Sprint car racing doesn't race to the yellow flag under any scenario from any race track I've ever attended. in the event that a car spins or crashes AFTER the leader takes the checker, those that didn't make it by the flagstand are scored per hte last completed lap (except those in teh wreck, they finish as the last cars on the lead lap).
If the yellow (or red) had come out, it should have been a Green, White Checker finish. The flag thrown after the white does not have to be the checker, it can be a yellow or a red also and the race be restarted.
Racing to the yellow is something that was primarily a stock car racing rule, and at that, must be a southeast rule more than anything. The stock car classes in Iowa have run "green, white, checker" restarts for years and years too.
