Last year at the Ovals, some inconsiderate, self-entitled individual parked his high-end RV right in front of the campground's only dump station. No one was able to dump their tanks until this guy was ready to leave on Sunday, and he was in no hurry to leave, in spite of a line-up of RV's waiting. More than a few other RV owners were not happy with the situation. Is there a chance that the fairground could be asked to put up cones, signs, tape or whatever in front of this area to prevent it from being tied up all weekend again? I know this is not a PAS issue, but I couldn't find an e-mail address for the fairground. Thanks!

This year it is a PAS issue as we are organizing the camping. Forwarded your message to Don Kazarian.

Scott and tblange,
An RV 'er used the dump station today and it almost overflowed. Not sure it could handle more than a few RV's in a day. Possibly a clog.
There is a second dump station thru gate E but you would have to go thru a second gate that the go cart people have the access to.

The dump station in the main RV camping area was plugged/inoperable. PAS was made aware of this as early as Monday of the week of the Ovals, through this thread, but nothing appeared to have been done. An "out of order" sign would have been nice, to save people the inconvenience of finding out the hard way. I directed another camper on Thursday to the second dump site through gate E, but he returned telling me that it was also not working. The overall condition of the camping area, in my opinion, has deteriorated over the last year or so. Many electrical outlets not working, leaking water spigots with missing handles, no toilet paper in the dirty washrooms, and of course the lack of a working dump station. All of this for only $25.00 a night! I spoke with one camper from northern CA who won't be back next year solely for this reason. Other than that, the Thursday and Saturday shows were great, and Friday, although a little disappointing, was still a non-winged sprint car race, so can't complain.

Sorry for the problems. When there is a problem during race week, this is not the place to get hold of The PASZ staff with any problems or questions. We are swamped and do not have the time to look at this page on race week with any regularity. I just read of this now and have just seen Lew's post for the first time. Best to get hold of someone in person at the track or in the fairgrounds office.
The PAS was only in charge of getting the campers in and situated. Maintenance and upkeep of the camping area is the responsibility of the fairgrounds. Received a text and a call on Saturday on the way home from the races of some problem with a flood in the campground. I immediately called Don and he said the fair had been advised of it and their maintenance man should have been there to handle the situatioin. Have no idea how fast/if they reacted.

tblange, is this "Cowboy"? If it is, nice to meet you at the PAS.
As far as the Camping conditions at the PAS, part of the problem is that the Fair is held just prior to the Ovals. Much of it is held where we camp. They are not able to water the grass for 1 1/2 months or so.
The race prior to the Fair the grass was as green as it has been in years. All the sprinklers worked and no water leaks.
Can't speak of the restrooms but the RV dump station did not work all week.
They do not have as many electrical outlets as they did several years ago. Most are able to get electric with extension cords but it would be better if they more outlets. It's only an issue for the Ovals.
I am happy to pay $25 per night to camp at the PAS. The only other choice is the sh%t hole "Resort" just down the road.
Just my 2 cents or $25 bucks.

To answer Lew's question....no, I am not "Cowboy". This was my 18th consecutive Oval Nationals, and I will keep on coming back as long as I am on the right side of the dirt. Just wanted to clarify that, so that I am not tagged as a chronic complainer. The last 3 years I was lucky enough to do it RV style, and there's nothing better than sleeping in your own bed every night after a 5 minute walk when the races are done (or in between races if you don't want to watch the filler classes). Especially since "home" is now 340 miles away after living in Orange County for almost 18 years. I was camped in the paved area under one of the shelters, so wasn't too concerned about the color of the grass. I agree that $25.00 per night is not a bad rate, assuming everything works. I ran into some campers who were not charged for their stay, so it seemed to be a hit or miss deal. Scott, the flood started mid-evening on Saturday with a geyser shooting 12 feet in the air inside a locked maintenance compound. By the time the races were over, it had flooded a portion of the campgrounds. Not sure when it got turned off, but it was not running the next morning, so someone must have eventually gotten to it.
