i don't call not putting the fast guys up front "penalizing".
i call it putting on a show.
after all, isn't that what we want?

I personally think starting the guys up front that deserve to be up front will put on a better show than guys quallifying good then getting pushed back to starting 12th. I say this because with the rules package that keeps getting forced on the race teams it has become much harder to get to the front after starting mid pack in "bad air". The teams are now locked into flat wings and a RR tire that anyone who works on a winged sprint car will call junk. The tires no longer grow and to make matters worse this season teams are being forced to run RR tires by Hoosier that are all the leftover tires from last year that nobody wanted. Tires are now rolling out to 102-104 inches rather than 105-107 inches. This makes it even harder to race through traffic due to cars being laid on the RR and spinning. Now most will just say to run a smaller LR but it does not work that way. THis is not a stagger issue it is a ride height issue. Teams have been forced to run the small tires all year now and will continue to have to use them until every tire distributor around each individual part of the country are out of these old tires before any new tires will be send out by Hoosier. Now im not saying it is impossible to get to tthe front from the back, the 15 car seems to have mastered this. However i feel if you start the 10 fastest cars in the top 10 spots the racing in turn will be much better between those 10 cars. When you go out every night and qualify 9th through 16th you should not be rewarded with a chance of starting on the pole of the dash. Schatz seems to qualify in this area every night however he does not seem to have the luck when it comes to the dash draw as some other guys. I think if you look at front row starts for the year the 11 car seems to be capitalizing most on this system by qualifying around 10th and ending up front row of the main.

Another thing to look at is if you go back 10 years starting the fastest cars in the back always resulted in better races watching the fast guys work traffic and in the end battle each other for the win at the end of 25 laps. However there was a bigger difference back then from your local slower cars and the faster outlaw calliber guys. Today it is far to easy for everyone to just open a All Star, Kaeding, Br Motorsports catalog and say i want this, and this, and this, and two of that and withing 2 days shipping have and outlaw calliber car. The competition is much tougher today front to back then it was 10 years ago. As times change the racing needs to change.

Good stuff right there about how shitty these rr tires are right now, wl see when it is projected that they will get new rr tires from Hoosier ??????, hopefully by summer

if starting the fast cars is so exciting then why does T-Mac have a race every year that offers the guys on the front row extra money to go to the back? and why in recent years have people complained the event has gotten boring because no one goes back?
why does a little local race in california at a little track called thunderbowl attract 100 winged cars and pack the stands with a format that puts the fast cars to the back?
speaking of the T-Mac event, go watch the '99 front row challenge and tell me that the crowd wasn't pumped up in the stands chanting "go haud go".

i like your thinking.
so why do most people start getting excited when the lead cars get to traffic and have to start racing their way through it?
how many times does a yellow come out just when the lead cars get to traffic and people say , "darn they were just getting to traffic. it was about to get good."
i grew up watching the fast cars start in the back. heck most sprint car races were that way until the woo began starting their guys up front.
as much as you PA guys complain about the woo i am shocked you defend their idea of putting the fast cars in front.

In a few weeks when all those names are starting 10th-12th, we'll see whoever played the game right (and starts up front), check out. Out of the 4 WoO races in Williams Grove last year, 3 of them had passes for the lead in the last 2 laps (2 on the last lap). How is that the fast cars checking out? I'd rather watch Donny Schatz pass Greg Hodnett on the last lap of a race than watch Greg Hodnett blow by Troy Fraker on lap 3 of the feature and win by 9 seconds, nothing against Hodnett or Fraker, my experience has just been that when the fast cars start up front of TT races, the fast cars race each other the WHOLE race, they don't pass backmarkers and then make clean air TT laps out front like they do during the handicap shows. Oh, and is it possible that, even though I'm from PA, I still follow the WoO and their drivers throughout their career too? Watch out for those blinders...

i'm glad you saw a race that was good.
now i have to ask....why if starting the fast guys up front is so good did some areas in PA go to a hanicap system to keep the fast guys from starting up front?

I would have to agree that I don't understand the argument for heat races to "start the fastest guy up front so it's a single file, no passing, hot lap session". If that's what you want then why have the heats to start with, just set the feature off of qualifying. I don't care to see hot laps for heat races.

I've said that the WoO format was the best TT format I've seen even though it comes with a penalty for faster cars...
I'm going to remain open minded to the new tweeks as it plays out on the track...
Opinions may vary...

Im working now on my Audi A8. little upgrades around the engine, tweaks and moving to change the spark pluge, srould give me some boost in performance.

That is just fning laughable when you make statements like that. I'm sure Donnie was thinking that those bonus points for qualifying were not that important last year so he decided to sandbag.
