Going Green at Riverside

This coming Saturday, September 21st, we turn I44 Riverside Speedway into a sea of green in honor and celebration of our beloved #1 fan, Jeremiah Green.

Just months after he was born, Jeremiah was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer that causes continued tumor growth in his throat and lungs. Jeremiah's parents, Tracy and Keith Green, were told the very worst outlook that parents could hear, that Jeremiah would not live to his first birthday.

Jeremiah Green is now 9 years old and continues to beat back his rare illness. With the courage, bravery, and determination of a hundred warriors Jeremiah has battled through over 90 surgeries, including one just yesterday, in the constant war he wages against cancer.

Befriended by fellow Bridgecreek resident and I44 Riverside Speedway racer Tyler Alexander at a school sponsored event, a lifelong friendship was born and so too was Team Green. As their friendship grew, so too did Jeremiah's desire to come watch Tyler and his cousin Christopher Wells race at I44 Riverside Speedway.

Jeremiah's illness kept him from going to his first race until May 18th, when storms cut the show short during the final race. Just two days later, a massive and deadly EF5 tornado hit I44 Riverside Speedway head on, destroying the last remaining auto racing facility in the OKC metro area. Crushed by news and pictures of the devastation at I44 Riverside Speedway, Jeremiah was overjoyed when he learned that I44 Riverside Speedway had begun an epic battle to not only save the speedway, but reopen in time for the annual blockbuster, the 14th Annual Mini Sprint Nationals.

By much more slim margins than most know, I44 Riverside Speedway pulled off what was universally not thought possible - reopening to the biggest show in speedway history. Jeremiah and his family were there, happily taking in the racing along with nearly 700 fellow patrons and over 170 race teams.

Team Green has swept Riverside like a wildfire of inspiration, with racers and fans alike joining each week.

This Saturday, I44 Riverside embraces the passionate support from a young man who fights the greatest adversity each day, always looking forward to the next saturday night race to watch his heroes compete, and joined by his Team Green family that grows each week as all who come to know the wonderful young man embrace his bravery, courageous spirit and youthful exuberance.

This Saturday, all of Riverside will Go Green in honor and celebration of Jeremiah Green.

To all racers - whether you have raced just once at Riverside this season, perhaps half a dozen times, perhaps most nights - we encourage each of you throughout this Mini Sprint Nation to come compete in honor and celebration of your biggest fan, as well as bringing some small items and memorabilia for Jeremiah. Since his first race, Jeremiah has been collecting everything and decking his room out in gear from all the racers. We are placing this endeavor in hyper drive this saturday. One of the things we encourage most are signed pictures from the racers so we can put those all to his wall - although we encourage and welcome any and all forms of creative items that would light up young Jeremiah's soul. We also encourage everyone to get some green on this saturday, both in the pits and front chute.

To all fans - GO GREEN. We will have a limited supply of shirts for sale at the speedway this Saturday, but we encourage all patrons on either side of the fence to sport green to welcome and honor and Jeremiah. Hats, shirts, socks, jackets, hoodies, beanies, etc etc. If you have some cool race gear - don't be afraid to give it an extremely happy home. Diecast cars are specially noted as Jeremiah loves to build racetracks out of legos and stage his own races throughout the week  <img src=/images/Main/smile_100x100.gif border=0 alt=Smile>

Many people in the racing community have embraced Jeremiah and his family, and this Saturday the entire I44 Riverside family Goes Green in honor and celebration of such a wonderful young man and his love for our sport!

It all starts at 4pm when the pit gates open this Saturday. Hot laps follow at 6pm and the program begins at 7pm.
One of the most beautiful race nights of the season is expected with daytime highs right around 80 degress with temps falling to near 70 throughout the event.
