I actually watched the broadcast tonight from Tulare and after Brian Brown's crash in the B-main I noticed he did not have a teather on the front axel. I also saw video from his crash in Tucson and couldn't see as well on that video but it didn't appear he had one on then either. Is it only mandatory for the Platinum members to run these or do all cars racing with the Outlaws have to have them. I have looked back at some pictures from Volusia and it doesn't look like alot of guys are running them. Anyone have any ideas on the exact rule?

They haven't been available yet, at least as of 2 weeks ago.

At $200 I think they are WAY over priced. It'll keep us from running WoO races this season.

exactly, #1 like me, if you happen to have different axles of different diameters you get to buy more hardware,#2 the tehers dont attach the spindle location, #3 the tethers attach in a "aft" direction of motion,#4 way overpriced,#5 only one specific "listed" tether compliable with the rules,#6 more items to release and bolt on in a 2min work area, now i dont completly disagree with them being a part of safety to the sport, i do dissagree with the manditory utilizeation of a less than par product, i strongly believe they could be adapted to sprintcars in a fassion to suit everyone better, and for less money, I can purchase a choker sling rated for the entire weight of my car and then some at the local tool shop for 20 bucks the choke fassion would be capeable of attaching to any dia axle.. im still not convinced the item is ready for competition yet and alot of room for improvements , all seem obvious to me. owell.

Yet I'd bet you're willing to spend $200 per night on a new tire that has to be replaced after 40 laps or less.....

We don't buy new tires EVERY night. But you are still correct.

Yet, I bet you would refuse to pay $ 20 extra dollars on a ticket to come see the WoO because they had to buy all the competitors tethers. not all racers are funded by KKR and TSR

Vande.....We would be happy to use a tether system on our front axle if you would like to buy it for us. We would put decals with your name on it right by the mounts. We use a 2 1/2 axle, so the ButlerBuilt part number is BBP 4922-250. The cost is $189 plus tax and shipping . After spending $280 on a ButlerBuilt seat insert kit , $45 on torsion stop retainers , $400 on a new helmet , $180 on new belts , and $65 on new driving gloves , the safety equipment budget is over extended. Sometimes you just have to draw the line. Want to help?

In my opinion, the safety budget can never be over extended, and if you think so, then safety isnt first in your mind.

IMO, you must think $200 for the kit is a whale of a deal. there is more affordable ways to contain the axle, you would be hard pressed to find the casual fan invest in full body armor to attend the races, why not? too pricey? if you add up the costs to operate a car vs the payback (financhally) it is a loosing game, 90% of the casual fans think sprintcars are funded by wealthy people , alot of them are successfull buisness owners n such, but, not all of them, for instance, the A main for a Outlaw show pays $800 to start, fuel, lodging, oil, tires, pit entrance, the list of costs goes on and on, at $800 yo start you "maybe" going to break even, alot of us do it for the love of the sport, if a driver chooses to spend $180 on a RR he is trying to increase his chances of start $$, the $200 tethers have nothing to do with perfomance and will NEVER aid him in guaining positions The next WoO show you attend ask the nontransfering driver from the B how much $$ he made for the night. your illusions of bigtime $$ will be hushed the rich get richer its a rich mans sport, if you cant support the testimonies of local drivers then you have alot of drivers with thier backs against a wall. Truth is many dont know realistically what it costs to fund a car, even on a budget level, sure one can be ignorant and say "well then, if its too costly dont play that game then" that is purely a easy way out of saying "I was wrong not to listen to your plea". im 90% certain many of us will end up buying the tethers just to compete. will anyone on here start a fund to pay for them? i think you get my point.

OK, then you build a better one and present it to WOO and tracks. If it is as good as you say, they will also allow it. You can manufacturer them and sell them.

I doubt they will allow it unless you PAY a fee to WoO to get it approved. Some people don't have time and money to start up a new business just to prove message board people a point. Do you?

Then there is also the cost to join the Outlaws, which you have to to run. So if you were only going to be able to run once during the year you have to make a bussiness decision if it is worth it.

Once again, the power of the mighty dollar, I would be glad to partner up with you to fund our "Better Tether" you sell it ill build it. if you think the WoO will be gobbling up the better idea, let me kno.. As stated, Wthe WoO requires a Membership also , even if you turn four laps, that competitor pays a $100 membership fee, Alot of your local drivers are taking it up the shorts on this one.. do them a favor, and buy one of thier T shirts! or better yet, Sponsor thier car..

daboy, tenter, dirtdevil: you guys are spot on. Not everyone has a 3 bay shop, 3 major sponsors for their car, much less an entry fee sponsor, or toter fuel sponsor. Just sayin,,,,,,,

It's not that I'm complaining about the tethers. I just think the price is WAY out of hand for them. We'll just keep plugging along and maybe some extra cash will filter in so can buy one so we can run a few WoO races. We are in this for fun and we enjoy running with the WoO when we can.
