Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series

VENTURA HOSTS USAC/CRA $5,000-TO-WIN “ALL COAST CHALLENGE” THIS SATURDAY

MAY 6, 2015... This Saturday, May 9th, the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series will travel to Jim Naylor’s Ventura Raceway for the highly anticipated “All Coast Challenge.” The special event will be capped off with a $5,000-to-win, $500-to-start, 40-lap main event. The Pit Gates will open at Noon, the Front Gates will open at 3:00pm, with Racing scheduled for 5:30pm at “The Best Little Dirt Track In America.”

A special thanks goes out to “Big” Mike Grosswendt and All Coast Construction for their support of the event. Mike has been a major supporter of Sprint Car racing on the West Coast for several years and his contributions are appreciated very much. Woodland Auto Display and Jimbo McCoskey have also bolstered the race and over 50 racers have entered the “All Coast Challenge.” In addition to the USAC/CRA contingencies, the fast qualifier will earn $500, the hard charger will take home $500, the winner will get $5,000 and a custom surfboard, second will pocket $2,500, and third will earn $1,250. The action packed 40-lap main event will pay $500-to-start.

NOTICE TO USAC/CRA COMPETITORS: The Hoosier 105/16 Medium is the ONLY legal right rear tire and all four corners must be Hoosier tires. The Hoosier 105/16 Medium is also the current legal tire with the USAC West Coast, USAC SouthWest, and VRA Sprint Cars. Cars must pass a tech inspection and one-way radios are mandatory for drivers. USAC/CRA charges a $25 entry fee to all competitors and the series rule book can be found online at www.usacracing.com.

Ventura Raceway has a strict 95db at 100 feet state mandated sound rule and track legal mufflers are Extreme Mufflers (Part #6014-3535 180 Degree, Part #3615-3535), Coast Fabrication (350x625x17-2sVRA), Spintech (180 Degree, 1545P Super Stock Series), B&B Performance (FRAC-0375-S, 180 Degree, with side outlet), Flowmaster (Hushpower, Suitcase- Part 53545-USAC.) The Flowmaster “Suitcase” is also the legal muffler for Watsonville’s Ocean Speedway, Petaluma Speedway, and Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway.

Saturday’s “All Coast Challenge” will mark the 17th appearance of the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. “The Ripper” Rip Williams claimed the inaugural Ventura USAC/CRA main event on May 22, 2004 on his way to the championship. Since then, nine drivers have earned victories and “The Kruser” Cory Kruseman leads all racers with six wins. Last season, “The Demon” Damion Gardner led all 30-laps at Ventura to score one of his eleven triumphs. “The Bullet” Blake Miller holds the 1-lap series record of 11.675, set on October 28, 2008. Ventura’s all-time 410 non-winged track record of 11.527 was posted on October 1, 1994 by “The Flying Shoe” Ron Shuman.

Heading to the “All Coast Challenge,” Concord, California’s “The Demon” Damion Gardner has an eleven point advantage over the competition. Racing Mark Alexander's #4 Scott Sales Company / Weld Racing Spike, Gardner won his second feature of the year last Saturday at Perris. To date, the defending champion has three heat race victories, five top-10 finishes, and 35 feature laps led. “The World’s Fastest Sprint Car Driver” will be looking to extend his point lead and earn his series leading 60th win on Saturday.

Mike Spencer of Temecula, California ranks second in USAC/CRA point standings. Driving Ron Chaffin’s #50 Grubstake Mini Storage / Madera Produce Maxim, Spencer led ten laps at Perris before scoring third at the checkered flags. To date, the five-time champion has two Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Awards, one heat race victory, five top-10 finishes, and 17 feature laps led to his credit. At Ventura, Mike will have his sights on the $5,000 payday and claiming his 36th USAC/CRA triumph.

Yorba Linda, California’s Matt Mitchell is third in the chase for the championship. Piloting his #37 Campbell Bros. Storage / Pit Boss Jacks Maxim, Mitchell charged from thirteenth to finish sixth last Saturday night. At press time, the defending USAC West Coast Sprint Car Champion has two heat race victories, one Competition Suspension Inc. / Rod End Supply Semi-Main, five top-10 finishes, and 7 feature laps led. Currently tied with Levi Jones, Bud Kaeding, and Blake Miller for thirteenth on USAC/CRA’s win list, Matt will be looking for his 7th feature victory.

Austin Williams of Yorba Linda, California is tied for fourth in the point standings. Racing Jack Jory’s #2 John Jory Corporation / AMA Plastics Spike, Williams took fourth at Perris after starting seventh. Entering Saturday’s race, the 2009 Rookie of the Year has three top-10 finishes in the campaign. With three career USAC/CRA victories to his credit, Austin will have his sights on the $5,000 “All Coast Challenge” win.

After placing sixth last Saturday, Anaheim, California’s Jake Swanson has tied Austin Williams for fourth in the point chase. Driving Tom and Laurie Sertich’s #92 Huntington Beach Glass & Mirror / Ram-Bull Racing Victory, Swanson has two Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Awards and four top-10 finishes on the season. This Saturday, the 2012 Rookie of the Year will be looking for his first career USAC/CRA feature win at Ventura.

Currently tied for eleventh in points, “The Flying Peanut” Parker Colston of Lake Elsinore, California leads the chase for Rookie of the Year honors. Michael Curtis, Anthony Lopiccolo, and Tommy Malcolm are also in contention.
