I've always thought the WoO drivers gave the worst "downer" interviews, one reason I think they didn't make it on TV. Just "blah" everytime they were interviewed. Compare them to Indy Car guys, Castroneves, Kanan, etc, they have a ton of personality. I realize everyone is not going to be a John Force, but I think the WoO should work with them. Dollansky, Swindell, Pitman....they all are bland.

You're an idiot!! Who wouldn't miss their family when they're on the road all time?? Racing is his job he has to do what he has to do to provide for his family. So yeah I'd imagine being on the road all time and away from your wife and kids would definetly be hard. You're prolly some single fat loser that goes to the races be himself orders a bunch of track burgers and sodas from the concession stands and looks around at all the other people who actually have someone and familes. Saldana is one of the best sprint car drivers to ever get in the seat, so so what if the guy doesn't interview well ( so you say). I've always thought of Joey as the quiet shy type, but I'll tell you one things he's one of the nicest drivers in sprint car racing. Never seen him turn a fan away for a picture or an autograph, he's always taken time out for his fans.

Bull shit. No one wants to hear about how much he misses his family. If he doesnt like driving a race car for a "job" get the fuck out and find something else. It's basically the same thing as playing a game or a hobby.
Doesnt interview well so i say? really? it's a trail of tears to and from the mic everytime he is around.

I can remember meeting and shaking hands with a guy named "Little Joe" who had just won the Nationals. Super nice guy.
I think that super nice guy's kid may just win tonight.

In Saldana's defense the dude just came out of the best ride in dirt racing... I'd cry in interviews too if I was the guy that made the 9 ride as potent as it is now and wasn't behind the wheel any longer...

Why is driving a race car for a living any different than any other job? usually people who drive race cars for a living don't know anything different. No need to bash someone about havin a tough job just because it's a job you may want to have. I would almost bet professional sports is much more difficult than your average 9 to 5 mentally. Unless of course you are stuck in a 9 to 5 because of you lack of desire to follow anything else. Being a professionl athlete/ race car driver is not easy by any means. this is just what I know and this is not based on any interviews cause I have not heard any of them. Racin for a livin is tough. And I am going to guess most of these drivers work too and not just drive.
Just my $.02
( I have been a professional athlete so I kind of understand)
Finally livin the dirt dream.

Articles with interviews of him talked about the same topic. Lots of different perspectives to his words, folks. Refreshing, he isn't a Nascar clone & speaks from the heart. Whiny, no one's job is easy but they're not complaining every chance they get an audience. Whatever direction you choose on his words... your decision.
No one holds a gun to his head & says "leave your family behind & go racing or else." His choice. There will come a day when family means more than racing (stays home with them) & good for him when it does. We all make sacrifices & choices in life. We all aren't public figures with a willing media wanting to hear about it & report it. Big difference.
I remember a few years ago being in the pits after a WoO race at TMS (remember those?) & thinking "how do these guys do this 100+ times a year?" By that... I meant they all acted like they just lost their dog, their best friend & who knows what else. I justified it at the time with people that tolerate losing well have become too accustomed to it & have lost their desire to win.
Maybe the personalities of some sprint car drivers don't translate well to interviews or pitside chat after a long day. I don't like that but it may be a fact. Professionalism goes a long way in the growth of the sport... which has been stuck as long as I've followed it no matter what spin someone tries to put on it.
Goes back to something I've preached on here as long as I've been here: like or don't like them for what they do on track, nothing else. Pretty hard to do but more realistic than judging their every move (which is none of our business, btw).

Has anyone noticed that the more idiotic, profane, childish and stupid post are being made by those with the fewest post? The vets with hundreds or even thousands of post are respectful, less profane, well thoughtout and delevered and show some degree of intelligence

Hahaha sounds like your one of the few people who feel this way. How does it affect your life if he or any driver misses their families? Are not able to sleep at night because in an interview he stated he missed his family? What your really saying is your jealous you can't race and have no family to miss. Were all smart enough to know who the real heros are dumbshit so there's zero need to compare someone serving our country to a man who races a sprint car for a living.

I think Saldana is a wonderful driver and in his interviews he tends to show his more emtional side! He did loose his ride last year which must have been really hard for him and now he has a new ride and struggled this year. As a mother I can understand how hard it would be to be away from your family and racing for a living is a tough job. I personally don't like when drivers don't show any emotion and I am sure you all know what drivers I am talking about. So give Joey a break! We need more emotional men out there
Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!
Winged sprintcars = the fastest and most exciting
racecars on dirt!

Been going to and working on sprint cars since 1971. Why should you,or anyone else, including me,bash them ? You just seem to be mad your mom wouldnt let you go to the races this weekend.

Joey's a class act and a credit to the sport. This kind of critcism indicates that people have too much time on their hands.
