Tim Schaffer is the guy they should put in the car. im surprised no one has given him a full time outlaw ride. Hes better than most and i bet he would be top 5 in points at the end of the season

He has certainly dropped off a bit, not sure I'd say quite a bit though.  He did start on the pole of the King's Royale and finish the race 6th. Not too bad for an old guy who has dropped off.  Heck of a lot of good, young drivers finished behind him that night.  In the right situation, with a good car, he can still get it done.  Is he like Sammy of the 80's?? Of course not but I'd never count him out.  He's only two years removed from a multiple 410 win year.

I have to agree with dsc on this one.  I am not a Sammy hater----I actually enjoy watching him run-----but he has fallen off a lot in the last few years.  He had his "rebirth" in 2009-2013 or so.   When he filled in for Jason, that was 5 years ago.  And, I don't remember spectacular results back then either.  Servicable?  Yes.  But, 5 years ago.

If I were chasing owner's points, as much as I would LOVE to see Sammy in the car, I would not put him in the car for every race David misses.

JMO though

if Gravel is only going to be gone 8 races , i would have no problem putting Sammy in. im not saying he's going to win any races but i bet he will be top 10. i would prefer Schaffer though, and i think he would be cheaper to pay

Obviously theres better options out there but Shaffer (and others like him) might have full time or other commitments by the time its decided what races Gravel will miss. Swindell has run hit and miss each of the past few seasons so thats the only reason I'm entertaining it.

Now that PPM has teamed up with Dietz for a partial schedule could it be a natural fit for him to fill in?

I was thinking the same thing.   I was also thinking that this will be like Shark racing with both the 14 and 41 running out of the same hauler.   Which would make having PPM run the "make up" dates even easier.   It wouls also be an incentive for PPM to do the "make up" dates if he had a ride for all of the big money races in the 14.

The king, Steve kinser, knew it was time to hang the helmet up. He just could no longer keep up. Yes, he had back issues.  But he also understood time in all areas passed him by. I don't know what the deal is with Sammy, he's a far far cry from what he was. Maybe it's a mindset were he thinks he can still do it, maybe it's a deal were he needs the $$$. All I see is him running sa 360 in lucas shows and not being able to be a consistent top 5 finisher. He's forgot what most of those 360 guys think they no. Yet he can't compete. Stay home sammy, quit disappointing people.

LOL! Stupid comment. But one that is not surprising given the author.

Kinser was crowned "The King" long ago & probably is satisfied with his career. I suspect Sammy feels like he still has something to prove.

Plus, driving a sprint car is what he does best of anything... gave him his living, $$$ & self esteem. Hard to give that kind of thing up....

There will be a separate hauler.
