David Tarter Looking Forward to KWS “Road to Dirt Cup”

The Tarter Racing camp is buzzing with excitement in anticipation of this Friday’s King of The West Sprint Car Series “Road to Dirt Cup”. Coming off a tough weekend at Marysville Raceway Park, David Tarter and his whole team are ready to run with the best in the west at The Silver Dollar Speedway.
Last week at Marysville, David Tarter put the #35 Budget Landscaping, RCM Design 360 in the 8th quialifying spot out of the 18 car field. After a tough handling car for the heat race that left him crossing the line at 5th, the crew made some crucial adjustments and he lined up for the feature.
On the first lap, however, “Tarterfish” got tangled in a 4 car pileup, kept it going but the slight contact put a hole in the brake line. That would make the rest of the feature a tough one. Carving his way up to 7th place, on lap 14 contact ensued with a passing car that sent Tarter upside down.
Coming into this weekend’s KWS Road to Dirt Cup, the Chico local is excited to move forward and get to some racing ”Had another tough week at MRP, really excited to have the KWS boys in town! You are only as good as who you race!”
This weekend’s race is slated to have many of the best in the business with Jonathan Allard, Tim Kaeding, and the return of Jimmy Sills in the Dan Simpson 4s is all going to make this weekend’s race a show not to miss.
After this weekend’s excitement, the #35 360 mount will be hangin with the Civil War Series both June15th in Chico at Silver Dollar Speedway, and June 16th in Quincy. With the following weekend bringing Tarter back to Chico for the Friday Night Point Series on June 22nd.

Hearing second hand, but I heard a tire blew up on him in the pits.
Sad sad day.
RIP David Tarter, a racer's racer. The equipment wasn't always top notch and he was on a budget, but hell if he didn't drive the wheels off of everything he drove, from Outlaw Karts to Sprint Cars.

Sorry to hear the horible news. Prayers go out to the Tarter family from us here in the pits at Ocean Speedway. RIP David.

This is such terrible news  I am soo sad for his family RIP David Tarter
Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!
Winged sprintcars = the fastest and most exciting
racecars on dirt!

Very sad. I haven't seen David in a long time but every time I met him he struck me as a kid with a tremendous amount of ambition and desire. He struck me this way both on and off the racetrack. Thoughts go out to closest friends and family at this difficult time.

MAN! Such a tragedy! David was a nice young man, and news like this is just unbelievable! I had the pleasure of seeing him gas it up during the KWS 410 race at MRP a few weeks back, this is such a tragic loss to both his family, and the NorCal racing community. Condolences to his family and friends. Godspeed David.........

I know David didn't push the issue with putting too much air in the tire because he never would. I know this because I have been one of his best friends for over 20 years and his crew chief for the last year and a half. I mounted the same tire 15 minutes before this happened but when it was let back down to the right air it had come off the bead. He broke down the bead and was re-mounting it. When the tire popped on the bead, it exploded the wheel not the tire. The aluminum of the wheel actually seperated unlike anything that anyone there had seen. And everyone's next question will be: was it cracked? That wheel had never leaked and did not leak when I inflated the tire prior to him doing it. I am begging that anyone that was not there or doesn't have all the facts please do not post things like "he had too much air in the tire" like he was being negligent or doing something wrong in any way. This was a freak accident that hopefully will never happen again and hopefully we can find out exactly what happened to make sure it doesn't. I just want to make sure everyone understands that neither negligence nor inexperience had anything to do with this accident. Please do not ask for details of how David was killed, that is no ones place to say unless his family wants to put it on here. The only thing I will say to make sure no rumors get carried away is that he didn't survive the head trauma that he suffered from the incident.

russ thank you for clearing the air to make it more clear what created this great loss for all of us,i can assure all that if there is any safety issue that we all need to know about from this tragedy russ will let us all know if and when anything is learned.
