Myself (JERSEYSPRINTNUT) and a good buddy from Ohio (D Hancock) might be heading out to the west coast to see 7 races (mostly WOO) in Wash., Oregon, and Chico, Ca. I feel this may be the only time ever that you can see the Outlaws run this many nights in a row. Should be a trip of a lifetime and I am excited about the possibility of pulling this off.

MY BIG QUESTION is are there places in and around Chico that takes in race fans for a few nights like they do at Knoxville? It is going to be a very expensive trip so we are looking at ways to cut the cost. I figure the racing tix are going to be about $270. alone.

We plan on flying into Portland Or. and heading up to Wash State on Sunday, 9/1. then its Grays Harbor, Willamette, Cottage Gr, So. Oregon and then to the Gold Cup for the last two days.

Another Question is where are the good seats to sit at all these track (best viewing spots). If I am going, I want to see the races while I am there.

Please any help from you "West Coasters" will be appreciated.

At Chico a pit pass is the best seat in the house. don't know of cheap lodging unless your camping...paul

I did this last year, awesome trip.

Not sure if you're going to Skagit, but that's my favorite place out west, really nice people and really cool track.

The Washington tracks both have a ton of seats, Skagit has a beer section where you have to sit if you want to drink beer and that fills up, but it also has another 5 thousand seats where you can find a good place to watch.

Of the remainder, Williamette was packed at 5pm last year when I went, so I'd get there early. Cottage Grove is pretty small as is Antioch, so again, get there early to get a seat higher up. Chico to me was a huge disappointment, but would probably have been more fun had I camped there.

I think the only track that will have pits in the infield is Calistoga, so you don't have the crappy Grove obstructed view nonsense anywhere else.

You're right in that it is pretty expensive out there, but the scenery is awesome and the racing is usually really good, lots of small tracks out there and the locals are pretty strong.

i did the western swing last year,did all four nights at chico ,stayed at motel 6 which was about 10mins from the track.if you book seats early you should be able to get them near tthe top, thinking about doing it this year to.

I've tent camped at the fairgrounds for many Gold Cups. I think it's $25 a night if I remember correctly. If you don't already have one you can find tents that are very reasonably priced at Wal Mart or elsewhere. If the weather is normal for early September you may have to find places with air conditioning to hang out during the day, (movies, pub, restaurants, the mall, etc.), because your tent will feel like an oven. While in Chico I would recommend you take the free tour at the Sierra Nevada brewery which is located within walking distance of the track. The tour is interesting and includes beer tasting. They have a very nice restaurant there as well.
