TV just said "Promoter's Provisional" There are lots of other champions that have to race their way in or go home. So "champion" is not it.
It will be interesting to see how many who deserve the chance won't get it due to getting Sammy'd in the A. Instead of a chance to win, the'll end up with a wad of junk parts.

I would not be surprised if he isnt a factor in the finish.I will about guarantee he will have as many people watching his progress as the leaders. It is a long race and there will be cautions.Lady luck didnt smile on him this week but he is deserving of a champions provisional as that is what many fans come to see.Schatz proved that coming from the back makes more fans than starting from the pole.Kevin and Sammy have shown that they have had the place fiqured out we will see what he has got.People come to see the best and love him or not his record is speaks for itself.

Who gives a rat's ass? Sammy is great.....an all time great. I don't care if you like him or not, the fact is, he's not only a top 3 all time great in sprint car racing but he's taken home more Golden Drillers than anyone. When you do great things, people tend to do great things for you. That's how it is and he's earned it. I'm not a Sammy fan but he's deserving of such an honor for being to date, the greatest driver in the history of the Chili Bowl. I'd feel the same way if the World of Outlaws gave King Kinser a provisional every time he raced with them because if they're willing to hand out such an honor, no one deserves it more. I remember years back at Port Royal when they have Keith Kauffman a promoters provisional at the Tuscarora 50. Some people were really pissed about it but you know what? Kauffman has meant more to Port Royal Speedway than any driver has. He's won the most races and the most championships and he has the most fans therefore he puts more asses in those seats than anyone else. He deserved it and he EARNED it. Just like Sammy at the Chili Bowl.

Sammy didn't screw anyone out of racing. They would have started 24 guys, with Sammy and his provisional it was 25. Something about that you don't understand?

You can call it a joke because they put Sammy in the A if you like, but that racing wasn't a joke...

To be the best you have to beat the best and Rico did that.$14/15 million in total revenue is certainly no joke.Problem the drivers and owners didnt get it but they are still happy so everybody wins.

IMO there should be zero provisionals in racing period. Either race your way in or put it in the trailer and try again next time. Also IMO it's a slap in the face for the guys that busted their azz and raced and earned their way in.
I don't care if it's Joe Superstar or Larry The Local....

Promoters like to draw attention to their races and events. Seems like all you guys on here complaining just prove the fact that he picked the right guy for the provisional. Extra (and free) attention.

I am not a Sammy fan but the Chili Bowl has had a past champion provisional for several years. Sammy was the next past champion who was running in the event hence he got the provisional. I also agree provisionals suck but they followed past practice.

Sammy is the chili bowl. Contraversey follows him everywhere, Can u imagine who will be the next one to get trashed on when he retires permanently. 60 yrs old and still being able to make it happen is incredable, Get over it. By the way why doesnt Scahtz run this race, sure he is great with a wing on. Take the wing off and lets see what happens here. The Outlaw guys are great with a wing no doubt, but once the wing comes off its a new game for them, Sammy can do it one way or the other. A true outlaw racer.

Defending Champions provisional, not past champions provisional. In the three years that Kevin was the defending Champion, they didn't put Damion Gardner in as the last champion that didn't qualify.
