UPDATE #1 - FACT - (9-18-14 @ 9:30 am CST) - I got the information that I have been looking for regarding this new series.
The Midwest Outlaw Sprint Series is happening. The quote regarding the objective of the MOSS series "is to create a series that unites drivers/owners, all current Midwest series ie: IRA, MOWA, as well as promoters and race tracks." The goal is to bring a great group of teams together for a 30-40 race schedule. This new series WILL NOT compete against any series or track. The MOSS series wants to work with tracks and series to give 410 teams more opportunities to race and build 410 sprint car racing in this region.

This series will not be called MOSS. The name and many more details for this new series will be announced very soon so sit back and relax, let things develop and official announcements will be sent out very soon.

Or maybe Tod has decided to change the name. After all, when people say "the MOSS series" they are actualy saying the Midwest Outlaw Sprint Series series. Perhaps he looked at that and decided he needed to change it. Ibracin reported the "Facts" as they were at the time. Remember the World Racing Group has gone through many name changes also.

The PDF that I received explaining the new series the "Midwest Outlaw Sprint Series" was listed. WIth the first letters being capitalized, one could deduct that it would be called the MOSS series. Here is a sentence from that sheet that explained the series...."The Midwest Outlaw Sprints Series would work with race tracks and current organizations to attend scheduled current events while allowing promoters to put on additional events that don’t compete with any other series or other race events."
So, you can see where I got the MOSS.

I still don't see why a series would use the name "Outlaw". Once you're in the points chase, no longer an outlaw, right?

Wow, I was on the edge of my seat for a wwek waiting for the officail word on the new acronym. Actually I got the name MOSS about a week ago from a racing news site that posts rumors and updates the posts with "facts". I saw MOSS on there and took it to the bank. I guess I probably shouldn't trust that guy huh?
But seriously, they can call it whatever they want, I don't expect much to change up here around the Twin CIties north. Todd was involved with the Jerry Richert Sr. Memorial this past season and it was the same IRA show with a few Knoxville and NOSA cars it has always been. Everyone appreciated the increased purse but the race looked basically the same.
The reason I don't expect much to change is that only a couple tracks in this area book 410 races. I'm not talking the fall Deer Creek WoO show but our established Sprint specials within an hour of the Metro. Cedar Lake has the IRA for their annual Triple in May, it rained out this year but that race takes place on a Saturday night when Knoxville runs. They have their annual WoO show around the last Sunday in June or first Sunday in July depending on how the calendar falls. So far I'm not looking for the WoO to combine with other groups, they aren't in the habit of doing that. The only other Sprint shows are a weekly non-wing deal with limited motors and the UMSS winged 360's at a variety of tracks up here. The tracks that host the UMSS would most likely not risk a 410 special with a big payout, they're little out of the way places. The biggest shows they host are USMTS and WISSOTA Late Model specials. Most of the local promoters haven't been very favorable towards Sprints but a few have been booking 360 shows which they can do at a cost they can afford.
Unless tracks like Jackson and Deer Creek step forward (they're 3-4 hours south) and book some shows on other than their normal nights I don't we'll see much of this NST up this way. Nothing against Todd and what he has done for racing, I know Craig on a first name basis and Todd treated him well. We've even got family down in Windom on the wife's side so hey, I'm all for BGTS and their involvement in racing.
I'm just not jumping on the bandwagon and assuming that we'll see any local shows during the regular season. I can't assume that a bunch of weekend racers are going to quit their day jobs either. If they don't have the backing to race at more than one track now what would make me think they will in 2015. I've seen money thrown at new series in the Late Model and Modified ranks up this way and in the long run the racers who would follow a tour were the same ones as in the past. The fans who couldn't get off work and drive two hours to some race in the past are likely the same ones who won't do it in 2015. I'd love to be proved wrong but I've seen a lot of racing come and go over the years. They'll be perfect until their first misstep and then they'll be under scrutiny like what we have today.
If they come anywhere close I'll pack up the camera gear and note pad and run out and see a race or two. If they don't come anywhere near here we'll still have what we had and will not have lost anything.
