The truth of the matter is Vegas would give Schatz 3 to 1 odds at best against 100 other race teams.

No need to be intimidated by him this year.

Lasoski and Sammy are waiting for him. So are 20 other race teams.

Sorry, but all these "what ifs" & "might be's" are just that. Hoping & wishing. Fact is that Sammy in 2010 was the only car that had anything for him the last decade. Schatz has to break (unlikely as he has best equipment), make a mistake (almost as unlikely) or just have plain old bad luck not to win. It would be a Hell of an event if #15 disappeared but he's not so 2016 will be another repeat unless one of the three unlikely events above take place. Until his team or skills fade or somebody steps up their game to his level, Schatz is winning in Knoxville in August. And judging by what has happened lately, neither of those things are happening either. If Vegas were laying odds it'd be Schatz at 3:5 or better. It would be foolish to pay out plus-money on as close to a sure thing as there is in sports today.

Anybody but Donny?

Hope Rico shows up.

Why, so he can do a "start and park"? A better question is "Who will run 2nd?"

Not sure I'd go that far. Meyers had him in pretty bad shape in 2008 until Tyler Walker decided not to pull into the infield. Also, Saldana was battling him tough when he lost a nose wing panel in 09.

Schatz has had some absolutely dominating performances throughout the last decade - nothing to doubt about it. There's a lot of truth to your statement, but I'd disagree with the point that 2010 Sammy is the only car to have something for him.

All it takes is an engine part failure ,a tire,or a liitle bad luck and things might change.Wouldnt it be nice to see a small lower budget team win it.The money isnt important to teams with Nascar or other great sponsers. They still talk about Scruffys win and although Schatz is the favorite there are many teams with great equiptment that are capable of winning.Domination isnt good for any sport.

Problem is, except for the last 2 laps in 2010, he hasn't had one of those failures. Again, Schatz is the total package and at this point the only way he loses it is if he loses it. Nobody seems to be in position to take it from him. Someday it'll happen but someday doesn't look like today. God, I'd love to see it but until I do there is only one man to beat at Knoxville and his name is Donny Schatz.

Okay I know I had a lot to drink this particular week but didn't Schatz blow an engine on his Qual night and then still come back and win the A-main on Saturday from the B main? The last thing I want to see is Schatz lose because of mechanical difficulties, I want to see him get beat because another driver was better.

Schatz is obviously the overwhelming favorite but my dark horse is Zomer.  He has been strong when he has ran Knoxville this year and has the $$ behind him to be fast.  I feel for Brown but luck has not been with him so far this year.  However, a Schatz-Brown showdown the last 10 laps would be great to watch.

Would love to see Rico run, but only if he intends to run the main.

Everything Nascar related is off that week I believe..if hes' there and makes it, he'll run.

Schatz's underachievments this year include the WoO points lead, most wins, and a 2nd and 1st place finish at Knoxville.

exactly....

I keep thinking every year he will have a flat tire, get into a crash or something. I dont hate the guy at all, hes awful good but its time somebody else wins it. Saldana, Larson, Sweet look like they are strong but Brown, K. Madsen and McCarl can run with the best of them. The sleeper of this year is Dollansky. He knows Knoxville just as good as anybody.

Nah, any of those mishaps would be unsatisfying. Like Paintboss, I would like to see him get beat straight up, fair & square, with an intact & fully functional car.

I don't root for my opponents to get injured in "stick & ball sports" either

I don't think anyone has said Schatz has underachieved.  He hasn't been as dominant this year.  He is still the guy to beat night in and night out, but that competition is inching a tad bit closer than they were at this point last year.

Nobody understands 50 laps at Knoxville better than Schatz.  No other races during the season can compare.  McCarl looked really good against him in WoO Friday night, but that was only half the race Nationals is.  Not sure he could have kept it up another 25 if he had to.  I thin k the only way Schatz loses is with a bad restart with less than 5 laps to go.

Same here. I actually like Schatz. I think he's a good clean racer who often times passes a lot of cars and gives the fans their money's worth. I'd like to see someone else win Knoxville though. Especially Sammy, Henderson, Brian Brown, Terry McCarl or any other Knoxville regular. It would be so cool to see the hometown crowd get the chance to cheer one of their own home to the biggest victory in sprint car racing.
