) If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!!! (I wonder if someone is gonna call me on this for my opinions about their format???)

Dude. I know you asked to keep the insults to a minimum but please put the crack pipe down. Are you the same guy that posted on IOW about combining all 4 national series? I'm not sure which idea is sillier.
it's been a long winter. Normalcy shall return soon.

I don't think its the same guy, that one goes by "Nodoors"
Rotorglow gets my respect for having the balls to voice an unpopular (& ridiculous?) opinion, & folks here have been pretty good about keeping the replies good natured.... Wisecracks & putdowns, but not mean spirited insults
But really.....

There are some really funny replies to that suggestion on IOW, which is usually more respectful that HH
Check it out, folks....

911: what’s your emergency?
Me: we are with someone we think may have fallen and hit his head?
911: what are his symptoms ?
Me: He is talking about things that are really off the wall and making no sense what so ever!
911: we will dispatch some help to your location now! From your description, he either has a head injury or he’s a democrat? Either way sounds like he needs some attention!?

Plenty of rooms within a hour of Eldora... I stay in Troy and run the back roads 40 minutes away... Comfort Inn with a huge parking lot... Some of the race teams are there... You got Dayton a little farther south and to the west, Richmond Indiana...
Agreed, Knoxville Nationals need to stay where they are... Beautiful dirt...

You can't get much worse track surface in August then in Charlotte... Lock Down Dry Slick Flat Tire City last May with the Southern Heat... Could you imagine it in August?... All the top guys were getting flats there in May 2019, I can't think of a worse race that I watched on Dirt Vision...

Indiana Open Wheel. As you might guess it's a forum (a good one) primarily dedicated to non wing sprint cars. And some clown who has less than 25 posts comes on and makes some rediculous suggest about combining all major sprint car series. And gets mad when folks tell him so. Head on over for a visit
