This is a good question. What's the point of stopping the race on a restart to penalize one spot?

I dont see a point to stop the race. If you dont stop the race the car that hit the cone could not win the race. If they lose a spot at the end of the race. Plus, if you dont get a good jump hit the cone and try again just from one spot back some times this might work or not. But we are now starting to play a game of cone chess.

is this a judgement call, is this call of one spot in national rules. Also a safety belt coming loose for Shane Stewart could be fixed and he got his position back. At weekly races if you stop on track for loose seatbelts you would go to rear. This is the T. McCarl rule. Anytime he got a bad start he would stop on track, to fix his belts, then restart in original position. You can no longer do this in weekly races. The nationals are a WOO race and rulesmay be different.

Knoxville use to run under the hit the cone, go below the cone, or pass before the cone you go to the tail, but I think they changed it last year our a few years ago to what I thought was a 2 spot penalty, but apparently it's only a 1 spot penalty.
The Nationals are run under Knoxville Raceway rules, not WoO rules, so it's all local rules.
