I googled it, found an informative discussion on some Indiana racing site. NOTHING on Chili Bowl website. Its someting like top 3 in A mains make Sat. finale, everyone else in various alphabets. Didn't see anything on heats, qualifying, etc.

Each driver runs on their designated "qualifying" night.
Each driver draws for starting position in heat
Each night will have 8-12 heats (depending on car count). Large car count this year so there may be more heats. Heats are ALL passing/finishing points (I believe the top 3 get finishing points). Lowest drivers after heats go to C mains, lined up straight up according to points after heats.
Higher points drivers after heats go to 4 A main qualifiers. Once again all passing/finishing points in these races. Top 12 (I think) drivers are locked into A main. Balance goes to twin B features.
Top finishing drivers from C's go to end of corresponding B's. Same for B's to the back of the A. Top 3 from each nights A are automatically locked into Saturday's A main. Those 12 drivers draw for starting positions on Saturday (Winners from each night guaranteed top 4 starting position, 2nd place drivers guaranteed 5-8 starting positions etc)
Saturday everyone is lined up straight up by points from their qualifying nights
Real race cars don't have fenders...

24 cars lineup for the A main Saturday unless last year's champ doesn't qualify then he can start on the tail in 25th.

I believe the provisional goes to last years CAR, not driver. It hasn't made a difference in the last 3 years, but it has in the past.

The purse structure goes like this... $10,000 to win Saturday (which isn't enough). Everything else really sucks so it's never really discussed
do it in the dirt

All drivers in the Heats & in the "A" Qualifiers earn passing/finishing points during the 4 Qualifying nights, not just the top 3 finishers. On Friday night, after the Feature is over, the 12 drivers who are locked into the Sat. night Championship Feature will go to the infield for the draw of their starting positions on Sat.

I agree it could pay more to win, and most likely start the a as well. But you also have to remember they have 250+ cars. Belleville's total Purse is $84,000 ($12,000 to win 700 to start the A). Id HAVE to imagine the Chili Bowls purse to be much higher. I see where the car count is, do you? I wouldnt change a thing if I was Emmitt Hahn/ Lanny Edwards either.
