Will this be the year that the car count at the IMCA Racesaver Super Nationals surpasses that of the Knoxville 410 Nationals?? With the interest being expressed by teams around the country, it's just possible!!!
The office has recently had calls from race teams from Louisiana, Texas and North Carolina saying that they are planning on using their summer vacations to travel to Eagle Raceway for a weekly show just so that they can get a feel for the high banked racing action at America's Home Track prior to the Super Nationals.
If your plans don't include attending all 3 days of this year's second edition of the IMCA Racesaver Super Nationals August 29th through the 31st, you still have time to rethink your decision.
Hope we see you all at the track for some of the closest sprint car racing action that you'll see ANYWHERE!!!

Maybe if you include the exciting hobby stocks, modifieds, and sport compacts it will surpass the car count. Other than that I didnt know there were over 100 race saver 305's out there. Am I wrong?

If you get the 100 you hope, imagine the "backgate receipts" the track will collect?

Who cares - the quality of cars and talent level of drivers will not compare.

Yep, and for not much purse $$$ (comparitively speaking). It's no wonder a lot of tracks now have 6 divisions paying squat in purse and 50 people in the grandstand to watch....
I will say I think the 305's will put on a great show @ Eagle (track is the perfect size for the motors) and I hope they have a big car and more importantly, FAN count. But anyone that is bringing a car from as far away as TX or LA should have their head examined, Racesaver 305's are billed to be an entry level "fun" class, not a group of cars traveling 9 hours to race. Won't be too long and they will change rules, and have guys complaining that the purses aren't high enough to constitute what they are spending (sound familiar ASCS and WoO)....

How many cars travel from both coasts to run in the 410 Nationals and at a MUCH greater expense, given the cost of engines?? I would say that statistically, the outlay to return is relatively the same.
As for the rules changing, they haven't since the series was instituted, and they WON'T!!!!

Talk about hype. And it's only the second year. One can hardly wait to to hear about the 55th and 99th years.

I've been to the Knoxville Nationals for over 20 years and was at the Eagle 305 Nationals last year. I can honestly say Eagle was some of the best racing I saw all year. Yes, the quality of cars isn't the same and yes, the talent of the drivers isn't the same, but in my opinion, the quality of the race itself was just as good. On a 1/3 mile track there was a lot of side by side racing, a lot of passing and best of all, I couldn't tell you at the drop of the green who was going to win.
I don't want to turn this thread into a Knoxville vs. Eagle debate; obviously Knoxville can't be beat. However, Eagle's putting on some pretty good sprint racing too, so please don't bash them. The nice thing about Eagle is that they're just getting started and I can see it growing for many years to come. Unlike Knoxville, which seems to be on the downside of it's heyday. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't miss it for the world, but I wish they could get the car count they had 10 or 15 years ago. As long as their purse continues to be top heavy and you can tell before time trials even start who's going to take home the big bucks, they're not going to have the car count they've had in the past.
Either way, I just feel lucky that I can attend both events every year and see some damn good racing at BOTH tracks!

So the thing about paying last half of what first makes is still in effect for racesaver events?

Sounds like a huge weekend down there with the IMCA Sprints. If I was closer I'd be there for sure. I hope things go well and that it turns out to be a great event. Every event doesn't have to be the Knoxville Nationals to have a good time at the track and see some close competitive racing. I had the privlege of getting to know Bob Allen through the Arlington Raceway and I presume he's still involved with the IMCA Sprints. He's passionate about the sport and is committed to making it fun and affordable for the low budget racers. Too bad that some folks can't enjoy things for what they are and just roll with it.

24 truly special impressive unique balls out cars would be awesome. There are go cart races that pay 10 grand to win with hundreds of entries if that's what you're into.
Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

So why is your weekly racesaver payoff $700 to win, $350 for 5th and $250 for last? I thought the last gets half of first payoff was a great idea. If it's an intro or hobby class mostly then that would be the best payout to get new teams and keep them racing. You see some hobby stocks that pay a couple hundred to win and last doesn't get enough to pay for2 pit passes. Not good.

The car count might exceed the fan count but I have to agree with the guy who said that teams wanting to travel half-way accross the country to race for $2000 in a budget class need to have their heads examined. LOL
I've heard that some 305 teams in PA and OH are already spending over 20G on their motor, so much for cost effectiveness.
Nothing against the 305's. They are a great division to start out in and for people on a budget to have some fun. Hopefully it stays that way.

Yeah it's apples to oranges. Who really cares if it's 99 cars or 120? That's still way more than you need to put on a great show. A high banked 1/3 mile is usually gonna provide better racing action than a flat half-mile in any division. Every division has dominant drivers though, even the 305's. You might not have any idea who the favorites to win are because you're not familiar with the division and it's drivers. As for the Nats, I don't think too many people would have picked Schatz to win from 21st? last year or Tim Shaffer winning it a few years ago. There have been some locals that have ran upfront and been in contention recently too like Brown and Henderson winning a prelim night.
