I know Schatz pilots his own plane. Does anyone have pics of it?

Not being a jagoff at all, but are you serious?  Pics of the plane?  Does it matter to see pictures of the plane?  Now if you say you're a pilot also or "into" aviation, okay.  But otherwise what does it matter?

To answer your thread topic it depends on the team, the time of the year and the proximity of races to one another.  Some fly in and out for races/race weekends, some go the motorhome route.  But again it depends on the time of year.  Earlier in the season when kids, etc. may still be in school flying in and out is more popular.  Right now?  Mostly motorhomes, especially when souvenir trailers are being utilized during the height of summer.  Some (Schatz you mention) do fly in and out.  Sidenote, Donny will sometimes fly other drivers if it's to get home for something (family gathering, etc.).

What does it matter?  Nothing.  it doesn't matter.  But I liked the question, so thanks for answering it anyways.

Maybe I was a little harsh (not intended) but I also saw the thread title and thought, good question, then the thread post just asked for a pic of Schatz's plane so I thought the Thread Title = good question.  Thread post = weird.  Nonetheless good topic for discussion (the title, not the inquiry about plane pictures) Smile

I rack it up to curiosity. Would I start a thread, no, but if the picture was thrown up of his or Smoke's plane, I'dlook just to see how the other side lives.

Side question. How do drivers get paid, aside from direct deposit! Percentage of winnings or base salary and bonus? Percent of souvenirs?

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

Yeah really depends on the team and ownership.  Most is % of winning and most are right around 50/50.  50% to owner/team 50% to driver.  Souvenir sales if handle independently by the driver (which it usually is) is his $.  Those souvenir trailers, etc. are the drivers and they staff it (usually family members/friends) and handle merch themselves.  If for instance Daryn Pittman sells KKR Gear or KKR sells his gear via their website (they do not) then the percentage gets broken up, but generally speaking souvenir sales are handled by driver.  Travel expenses (for the driver not team and crew), etc. is a different note and it depends on the team.  Motorhomes, etc. are usually privately owned by drivers so they fit the gas, food, supplies money themselves.  I've seen some balance sheets that for the sake of "on paper" balancing use money earned from merch towards travel expenses, etc.  That's just one way to get things on paper and I'm sure it doens't always work out where merch sales directly funds travel/living, etc.  The team (say KKR or TSR or Larson Marks) may sometimes fly the driver in and out of certain races.
