Don't have any pics but I'm about 6-6 and about 330 lbs. Shouldn't be hard to find me.

We ran with the All Stars in Williston and would like to say thank you to Rick Rogers, All Stars, and Williston Basin Speedway for coming together and putting on a doubleheader sprint show. When we first saw the dates of the races, we knew it was going to be an uphill battle for a good car count. As Chris Shirek said earlier, everyond has regular jobs that take precident over racing. I spoke to him and several other drivers leading up the All Star race and they all had work obligations that would keep them from coming out. We have that same issue when planning to race in GF on Friday nights, sometimes the work schedule just doesn't work out for us to travel out. We were just happy to have some sprint car races out in western ND. Between 6 western ND tracks all running full seasons, with over 100 combined nights, there was only going to be 1 sprint car show between them all and that is the Outlaws show coming up in August in Minot. Im not sure what NOSA's reluctance is to try and schedule races out here. Hopefully the show in Williston can cause some momentum to build for sprint car racing out here for next season and beyond.

11 cars, 2 touring All Star drivers and 1 Cali driver. Ok your frustrated, you wanted at least a full field, you were hoping Mr Olson would throw his support behind the race, hoping he wished it be a huge success. First off if I were you I'd direct my frustrations to the All Stars for even considering a race this far away from their home, midweek with 2 touring drivers....pitiful. Secondly, why would a businessman tell you he wants his competition to succeed. I think you are reading way more into this than need be. The all stars are a joke, holding events halfway across the country with two cars. It be like NOSA going to PA or OH. How many teams would pack up and head out there for a week or two?? Not many!! And would you honestly feel the local sanctioning bodies in those states would be anymore welcoming. It's like your invading another territory. They'd probably want you to fail as well. Look, if you want to see some outstanding weekly sprint car racing you're gonna have to travel to Grand Forks, or go to a big show far from home. That's the reality for me, I have to travel, or I won't see much. Come to RCS in Aug, I guarantee 35-40 sprints at the WoO show.

Actually, groups from out of the Ohio area have been welcomed with open arms in the past. For example, the IRA used to make a trip or two over here every year. The car counts were always very good. Of course, the situation is a bit different because we are lucky enough to be in one of the few remaining "410 hotbeds" that are left.

Just wanted to say that the other night at the races the guy sitting next to me said there is a guy from California that has moved to Watford City that has raced before and is putting a sprint car together. I have also heard there is 4 or 5 that raced sprints before that are interested also. Canucklehead call me or give me your number. When you were talking about booze, racing and dubachery. I am not much of a drinker any more but I will be going to the races and I think I could probably lead you to a couple spots to get debacherized. lol

I have heard of stories like that as well. We need to come together and see how many cars we have or who might be serious about getting one. That way, if there was a car count of like 12 cars out here in western ND, we could approach tracks and work to schedule some nights on our own, discuss purse amounts, ect. I created a Facebook page to bring together everyone that is interested in racing and promoting sprint car racing in western North Dakota:

Go there and Like the page and invite all who want to see sprint cars grow over here in western North Dakota.

I will be attending the nationals as well, a formal meeting of the minds has been hashed over several times locally for Sprint races on the western side of the state, As stated previously there is tracks running weekly that could support and show alot of intrest in special (sprint) shows, maybe its just a platform to build from?, maybe its just a appetite nessessary to itch? regardless alot of hard work and discussions are nessessary to unfold a potential hotspot of inrest, with the oil activity the majority of jobs in western ND has become a middle aged to young mans territory, ALOT of fans to sprintcars are in this catagory, as well as the casual fan, older, kids ect not to be discluded, but, with the doubeling in housing, jobs, population ect its a target worthy of pursueing. lets not get carried away here ,small steps are nessessary to prod intrest into the "band aka "tour" feeding itself".. i dont think it is completly impossible, classes can grow rapidly when racers are educated on the specifics of a class , Sprintcars have become something everyone thinks they need to be WoO calibur to race one, thats not the truth, you race for $10k to win you spend money purpotionally, if the purse is lower obviously teams use less pricey equipment, pretty simple, the sky is the limit on what one chooses to spend to win, Anyway, hit me up guys, glad to chat anytime.

