Yep. He's entered in the 3s car.

There's no "ruling."  Drivers/Teams switch all the time right up until the day before qualifying and Knoxville tries to accomodate where they can.  This is far enough in advance that it's not an issue.  Every year it seems I sit down to watch Qualifying Night #1 and a guy listed isn't running, then I see a social post saying they switched nights.  Or a guy that was supposed to run on Night 2 is running Night 1.

Just feels like there's a way better way to go about this. Maybe offer the owner a chance to request separate nights when they enter.

Something doesn't feel right about being able to see the fields and then make a change.

Meh, not that big a deal at least IMO.  Other guys do it all the time (for a variety of reasons - travel, work on cars, issues, etc.).  I think someone else has already changed days (can't remember who).  It happens.  Don't think this was one of those cases where he waited to look at the field and then tried to "select" the "easier night."  There's no "easier night" at Nats.  Gotta beat the best on the best track in the world.  Too many factors to try and control going against the "easier" field.

Probably all the Whining going on! He seems like a guy that aims to please the fans so maybe he withdrew to not cause hard feelings. I certainly hope this is not the case because I was looking forward to seeing him.

Sure hope he isn't swayed by the whining. There's a difference between liking to please the fans & being a pushover.
I bet most fans would like to see him race, if only qualifying nite....

Suppose he wins Qualifying nite & skips Saturday? that would create a huge "what if" situation that would build up the legend until the day he finally quits NASCRAP

Or maybe wins Qual Nite & tells NASCAR to shove it (I know, HIGHLY unlikely!)

I agree. Thursday looks stacked to me. The only guys that can truly compete with Schatz on Friday are Shane Stewart and Brad Sweet. I don't think anyone else has shown the speed necessary to take those three on, but I'm sure there'll be some surprising runs in there.

Thursday you've got Brian Brown, Jason Johnson, Daryn Pitman, Kerry Madsen, Ian Madsen, David Gravel, Rico Abreu, Terry McCarl, and Jamie Veal who have all got a solid chance of contending for a prelim victory.

I think Schuchart is The Dark Horse that nite. He steadily keeps getting better & better....

True! But I don't know if Schuhart would have a strong enough motor for a big track like Knoxville. The first night of the Outlaw shows at Knoxville this year, he qualified 19th (out of 21 cars in his group), finished 7th in his heat won the C and finished 5th in the B. On the second night he did much better, he timed in 2nd, won his heat, started 5th in the dash and finished 6th, and finished 7th in the A. If he can time like he did on the second night then he'll set himself up early for a good night, but the 8 car invert in the heat could hurt him.

I would absolutely love to see both of Bobby's boys have a good run at the Nationals though. Every year they get better and better and Schuhart has become a contender for wins, but I think most of his wins have been on shorter tracks.

Definitely. When I made that original post, Kerry was signed in for Thursday night. I'm thinking/hoping some of the Knoxville locals will have some strong runs on Wednesday and can put some cars in the A on Saturday. Austin McCarl Lynton Jeffrey, Lasoski, and Kerry Madsen have all been fast this year. Heskin has had a tough year, but he's showed some speed in the last week or two. We've also got Zomer back in the BWW 82, which has been a fast combo in the past.

I believe the entry form you can request a specific night and the track tries to abide by everyone's wishes.  I believe Knoxville and WoO teams are divided up by their point standings at a certain date in the year (or they used to be).

Sometimes adjustments have to be made (like a guy that destroys a car on Monday night at the FRC.  They've allowed them to change dates from Wednesday to Thursday in the past to give them an extra day to prepare and heal up from bangs and bruises for the driver.

There is no perfect system when it comes to splitting qualifying nights.  I believe the goal is to make them both as even as possible when it comes to competition, but generally the track is narrower on Wednesday night so a lot of teams request Thursday night for that reason alone.

Just edited the original post with a new update on the list. Chad Trout and Kevin Ingle have withdrew their entries. Lasoski has changed cars from the 33 to the Mark Burch 1m. Sam Hafertepe Jr, Brent Marks, and Jordyn Brazier have filed entries for Thursday. That's 99 entries so far.

While listening to the ASCS live stream last night, Harli White mentioned that she is running the 360 Nationals and staying around for the 410 Nationals.  Also, Jack Dover had something the other day that he was planning to run both.  Haven't seen either of them officially listed yet tho.

Saw Harli was looking for a 410 to rent...

If it doesn't run any better than it did Saturday night, no one would be my guess.

I postulated on another thread that maybe they'll see how things go with Thomas and if all goes well offer/give him the seat for 410 Nats.  He posted that he has entered the 410 Nats "in the family 21k at this time" so the door is open from that end.  If it doesn't go well (like this weekend) they don't enter.

I still wish they would go back to "Old School" with the full 10 car invert.... That's how they had to do it for years.

IMO I think he is faster his own equip just because of familiarity. Hopefully theyll figure it out and he can be fast in the 1 car. That car has made the big show before.
