this is really unfortunate. I'm curious as to the circumstances. what sanctioning body was doing this night of racing? I'm surprised to see that this could happen on a 1/4 mile track, not trying to take away from the grief of this young man's passing, but can anyone shed light on what happened exactly? the only thing I've read was that it was a head on collision, not sure with what. also, any background on Tyler would be appreciated. as would information on a fund set up to help the family, if they're in need...

According to multiple twitter posts the fuel cell was ruptured and caused a nasty fire. People were also saying he hit the wall really hard.
I hate when this stuff happens. Especially restrictor plate racing in NAPCAR. You're just asking them to wreck. RIP Tyler. Hold it to the floor in heaven and may your family be strong through this horrible tragedy.

I just woke up, drove home Last night from Calistoga and logged on to hear this, It looks like he went over the coushin near the end of turn 2 attempting a pass on the outside and the right rear tire caught up with the wall and it turned the car 180 degrees with the left side of the car plowing right into the wall, and it spun like that maybe one more time, it happened so fast, it was violent, the car just stopped. At that speed I mean the car just stopped. You can see tire marks on the wall. The right side of the engine did catch fire, but went out, I know, I watched it from the infield,
he was trying to pass a car I was pitting for so I saw it, I am still freaked about it.
So sorry to hear that, God Bless you Tyler. And my prayers to your family.

DELETED INFO, someone mentioned the info was inaccurate which I got from another post (in another forumn) that I reposted here about the incident (the wrong corner was mentioned about where the crash occurred). i think most of us would like info about the crash,to make sense of what happened. Unfortunately, no explanation about the crash can bring back Tyler. I HATE DAYS LIKE THIS.

Tyler was a great guy first, and a great race driver second. I had the pleasure of racing karts with him at Cycleland and Red Bluff for years, then got to watch him as he made the transition to weekly 410 racing at SDS. Even when he was a lot younger, maybe 12 years old, he was quick to offer me advice and encouragement when he saw me breaking bad habits or trying something new on the race track. I'll never forget one time in the pits one night, I'd just come in from running a trophy dash, and Tyler came wandering over to my pit as I was climbing out. He had just finished running his dash a few minutes before I'd ran mine. "You looked good out there" he said. "Thanks, man. You looked good, too. You kept that thing right on the bottom, stayed hooked up. None of those other guys were able to keep it locked to the bottom like you were," I replied. Now keep in mind at the time this was a fresh faced 12 year old kid. He replied, completely deadpan, as confident as anyone I've ever heard speak, "Yeah? Well them other guys ain't Tyler the fuckin' Wolf." I about died laughing. He was serious as could be. And he was right. I'll miss that guy.