Went to the races the last two nights in Williston. While the car count was only 11 tonight they put on a good show. There was a real good crowd and I want to thank the drivers for making the trip out here. It is a ways to go but the possibility of having a real good show out here is really intriguing. We are close enough to Rapid City, Montana, Wyoming and the Grand Forks group. I have been a sprint car fan for many years. I grew up going to Buffalo River, Fargo and West Fargo to watch the sprint cars. I love sprint car racing. I have been so excited to have them back to Williston. The other night I called the president of the NOSA group out of Grand Forks, Mr. Olson. I wanted him to know how much excitement there was in Williston to see the sprints coming here and how beneficial it could be to his group of guys with all the money in Williston right now. As a fan I didn't realise how politicial sprint car racing is. I have never been this disappointed after talking racing with him and how much he disliked the leader of the organization that was coming to Williston. He actually told me that he hoped they failed in their efforts to put on a good show out here. What an attitude. I will never attend a Nosa sanctioned event again. I hope you drivers know what you have for a person representing you. Thanks to the drivers who did attend. You put on a good show. Hopefully next years will be lots bigger. I hope the rest of the people in western North Dakota think twice about supporting Grand Forks sprint racing, I know I will.

How was the purse? You'd think they would have drawn more 360s from Rapid City, Wyoming and Montana.
As far as NOSA, they can't even get their drivers out of Grand Forks.

I know , well, last i heard, the purse for a allstars event I in the $35k to $38k rage,(24 cars) pretty simple to figure the WoO is double that. with the advertised names willing to show that isnt a bad figure, names draw crowds, crows draw $$ you kno he rest. a realistic (local special)show is in the $8k to $10k total purse, (24 cars) series sponsors are nessessary to aid in the(relief) funding of the purse, if the event draws a crowd, the promotor shines on its return, its not a sure thing, but reality is, its a possibility. with any luck its a win win for the drivers, fans and the promotor , i guess that would make it a win, win, win .

I have a clever formula for that very "360 deal" and its not a difficult one.. Id love to explain it, but have to keep it under my hat for a bit,(like I said it takes small steps) the attraction of cars comes in the form of $$ they can achieve, the 360 cars remoltly close to western ND is a bit of a haul, to make it appetizing to them the purse needs to lean thier way, besides the weekly routine needs to be kept in check, racers do have jobs ect, many racers wouls loose well over thier winnings in salary lost over a weekday event, sure its cool, but facts are fact, many cannot "drag up" thier work routine to chase the same money on a 50% chance of recieving it .. regardless, lets keep the intrest rolling, maybe if its built" they will come"..

NOSA doesn't get their drivers out of Grand Forks, really?
This summer, NOSA Sprint Cars have raced @ Devils Lake & Jamestown in ND. Greenbush, Ada & Glyndon in MN. And also at Winnipeg MB Canada. All are 1 to 2 hours away from Grand Forks. And they put on a damn good show wherever they go.
Butch, when was the last time you were @ a NOSA race? Besides your little drive from Lake Preston, SD to Huron SD (when NOSA was there last 5 or so years ago). I'm sure that if you want to help pay the $4 gallon fuel for the race teams to make the 5 hour drive to Huron, NOSA would probably come back & race there too.

