It is very rare that you see great racing when the track is hammer down. Im not saying it never happens, but is the case most of the time. Dry/Slick is where its at. It takes a team effort when its that way. Good set-up and good driver.

I am not saying that at all.  When it is wet at the beginning of the night it will naturally dry out as the night goes on.  During the summer months is when you need to add a lot more water to your racing surface or it will be horrible for the features.   I have been saying this for years and it is true....but nobody wants to admit it.  Not during the night during the week and work the water down in the surface.  The feature is where it is at and that is when the track should change the most from the beginning to the end of the race.  Your track needs to be at its best during the feature...not during the heats or after the feature is over.

At some tracks it is so wet for the first warmups that they have to bring those cars back out.  It is never good when you get to the feature and your track is already used up and that is happening a lot lately....nobody wants to see that.  When it is too dry it is follow me leader and very boring.

I did track prep for our local grass root track for years. If we watered the track Wed and Thursday and Friday we had good surfaces for Sat afternoon. If we skipped a week day watering you knew it half way thru the Sat program.

We also bought some anti dust stuff that seemed to help hold the moisture in longer. One of our drivers was a chemist type guy so he broke it down and discovered it was basically liquid type so we went to the local food store and bought a truck load of laundry detergent. It turned your tires blue but gave us a great surface.

Do any if this top end famous tracks add anything to their water.?

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

It is Humpy Wheeler, the guy would try to sell you a seat in the electric chair if he thought he could make a buck on it.  He is also the guy who wanted to put starters and fenders on sprint cars.  I'm pretty sure if you look up the word shameless in the dictionary it has a picture of Humpy.

Now that's worth repeating!

The Outlaws should be in Central PA for Memorial Day weekend- like they were for, what?, 25+ years.

But, that said, the involvement of NAPCAR types doesn't hurt. Though I doubt having or not having a race in Charlotte would make or break a deal.

You can have it wet at the beginning of the night and it not being a rutfest.  I do however hate and I mean hate if the track is used up before the feature is pushed off.  I have seen that way too much in the last couple of years!

Last night at Port Royal is a prime example.  I have heard a million times from the powers to be at the Port you can't have a great race when it is wet.   Well,  see last night and last years Tuscarrora 50 with the outlaws.   Both great features and both had wetter than there normal track.

Yeah... ...we're not talking about Port Royal here.  The clay at Charlotte is different than the clay at Port, I have never seen it hold moisture throughout the night unless it was holding so much moisture that it isgoing to get rough.  I know other tracks that are the same way, no happy medium.  The different surfaces all react differently.  If you love wet racetracks so much, why don't you move to California?  Petaluma gets tackier throughout the night at least half the time.

I am talking in general.  I have seen better racing on tracks that start the night out heavy and wet and by the feature the track is perfect for racing.  When tracks have multiple divisions on one night that is when this needs to be this way. If not you will have asphalt racing in the features.  Lets not forget about the summertime heat that takes it toll on a dirt track.   Don't care about the heats...never have never will.  Drivers don't get paid for the heats either.

I am there to see the feature.  I can't ever remember me saying to anyone those heats were great last night.  Nobody cares who wins the heats.  They do however remember who wins the feature.

I have seen many of races that the feature was less than desirable because of it being way to black and dry....follow me leader and slow is very, very boring.   The drivers during the feature need to be able to get a hold of the track and not slip and slide all over the place.   Some tracks have it figured out and others will continue to be boring as watching grass grow.

You gotta quit throwing that nobody word around. I care about qualifying, especially watching the Outlaws and getting a chance to possibly hear a QUICKTIMEEEEEE out of Johnny G. I care about the heats, especially since in most formats your heat finish qualifies you for a redraw or a dash spot which starts you up front. You might be right about "nobody cares who wins the heats" but i can garuntee people care who finishes up front in the heats.

As far as track conditions you said "the drivers need to be able to get ahold of the track and not slip and slide all over the place." It is the crew cheif and drivers responsibilty to make thier car faster than the other 23 out there. Lets not act like you can't make adjustments on these cars to compensate for track conditions .... everyone races on the same surface, you gotta make what other people struggle with work to your advantage.

No, I have talked to people that used to go the the races a lot and now they either don't go anymore or go everyonce in a while.  Why is that you ask.....track conditions.  Nobody wants to see a track that is hard, black, and dry before the features start.

Yes, it is the crew cheif and drivers responsibility to get a grip on the track unless there is nothing to grip onto.....Hard, black, and dry before the feature rolls out and you can almost bet the racing will be subpar.  The crew cheifs and drivers can only do so much if the track doesn't hold up at all.  I have seen too many tracks that are worn out before the feature rolls out on the track.

Fucking Rain Man is less consistent than you! You passed Altman and Nelligan about 50 laps ago. Congratulations! You deserve a vacation for your well earned victory.....

  • I speak the truth.  I am not going to apologize for anything I said on here.  Anyone watching this joke of a race from Nashville?  Track has been junk all night. They need to be introduced to the water truck.  This reminds me of a track I used to go to......
