Really? A half-mile is little too big for sprint cars. I can't imagine how strung out they must have been on a mile. I think Pauch is retired from racing altogether now. Not sure what his son is doing. He's had 410 and 358 sprint rides at Lincoln the last couple years as well as his normal modified gigs in NJ and eastern PA.

Zemco Sprinter Billy Puch 2016

This is the Picture of Billy Pauch and the Reunion for him and the Car in 2016.  He had problems with the seat, and gas/brake pedals fitting him.  The Car was set up for Lucas Wolf (Who is the Main Driver of this storied car)

Billy due to not being abe to get comfortabe parked it during his heat.  He didnt expect to driv on this night, but Freddie Rahmer at the last minute set it up for him to drive it

Sammy broke the speed record at a different track...but we all know each "mile" or "half mile" are not the same size...Eldora falls a good 500 feet short...

http://www.theautochannel.com/news/date/19980608/news013261.html

~~ Fifteen of the 24 cars in Sunday's event ran laps faster than the previous single-lap record at "The Springfield Mile." The fastest was Sammy Swindell, who chopped 1.147 seconds off the single-lap record he set at Illinois State Fair Speedway last June 8th. His 24.719-second, 145.637-m.p.h. lap broke the world record for speed on a one-mile oval, eclipsing the standard Billy Pauch set at New York State Fair Speedway on October 8, 1994, by .106 seconds. Swindell received his third Vivarin Dash award of the year for his historic effort. ~~

Lincoln 1845 ft/.35 mile T1=118MPH
Eldora 2287 ft/.43mile T3=135MPH
Port 2716 ft/.51 mile T3=TBD
Grove 2792 ft/.53 mile T3=135MPH
Selinsgrove 2847 ft/.54 mile T1=136MPH

More random gibberish:

Billy the Kid was a Gasser's gasser! He could wheel ANYTHING he strapped into!

It's just simply a shame that the Moody Mile is gone.

Winged Sprint Cars on that narrow mile were downright sit on the edge of your seat scary. It's a wonder the driver's cahonies made it into the seat, let alone the rest his body! I was a nervous wreck for  30 laps (and 40, i think) and I was just watching from the comfort of the grandstands.

As much as I hate what the state did to Syracuse, the stuff going on a CNYRP is not the state's fault.  As good as a promoter as Donnelly once was, he has a bit of the snake oil salesman in him to.  There was no way, even with the state money that that track was going to be ready this Fall, and apparently a number of the other investors dried up.  The state actually seems to have made a good decision of not pouring the money down a black hole until they get some certainty that it won't stay a black hole.  The state is also footing a good portion of the bill on getting things Super Dirt week ready in Oswego.   Again, I am not a fan of the state government or what they did to the fairgrounds, but I doubt its even a 50/50 proposition that CNYRP ever gets finished.

I was looking at the Oswego speedway on the super dirt week web site are they going to have room for all the haulers? And will they have enough camping sites?

That would be some MSPN misinformation. Pauch's world record on the Syracuse Mile of 24,889 seconds in 1994 was never broken. Pauch broke Sammy Swindell;s Syracuse track record, not the other way around.

http://racing.ap.org/lewistownsentinel/article/syracuses-moody-mile-hosts-its-final-stock-car-race

It is just awful what the state did to a place that hosted auto racing events for 112 years. Then to top it all off, the state did not even hold up its end of the bargain with regard to providing the money promised to build the new track (Central New York Raceway Park) to host Super DIRT Week this year.

The history of American auto racing passed through the Syracuse Mile over those 112 years. It was where 1922 Indy 500 winner Jimmy Murphy met his untimely end two years after winning Indy and hosted dozens of Indy 500 competitors in the decades that followed.

Don't tell me I was right again.  Thanks to Mark aka BRR another big Sammy fan for bringing this to everyone's attention.  I covered a few miles at Springfield, around this time.  I do remember Andy Hillenburg won the last mile race I was at there because I said I would streak the place if he did, still haven't, my bad!  They raced at Springfield, the Indy Mile and Syracuse another mile track and the NARC guys raced at Sacremento another mile track, I think my Mate Peter Murphy might have won out there.

Sorry about your name non-truth teller, what will you be changing it to?

iWOW --- I never knew Sammy did that --- For an Old man Sammy can still drive and if anyone was going to break it Im glad Sammy Swindell was the on He is one of my favorite Srint car Drivers and is arguabely a TOP 3 In the Series.  This is something that many people thought could nover be achieved.  Good for Sammy, may he drive for another 5 - 10 years .  I think 10 years is a stretch though

You have to admit it though Pauch's record lasted a Very Long time.  With Engine Technology so much better now than it was in 1994, for Billy to have achieved what he did was nothing less than spectacular.  Even though its not his anymore for the time he did that it was 99.9 percent impossible.   It should NEVER be looked upon as something that wasnt a big deal so to speak

Both Pauch's still race.  Sr. runs a modified at new Egypt weekly and a division called Speedstrs as Kutztown PA on Wed.  He runs some select shows with the mod at other tracks.  He's been dqed twice this year.  Once by WRG after dirtcar nationals tor tire softener and once at new Egypt...for I forget what.  Jr runs mods at big diamond pa and new Egypt and runs speedstrs and 600 micros at Kutztown.

Charge it to the Mike Nelligan legend in his own mind account...it is a tab from last century that will never get paid up to date anyway.

Patch set the record in the fall of 1994 and Sammy set the new record in summer of 1998...so Pauch held it for about 4 years.

There is a HUGE DIFFERENCE between Pavement and Dirt.  Its like comparing Apples to Oranges so I really have no idea what this has to do with a "DIRT TRACK WORLD RECORD"

I dont think Pauch was caught Cheating twice -- I do know he had bad fuel at new Egypt this year,  It wasnt really done on pourpose.  The track officials even said that the fuel was fuel from another track mixed with the event fuel.  There was absolutely nothing in the fuel that would enhance the performance of the engine.

When checking fuel after a race ALL TRACKS use the Track Fuel from that nights event.  It just so happens Billy Had fuel from another nights event in his tank and it got mixed with that Nights fuel.  Pauch after he was told about it said and I quote "The rules are the rules" It was not anything done with malice or advantage, In fact the fuel would have been legal 1 week earlier.

As far as tire softning NEVER Heard of that one, if that is true (and I doubt it is) there is an old saying in Stock Car Racing "The Best Cheater Wins"  Nuff Said

pauch was also caught "cheating" (if you want to refer to it as that) at NES by having his bolt on weight in an improper location which, basically, raised his left side weight %. it was a very minor infraction but rules is rules.

Ask anyone who races dirt cars ANYONE -- If you arent "bending the rules" otherwise known as cheating you arent winning.  the best winners are the cheaters who dont get caught and that is a fact

For example alot of guys will drill a hole nest to the Spark plug so when the tech's inspect the engine for CID with air the hole allows air to escape and make it appear it is within in Spec.  After the techs approve the engine they put a Washer ovet the hole and install the Spark Plug no more leak bigger CID

Didn't they put out a t shirt with the record on it?   Seems to me I have one stashed away and would take a while to to find. Hey.....that's something to do today!