thats the point RHC, the "RCS" NOSA cars travel 1-2 hrs outside of GF, nothing more, thats fine to each thier own, racers are individuals that can make thier own adult decissions on when and where they want to run thier equipment, seems perfectly logical, a handfull of cars on the Western side of the state are in attendence from time to time, they race for the same money GF drivers race for, no tow ect, the cost of the tow NEEDS to reflect the purse, its simple math, the western Nosa shows two-three years ago had higher starting $$ and locked events into "two day" (different venues) shows to make the tow worthy of attracting the GF Nosa cars.. the bias opions expressed on here are in the eye of the beholder.. It is what it is, no harm is selecting new events to run on the western side of the state, if "Nosa " teams which to travel to attend, than so be it, thier always welcome. to point fingers and say he said she said drama is pointless, these teams are regular folks with regular jobs, if traveling is on thier agenda for shows worthy of longer shows the purse needs to be higher, obviously the car count drops ,Schatz treid several different methods to make RRVS float why wasnt more Nosa (GF based) teams there. half the field was drivers that towed more than 3hrs , and the friday night RCS crowd was less than 100 miles away. like I said to each thier own, some things dont work out. lets try to understand each teams dilema rather than point fingers.

If Williston wants a sprint car show? Why not work with your home state boys, put up the same money as a All Star show and dont have to pay a sanction fee to anyone. Win win for everyone!!! You have to remember Williston isn't just a hop, skip and a jump for anyone!! Iv'e lived in ND all my life and have never been there. Like someone once told me that has driven it many times."Its not the end of the world but you can see it from there?"

Like the facebook page you've started to get more interest in Sprint car racing.
Are you looking at running the same type of rules with both 410's & 360's (NOSA rules package) or are you looking to run just an ASCS type 360 sprint car series out your way?

I kno this isnt a question aimed for me, but, before things get out of hand, this is just a group entertaining the thought of sprint shows in western ND, I am friends with many of the drivers and crews, proubly more than the fans, and from that point of view, a rules package needs to be somewhat open, we have a handfull of cars each of which run different budgets and specs on thier machines , some are full blown Outlaw type mills and some are entry level 360's maybe even less HP than a ASCS type mill. those all have to be made lagitimate to make this thing float anything from a irion headed 283 to a all aluminum 440 should be legal IMO, I kno pretty vauge, but, with less than 10 cars on this side of the state the rules HAVE to be that way, Black hills speedway ran a tire rule of "black and round" again sounds like a slaughterhouse could occur for a competition (maybe it would) the teams tire bill would drop tremendously expessially in begining stages of uniting a series, Like i said, i would only hope the rules would be pretty vauge to accomidate any parties intrested to attend, as soon as it shows intrest the rules would obviously tighten up so the competition may bleed thro, either way, racers are racers, a few will try to spoil it, a few will just be happy turning laps, its not a get rich deal, it is really good at making you poor. thats JMO.

Just a few thoughts. We are a ways away but still centrally located for the north dakota, montana, wyoming and south dakota groups. Our track is a small track and some of the 360 cars could still be competitive. It would be nice to get a tour or possibly the outlaws on their way out west from the nationals. The Minot woo show is not always the best for car count but maybe the clubs could get together and pay better tow money or pay bigger money towards the bottom of the A main and into the b main. Make it so some of the support group could make some pretty good money even if they weren't able to run with the top outlaws. Tie up some of the money so the cars get paid for cumalitive events so they will have a big incentive to make all shows. There are lots of hotels out here and if we could get each to donate a couple rooms maybe the first 50 drivers could get hotels paid for. Maybe we could get the drivers groups passes at the Arc. Williston has one of the nations top recreation centers with wave riding, a flowing river where you can tube, basketball courts, olympic size pool, deluxe weight room, tennis courts, volleyball, and I don't know what else. We could have a big feed at the fairgrounds. There is a great golf course next to the race track, The Eagle Ridge. Medora is not too far away also. Walleye fishing is about as good as it gets around here. You could have a calcutta and auction off the drivers. This is a great place to spend some time. I know you said small steps but this could be an event, not just a race. If a person is going to try to pull this off it would be beneficial to start as soon as possible. A lot of the oil companies sponsorships have to be budgeted for and usually they should be asked before the next year. We need to get a good car count. I also think the rules shouldn't be too tight. We could draw cars from all over, we wouldn't want to discourage someone from coming. Just pay the back end better so it would be worth their while coming here even if they weren't able to run with the big dogs. I also wanted you to know that we had a top notch safety crew up here for the race. I think they were from Husets. Thanks for coming. This place has so much potential. This could be the biggest event of the year up here. It would be fun for 1 or 2 nights to be really rockin the bakken.

