Truthfully I was wondering too...OH Speedweek was (I believe) the first speedweek and is probably the most storied out there. Every year some of the best drivers come to compete from around the country. Makes it super fun.

Wisconsin.  Never paid attention to anything away from my home tracks or series.  Went to Indiana Sprint Weeks with some buddies last year and just started paying attention. Plus, travel is difficult so Ohio and or PA is just a tad farther than I'd like to go.  Answer your question?

Yea, anything that requires more than a days drive can be tough. I try to find races that fit my travel schedule. I been wanting  to do Indiana Speedweek for a while but it would be a special trip from East Coast, no way I could leave in the AM & watch races the same nite

Me 3...I was also wondering who hasn't heard of Ohio Speedweek, being arguably the OG and most well known Speedweek...but then again we each have our own worlds so it's really not a huge deal the OP hasn't heard of it.  But I was, truth be told, also curious.

I hope to make it WI one day for a few races (IRA)...MadDog or maybe StanM, what WI tracks are "must see."  I bet Angell Park during Corn Fest is awesome.

Exactly, that is basically what I was saying.  I got some good info and hopefully I can use it this or next year.  I am facing hip replacement so I am not sure if I can plan anything this year.  I might just have to stay local.

Angell Park is good, athough I have not been there for Corn Fest.  To me, that would get in the way of tailgating and camping as the parking lots are full.  My home track is Wilmot but I would not classify it as must see. It is the original HOME of the IRA so maybe in that respect, it is a must see.   Beaver Dam is a nice facility.  If you like motor strain, Dodge County is a half mile. Lots of speed but I'd argue that the racing is 'that' good. Larryitis will be able to help you on some of the other tracks, or Stealth87

Thanks MadDog. When the WoO-IRA co-sanction was at Angell Park last year it was good racing from the highlights and DirtVision replay. I have heard Beaver Dam is nice. More of  3/8ish track kind of guy (unless we're talking Knoxville).

yep, I hope you can enjoy some shows during speedweek, I've made a few over the years.  Waynesfield is a must see!!!  Look up the race from a few years ago on youtube where Larson and Sweet put on a blistering pace at Waynesfield, it's a damn good fast race!

do it in the dirt

Slightly off subject, but a cool thing to see in Ohio is  Bicycle Museum of America (or something like that) in New Bremen, maybe a half hr. or so from Eldora. I stumbled upon it by chance, thought "OK old bikes, this might be interesting"... but it wasn't just interesting, it was astounding. They were making bikes that looked like modern ones by the 1890s, but still making all sorts of crazy variations that blow you away. Made me long for "the good ole days" when guys in shops all over the USA were dreaming up wild mechanical contraptions (similar to "run whatcha brung, homebuilt racing)

I went back with my camera a second time....

Like this one, 1879

Big wheel was the driving wheel, 2 little wheels on the side steered, in opposite directions like some fork lifts. Rider steered with the little handle....

+1 on the Waynesfield AS SW shows. Last years race with little Haud and Larson was awesome as well. Must see!

I grew up in northeast Ohio and had a lot of family in the Canton-Massillon area and even went to Kent State for a couple of semesters in '59-'60 before I moved out west.  Kent was a nice little town and Kent State was a nice school although I still, to this day, get asked about the shootings there though that was long after my time there.

As several others have pointed out Ohio Speed Week was the original and I took my young family back there in '83 to Canton to meet relatives they had never met.  Coincidentally( though the ex wouldn't agree) it was during Speed Week and we did hit 4 or 5 of them.  Over 33 years later the son & I are still racing together though we're in stock cars and not sprints.