I think that in order to get started, we would still run under the NOSA rules as that is what we all have been using for racing in the past. Engines would be 410 as that is what some guys already have and they would want to run them and not have to purchase a 360 right away. Now if it was decided to go to 360 eventually, then a season or 2 heads up could be given in order for engines to be bought or sold. A 360 engine wouldnt be a bad idea as that is what a lot of cars in MT and SD run. I think getting a few doubleheader weekends together, some track on Saturday and Minot Sunday would make it more likely to get to guys to travel and get tracks on board knowing they expect a good car count.

I know we should proubly be using the FB page for this discussion, but, WTH, were here, and intrested, so here it is, Ive stepped away from the politics of the sport for personal reasons, some of which I choose to leave up to the powers that be. that being said, I have expressed before the proposal of each individual residing nearby tracks to become our voice of contact, its much easier than one person doing six guys work, maybe some will be helpfull maybe not, regardless, many of us absolutly NEED to be on the same page.. a track stewart for thier hometown is nessessary (helpfull) to be appointed. many of us can attend occasionall meetings without destroying our personal evenings completly, hub meetings of the "series" and all points of contact would have to attend, or "stewarts" stay within contact, Ive expressed a Idea to attract 360's to our show because the likelyhood of the 410's killing the show is always a threat. not always , but the 360's are sometimes standoffish arriving to a 410 race (unless thier a hottdog 360 car) they can get intimidated on making the tow to win.
this is what ive constructed.
a "360 challenge" anyone running a 360 that breaks into the top 5 positions earns another $100 per position pretty easy to police and tech 5 blocks in the tech area, should take two minutes to complete , the $$ would attract the 360's and give them a chance to race for more$$ without having to win the race for a respectable payout, now sure monies and positions can be altered, but i think you get the jist of the concept. reward the underdogs and make the 360 finishing position attractive to cars that might tow. Now givin the tracks condition and specifics of any event 360's can move along just fine, weve all seen it. our pursuit is to attract cars that run thier "hometrack rules" this way we accomidate both the 410's and the 360's its achieveable from the drivers perspective, and with any luck it would attract more cars at the gate, the series can be as aggressive as nessesary to tease the wallets of the 360 cars, fans love a challenge, it doesnt alter the 360 drivers qualifying spot and gives the series some hype to step off on. .. well thats it, rip on it if you wish. just something ive dreamed up with the attendence of both 360 and 410 shows over the past 20 years . i dont care about the specifics others alterations are welcome, but again, just a platform to build from, id love to see it work.

Now to be a bit more specific, I kno the question will arise about"what about Open 360's?, what about a 383? 377?iron block 410? mopar, ford, ect, well, another easy task to disolve, without creating a nightly lab experiment of cylinder pumping the "360" challenge is any iron block with Up nozzle injection, many open 360's can rip pretty good, the specs on a ASCS type 360 is a bit tighter, sure with todays Inj and ign the ASCS mills are geting stronger and stronger, a occasional Odd ball ci irion block should be worthy of competing, BUT , no down nozzels can be present to achieve the bonus, (you can race it, sure, just no bonus $$) just the weight of the irion block is huge vs the aluminum, but getting into down nozzle heads can make some pretty serious HP, this package should welcome new drivers, current ones, ones towing from afar, like i said pretty vauge , and im open to changes and additions, basically a Aluminum/iron headed irion block with up knozzles or LESS is capable of running for more $$ finishing position. NOW were not running for the farm here, its a stepping stone to make things stronger in the future, Nosa runs for what? $1200 to win? two fresh rear tires is $400. its a pretty easy equasion to figure out this is just a hobby, some take it more serious than others, sure, the heat of competition takes over and all the $$ is forgot about, thats what makes it fun, just throwing it out there, let me kno what you think...
